The thing I look for in anime is not perfection, but ambition. The out-there stuff, the weird and the creative. Shows with these qualities will get higher scores from me than "well made standard" more often than not.
5: Five is the absolute average, not good, not bad. Everything I have not yet seen is automatically a five and I will increase or decrease the score while I watch something.
Below 5
4: Below average show. Not too bad, but fails to meet the standard I set.
3: Really not good. Pretty bad, actually. Not many redeeming qualities.
2: No redeeming qualities, hardly entertaining, probably has something I find hateful.
1: Offensively bad.
Above 5
6: Slightly above average. It is not hard to get a 6, I basically just need to like one little thing about the show to bump it from 5 to 6 (art style, well written dialogue, authentic characters, etc).
7: The jump from 6 to 7 is a lot bigger than from 5 to 6. Seven and above are scores for shows I consider genuinely "good".
8: Well and competently made AND manages to be up my alley.
9: Best of the best, basically perfect.(by some arbitrary definition of "perfect", of course)
10: Not just the best of the best, but ambitious and/or eccentric, too.
Why I don't rate most shorts:
I mostly look for creativity and experimental stuff in anime; as such shorts -especially short films- have an unfair advantage over most longer running series and would inflate my score disproportionately, so I seldom rate them at all. Notable comments may be in the tags section.
Hoffe dir wird Shirokuma Cafe gefallen, es brauch etwas, bis sich der ganze Zauber der Serie zeigt, aber sie ist so schön entspannend und greift so viel an japanischer Kultur auf.
Naja, am Begin von Kara no Kyoukai 2 sah man doch, bevor das Auto durch die Blutlache fuhr und das Blut am Automaten verteilte, Lio von links nach rechts über die Straße laufen. Dazu noch die Sache damit, dass er beim Schülerrat gemeint hat, dass er jetzt etwas anderes gefunden hat, was er machen wollte. Außerdem noch die Szenen am Ende der Filme mit Araya und Kirie, Asagami und Lio, welcher blutverschmiert in einer Gasse neben einer Leiche liegt. Ich sehe das jetzt irgendwie nicht so schlimm.
Und Mikiya's Fähigkeit dank seines Origins (von wegen Sachen finden usw.) wurde doch damit angedeutet, dass er Touko's Büro gefunden hat, welches durch einen Bannkreis geschützt wurde und eigentlich nicht gefunden werden kann - hochrangige Magier mal ausgeschlossen.
Aber ja, ich finde auch, dass das Writing teilweise echt random war. Ist im Nasuverse wohl gang und gäbe und ich kann absolut nachvollziehen, warum es einem nicht gefallen kann. Trotzdem fasziniert mich das Ganze doch sehr. Die Ideologien, die Konzepte, die Lore, die Charaktere. Hat für mich alles einen ganz eigenen Charme, den ich sonst nirgends im Bereich Anime kenne.
Anschließend möchte ich noch ein Lob für euren relativ tollen YouTube-Channel da lassen. Ich war echt überrascht, über solch einen deutschsprachigen Channel zu stolpern.
Hi! You are most welcome. I get the sense that the people producing this series are
extremely serious about getting all of the technical details correct. Anime is a national
treasure in Japan, and this is probably their one-and-only chance to accurately document
it in dramatic form. Every other anime studio is going to be watching this series very
closely, and I am sure they will cheerfully point out anything that was not quite right.
On the other hand, there is lots of unrealistic stuff that is there for dramatic purposes.
However, I have never worked in that industry, so I can't be certain that the animation
production assistants don't drift race in Initial D style.
I have two personal friends who have worked in the animation industry, so next time
I see them I'll ask them if they can drift.
