Background

The short stories collected in Mothers were previously self-published by the author over the course of 15 years. In August 2023, Glacier Bay Books, an indie manga publisher based in North America, first compiled and published these stories in English to critical acclaim. This led to the publication of a Japanese edition of Mothers on June 12, 2024. It is Umi Kusahara’s first collection of short stories in either language.

The English edition is nominated in the “Best New Manga” category at the first annual American Manga Awards (2024).
