Generally I don't like dubs. I know some dubs are executed very nicely but those happenings are very rare and most TV Stations here won't hire many people with those talents.
Also, I think that the dubbed anime is not being presented in the original way that the writers, seiyuus, etc. worked hard on and that kinda ruins it for me. Also, a lot of the voice actors in Hero are very whiny and over-dramatic and it's annoying.
Subtitles at least preserve most of the original program and if there are some deep cultural words and phrases that can't be translated there are always the very useful subber's notes that are present in a lot of subbed anime.
So, to answer the poll, "No." is my answer.
^^ :D .-.

Subbed, no doubt, is the best choice for many people because, hey, that's the original! The problem is that you need to move your eyes very fast so that you can fully comprehend WTF are the characters saying. And it's not like everybody watches anime, you know.

The problem with the dubs is that, you guessed it, many dubbers and scriptwriters today are not even anime fans, so how can the viewers expect them to deliver the EXACT SAME feeling they had when watching subs? Not to mention the glaring cultural and language differences between Japan and the Philippines.

Nonetheless, maganda pa ring panimula sa anime ang dubs especially sa mga never pang nakpanood ng anime before. By the time they become so absorbed to anime and they have stumbled across an original, 90% of the time they will switch to subs because it's the original, and therefore, is definitely better.

My vote: Subs. The only way dubs can prosper is that the TV networks hold audition for THE ANIME FANS THEMSELVES, since they are the only ones who can deliver the anime feel in THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY. They can just reserve their own people for Chino/Korea-Novelas, KUNG SAAN SILA MAS NABABAGAY.

Side-note: 90's dubs is always the best for me. I don't know, but perhaps our quality dubbers are now getting old.

Well said. Kung wala namang interes sa anime 'yung mga voice actors, what's the point of acquiring a license to broadcast the anime here in the first place? Kung nasa puso talaga nila ang trabaho, they would do the dubbing as they would dub a Western movie or Asianovela, for that matter. That way, hindi masabing 'useless' ang mga otaku na katulad natin, being ostracized and looked down upon by the judgmental and narrow-minded society! Bottom line: even undergraduate otakus like me, hindi mawawalan ng career opportunity!

Parang hindi ko ma-imagine yung phrase ng "When one person is cursed, two graves are dug" sa tagalog version. Ewan ko ba, basta di ko ma-imagine talaga yung tagalized version ngayon. -_-

True...

It's not like I hate it, it's just I don't really like it.

If I recall correctly, TV5 aired anime dubs (like SnS) pretty much ruined the interactions of characters. I mean, it became unpredictable since the characters' expressions and Fil. Dubs didn't match at all.

In Hero TV, some of it were preferably good. But I don't like what they air, cuz most of it were old ('80s or 90's).

Well, anime nowadays seem to be increasingly difficult to dub, what with the over-the-top expressions and all that.

Heto ang naisip ko: Kaya siguro most of us here are saying that Filipino dubs suck, is maybe because of our mindset itself: na walang makakatalo sa mga Hapon when it comes to voice acting! In a sense, it's like conceding to them even before the battle has started! 'Kung kaya nila, kaya natin!' is what my dad always says sa mga ganitong klaseng usapin... As much as I hate to be this blunt, let's face the reality...

(Wondering why this opinion from me? Baka lang siguro sa impluwensiya ng ate ko, who has a degree in Sociology...)

XD

I fully respect everyone's sentiments about this issue. Kung sa bagay, it's easier said than done na baguhin ang mindset ng bawat isa sa atin regarding Pinoy dubbing.

Bottom line, however, is this: Gusto natin ng pagbabago? Let's start with our own selves...

hindi naman. marami rin kasing mga Pilipino hirap makaintindi ng english or magbasa (i'm referring to subs) lalo na sa mga bata na may oras at talagang naeenjoy sa edad nila ang panonood ng anime, especially shounen shows. para sa kanila yun, and i think, them dubbers are just doing their job so let's not get too hot on them. ;))

well i do agree sa decline ng dubbing quality nowadays. para saan pa't umuunlad ang technology, pero hindi naman tayo makasabay sa paggamit ng advanced techniques sa dubbing at sound quality. also, tingin ko panahon na para sa bagong henerasyon ng pinoy dubbers. sawang sawa nako sa boses ni neji (from naruto) sa bawat dubbed anime na napapanuod ko. lol. i think they should choose people who really have that feel in speaking "the anime way" as dubbers at hindi kung sinong basta experienced lang sa voice-overs. amirite?

btw i'm SUB>DUB :D

Well said. It's HIGH TIME na kailangang sumabay sa agos ang Filipino dubbing and voice acting...

And another bit of opinion from me: Great actors don't always equate to good voice actors... I haven't watched the likes of the most recent Pinoy animated movies, pero hindi matanggal sa isip ko 'yung feeling of skepticism na 'nagawa ba ng mga actor/actress 'yung ibinigay na roles nila sa mga nagdaang animated films na sariling atin?'...
