Both anime deal with moral dilemmas. This lets us, the audience, think about the actions and decisions of the main characters and if what they are doing is right or wrong.
In Death note, the main character has a notebook of death which he uses to rid the world of criminals. It makes us think whether the main character is in the right or wrong. Whilst his actions would create a safer society for the innocent, criminals are being killed. Is it really OK for those in the wrong to be killed?

Sacrifice is necessary. Dororo and Death Note don't have the most similar plots in the world but on the grand scale of their stories, both deal with leaders or the one with most power dealing with the issue of sacrifice, and how it affects the morality of the one in question.
With DN being a mystery about unrealistic serial killings, Dororo is about a 'demon child' getting what is rightful his.
