As we work towards maintaining a list of authentic users who have completed 5,000 anime entries, there are the categories of criteria we will determine an account ineligible. Apart from obvious offenders, all users should still be reviewed by our jury panel to determine their eligibility.

    Alternate Accounts
  • One account per user. If a user is known to have two accounts which exceed 5,000 completed anime entries, they will need to tell us which is their main account.

    Bot/Test Accounts
  • Self-explanatory.

    Private Accounts
  • Users must have their anime list details viewable to be inspected by the committee. If you wish to maintain a private list, you must have a few members added and set the list to visible by friends for them to look at the contents.

    Inauthentic List
    Inauthentic Stat Boosting
  • Sort a user's list by series with the most episodes e.g. https://myanimelist.net/animelist/Kwanthemaster?status=2&order=12&order2=0
Note: Watching a lot of long series does not necessarily mean anything, but it is worth looking out for long Chinese kids series or old Japanese series few to no episodes available:
    Some common offenders include:
    https://myanimelist.net/anime/9947/Lan_Mao
    https://myanimelist.net/anime/12393/Oyako_Club
    https://myanimelist.net/anime/23349/Kirin_Monoshiri_Yakata
    https://myanimelist.net/anime/8213/Hokahoka_Kazoku
    https://myanimelist.net/anime/10241/Sekai_Monoshiri_Ryoko
Additionally, you can check how many times a person has marked a long entry rewatched, by clicking on "More".

Of course, it is possible to have legitimately seen multiple long entries, but when we see the common offenders, it is a potential indication that the account is full of many other entries a user hasn't seen.

    Impossible Math
  • Watching more hours of anime than there is time in a day. This could be an indicator of gradually filling a list with things a person hasn't seen, viewing things sped up, or marking things complete without having seen all of the episodes. Some people choose to not track episodes until they have completed a series or may have been away for a few weeks/months, but if this is repeated multiple days in a row, it is reasonably suspicious.

  • Use the Wayback Machine to see how many days of anime a person has completed between two dates. Note that there is a difference between theoretical and practical possibility. At a bare minimum, people need time to eat and sleep, so just because there are 365 days in a year, doesn’t mean it is realistic for someone to have seen that much in a year.

  • Compare a user's age (if listed) and join date with the amount of days they have completed. Do keep in mind that it is possible that a user migrated from another website or is creating an anime list for the first time.

    Excessive Flagged Entries
    Lost Media
  • Sort by oldest year and look for any lost media (these entries often have no cover). If the user does not have the airing dates on their list, append "&order=-14" in the URL, e.g. https://myanimelist.net/animelist/Kwanthemaster?status=2&order=-14
We are looking for intentionally marking things you have not seen, not honestly mistaking with another entry.

    Excessive Entries Inaccessible Online
  • Compare with Kwanthemaster's dropped list. Obviously there will be things I do not have a source for which people could see (e.g. purchasing a physical copy, previously online but not archived, viewed at a festival, ect.), but if there is a large number of entries that conflict, it could be an indication they have not seen them.

    Excessive Abnormal Behavior
  • Detailed below.

Normal vs. Abnormal:
It should go without saying that we are not expecting user's to have perfect lists. It is very unlikely anyone with a large list has seen every second of every single episode, at normal playback, with 100% percent of their attention. What we are trying to distinguish is normal user behavior vs. intentionally disingenuous or bizarre behavior.

Normal:
  • Not watching the OP/ED every episode or credits to completion.
  • Skipping or skimming through a few episodes of filler.
  • Occasionally marking short versions of sources complete.
  • Occasionally using x2 speed to get through a particularly slow section of a series.
  • A small number of mistakes (watching something which was mislabeled as something else or has the same name).
  • Backfilling entries you have seen over the past number of days/weeks.

Abnormal:
  • Marking entries complete having seen few or no episodes from it.
  • Marking entries complete after only seeing the preview.
  • Always watching anime at ridiculous playback speeds (x4, x6, ect.)
  • Viewing two series simultaneously on different monitors.
  • Often marking entries complete which do not have sources (e.g. marking lost media complete because it's impossible to view).
