Ify bro. The anime for Tokyo Ghoul deserves better. I haven’t even read the manga yet and I hated this adaptation. Just go read the manga. It’s way better that this shit show of an anime.

Haven’t watched it im awhile so I might be wrong but Mutsuki was happen to bring that side of him because he wanted to kill Kaneki to bring back Haise. He thought him spiraling out would bring him back and was jealous that Kaneki had moved on with Touka and forgot all his old squad while being Haise.

I feel you. I watched the animes first then watched the manga and yeah the manga is going to be a way better experience because it manages everything better. The animes put together like a burn victim

The second season is different from the manga, as are parts of the first season and there is a lot of stuff that’s left out from anime only it’s almost impossible to fully follow the story after root a and jump into :re because re gets the story back on track but is supper rushed and root a does not follow the manga so it’s kind of like two different shows at that point

Main answer is to read the manga but since you’re almost done with the anime I’ll try to explain
Ok so the anime changed the scene where Kaneki transforms into the dragon but if I recall correctly he still eats the ogai (it was explained at some point that they’re made from Rize and their purpose was to be consumed by Kaneki).It’s all part of Furutas plan and basically Mutsuki by being an annoying simp (he’s somehow even worse in the manga) created the conditions for Kaneki to be desperate enough to need to feed. This is the short explanation. Rather hard to notice in the anime but it will all make sense once you read the manga since, as I said, this event plays out completely differently and there are a lot more shit going on
