When you first watch the episodes you will find that UTS an okay anime but then the anime will have its moment when you won't stop laughing unless your family member slaps you to shut up .
So i suggest keep on watching and you will find out that this anime has nothing like filler episodes because its story line is like that and also when it gets serious arcs it is better than most of the top animes (not including the best one ) .But if you are watching the 7th season ,it has been so serious that u won't believe its gintama

Just keep going with watching it. Don't expect it will get better (but it will though) because expectations will always ruin your enjoyment. By the time you reach the Neo Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Cannon episode, Gintama would've distinguished itself as the supreme king of comedy anime and would've won your heart.

There are strings of episodes (arcs) that do get serious and actually progress the plot like what's going on right now. However, you should not skip between seasons, you've gotta watch it in order.

Trust me, Gintama doesn't dominate spots on the top 10 for no reason(despite the comparatively smaller amount of select fans watching who rate it highly).
“Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth. But the world isn't perfect, and the law is incomplete..." -Alphonse Elric

"Then and now, what I protect has never changed!" -Sakata Gintoki

I'll take anything like The Pet Girl of Sakurasou. Anything as good as that.

the reason people like one piece, but gintama is better in all aspects; core story line, comedy, bizzare people and settings, art-style, impactful moments, backgrounds and flashbacks, all cast gets a chance to shine and finally the bad ass serious face.

Mass appeal

It combines action, comedy, historical and sci-fi consistently and has arcs specialising in romance, tragedy and drama. A big cast also gives you more of an opportunity to find a character you like.
