I'm sure many people will think I'm really stretching this, but I can see a few similarities. Shingeki (Attack on Tiant) is much more serious in every aspect and it is certainly the better show with much better production qualities, overall Despite this, Kancolle and Shingeki do both have a large group of characters fighting an enemy of man kind. Both shows have a good number of characters that are not given as much screen time as they should be, but they're still good characters. Both shows have at least 1 person die before the audience really even has a chance
