Although the main storyline is completely different, I had a feeling like I watched Yagami Light adventures in a different universe... Why? First of all the character design is similar, secondly how he thinks and acts, yes an anime character that actually thinks!!! In many cases the action felt like it was a battle of minds with careful strategy rather than mindless chase/shoot... I didn't expect the anime with title like that would be so good, I was impressed and I would put it next to Death Note...
The beginning of DN and Btooom have same feeling. Main characters think they are the best and can do anything, both MC are so called ''smart'' or ''genius minds'', they live in solitude though. Killing involved.
The storyline is very different between the two, but had some similarities in them. When I was watching Btooom and the main character Ryouta, I couldn't help but think that the psychological battles and ideas were exactly like that of Light Yagami in Death Note. The art style is also very alike and both involve a person killing others.

Both anime contain a similar art style and nail-biting tension.
Btooom and Death Note are both survival anime and require the savviness of the main characters to endure the torment until the end.
-Key Differences? well Btoom is a survival game and contains a lot of action for being a survival game genre.
However, bit have the same lasting impression and will keep you involved until the bitter end

Although the plot and main characters are completely different; in Btooom! you often find the main character coming up with quick decisions to get out of tense situations. This "What is he going to do/How did he do it" feeling is similar to that of Death Note.
Both series are darker than most, and both main characters are very smart and cunning. both series deal with death even though they are not fantasy or too supernatural typed animes.
Both series also have sort of a tragic heroine who in my opinion are quite similar.
