Why the hammer???

In Ch.1 it shows the survival knife.
In Ch.6 we get the description...

Magical Survival Knife
- There's nothing this knife can't cut! A knife that slices through anything, it's your biggest friend when survivaling.
- It can extend to 2 meters in size whenever you want.
- The user doesn't feel any weight from it.
In Ch.9 he accidentally cuts a massive stone block in half leaving a mirror finish.

Why the hell is he using a stupidly large hammer to kill enemies when he can basically have an unstoppably sharp sword that cuts through anything? Enemies would die either way, but the aftermath of smashing is so much messier than slicing. Just imagine opening a watermelon with a sledge hammer vs a sword.
