| I've had those original three Synch-Point DVD's for YEARS and it wasn't till last night where I realized, there's Director's Commentary in the special features. I was honestly dumbfounded to say the least, cause I've never even looked there. Cause I've always had this idea in my head that... what's there to watch in the special features? Well, turns out I was wrong. Anyways, it features the director, Kazuya Tsurumaki, and afew interviewers as they go over each episode. And... I've always thought I understood Fooly Cooly. I thought I figured out every subtle 'message' or piece of subtext that this show had to offer, till I listened to the commentaries. Like the spicy curry dinner scene in episode three, that was supposed to be a reflection to show how different Naota and Haruko are with eachother, and how their intrests/likes always seem to clash with one another. And in episode four, where Mamimi got sad cause Naota 'swung' the bat. I always figured that she was slightly depressed cause she honestly wanted the town destroyed, just kinda wrote it off as a sign of teenage rebellion. Turns out, Mamimi is depressed cause Naota 'swung' the bat. Because before hand, Naota never swung the bat, cause he was always afraid of knowing his limitations. He could swing the bat, get a home-run, or he could strike out. And beforehand, Mamimi was always the controlling one in the relationship, she loved to manipulate him for her own needs. So when he 'swung' the bat at the end of the episode, that was Naota standing up and taking control of himself and his actions. Which in return, bummed out Mamimi. WHAT? Is there some EVA Director's Commentary I'm missing now?! |
