Oh man, I've been getting my manga from those two exact same shops for years now. (Live around Sunset Way)

As for anime, well, I summon it using voodoo magic ^_^

Well, I know many SG manga lovers are Chinese, so they can pretty much get it anywhere. For me, I guess I'm like Azurel, English only! I get mine at the same place (which is also why my manga read list is pathetic -_-)

Anime wise, I get it at... Crunchyroll. End of story. I'm not gonna spend my money on ODEX crap which gives sub standard quality DVDs and sub standard subbings.

Oh, and for anime-related stuff (models, OSTs), some of you might like to try Sunshine Plaza, which is at Bencoolen Road. That place has TONS of anime stuff. Cups, T-shirts, posters, you name it. Try that place out guys!

...the rest of my anime and manga...is, i'm afraid, also summoned by powerful voodoo magic! >:D

I don't know. I always purchase my manga from Comics Connection, sometimes from Kinokuniya. And they are all either Chuangyi Chinese, or other Taiwanese publisher. I prefer English material, but I don't buy them since they often cost much more than their Chinese counterparts.

For anime, I... fly to Japan back & forth to watch them!!

Okay honestly; Crunchyroll, and if need a change of 'environment', try Veoh, or Tudou (Chinese). All video streaming sites.

Halberdier's suggestion of Sunshine Plaza also not bad. Used to be my favourite haunt for those rarer-to-find anime merchandise, though I seldom visit the place now.

I purchase my comics at Comics Connection, Kinokuniya, M.A.G.E, or any other comic shops in Singapore, just to get the latest book as quickly as possible...
o(>_<o)

For anime, just like what Dark_Koji has said, i watch them at mostly at Crunchyroll and Veoh... Didn't use much of Tudou for anime than for dramas.... ^^ I only collect VCDs and DVDs of my favorite anime, for i am not rich, and the quality is not as good as watching it "Live" on television...

For manga,
KINO~~~ (the one at orchard)
Comics Connection... Popular... and any comic shop i happen to walk past... XD

As for anime...
Well, i do buy... except that they are not the ones with "ODEX" labeled on them... got them from some video shop in Rivervale Mall before the stupid saga... i supposed they have stopped selling it coz of that, and i have not bought any anime since then...

Though i've gotta say tat Kino's stuff are kinda expensive and since i don't live around that area i don't really buy stuff frequently from them, but once i'm around that area, i'd be sure to pop by that place to take a look at their books... i'm a huge fan of reading and they have the latest collection of books from manga to english novels... plus... their membership cards give discounts to normal ChuangYi comics as well, not like the others which is like limited to figurines or TW comics...

XD
It's the same with me! Be it manga or anime, i hate waiting... =x

I even resort to reading the Chinese translated novels (online lolz) for those anime which are adapted from novels. Really kills the eyes trying to read not only SMALL but PACKED and ridiculously long chinese translated foreign names...

I'm buying the manga for the reason that i love reading and collecting the books that i love to read... the novels are a tad too expensive, so i don't really buy them.

I always pass by it if it's the same one I go to 2 years ago. It's the mrt station itself. Get down and walk straight past the top-up station. The one with people in it that is. It sells a small variety of more 'popular' comics in Singapore. Namely Bleach, Naruto, Honey and Clover, GetBackers, NaNa, plus the newest release every tuesday is stocked there too.

hmm... i don't really travel around SG that much, but i know that there are plenty of comic shops around the place i stay at...

There are a few shops in Katong area which sells and rent manga...

There's one which i would recommend... but it only deals with ALL(taiwan, malaysia, hongkong, china, singapore) chinese manga and whatever english manga chuangyi sells. Plus it has a small collection of chinese novels.
Its located near Bedok interchange, juz above the Bedok outlet of comics connection. Note that it's on level 2 and they don't put signs to advertise besides pasting notices on their windows... but then again, it's HUGE.
Although i've been there for quite a while, i never did got to know the shop name... XD

So far, from what i've seen, it got almost all the chinese manga collection up till date. I was hanging out at that place before i got acquainted with my laptop and the internet lolz...

Hmm.. I guess the bookstores at the East side is news to me since I don't venture that. Well, if you guys know of anywhere else just drop a msg. =P

Actually, I don't buy dvds since it's all streaming for me. My main source are usually Crunchyroll and Veoh.

But when I'm desperate enough, I try to scavenge at Youtube, DailyMotion, Stage6.

But I do KNOW of some Online Anime Archives like

Import Japanese originals. And I'm saddened by how subscribing to a Japanese magazine and having it sent to your doorstep is cheaper than buying it at Kinokuniya ("Zetsubou shita!").

i might do that too...except that i can't read jap in all its forms *aahh filled with even more despair*. :( even though i want to learn eventually.

but that's quite a surprising bit of info in any case...i guess pri school kids over there could buy a Jump! with their pocket money but it's definitely not the case here.

I = Katze (Ai No Kusabi)L (Death Note), Ryuichi Sakuma (Gravitation), Kyoya Ootori (Ouran High School Host Club), Hisoka (Yami No Matsuei).

Yep, so far I've only bought Chuang Yi but I think the price is abt the same for other publishers.

Btw, I finally went in Sunshine Plaza but only got to stay for a while. I saw 2 manga stores there and there were tons and tons and tons of english manga. heavenly~ X) I didn't get to ask the price though coz I was late in meeting my fren.

@snowfish sunshine plaza is at bugis, near the old NAFA building, a few blocks from the National Library.

I buy volumes in Japanese only because I believe in preserving the author's uhh.. feelings (?) which may be lost in translation. Picked up Japanese a while back just for that. Still have a little trouble with the seinen manga without furigana though. Need some help from a dictionary.

Never walked there before.. =X

Comparing with other publishers, the English Manga pricing at Kino & the bugis comic shop is quite a big difference~
Chuang Yi's english is around $8, imported titles like Tokyopop around $20, and some like SevenSeas that i bought is around $25 o_o

If only i can read Japanese, i would buy those Japanese ones.. around $10 a book only -.-

$10 a book is the overpriced Kinokuniya pricing.
The actual price printed on the back of the book cover is usually around 400 yen, which is around $5.
that's why I don't buy from them, blardy scams.
it's cheaper to subscribe to a Japanese magazine and have them deliver to your doorstep than buying at Kino.

And yeah the Kino prices are horrible. Compared to the retail price on the covers, they charge quite an exorbitant amount. Especially their illustration books.

I get my manga from Comics Connection/Kinokuniya. Mostly get from Taiwanese publishers if Chuangyi is slow. And hell they sure are ^^

For my anime, I don't use voodoo magic! It's too.. primitive. You know that uncle who sells ice-cream on his motorbike? Tell him this "ODEX sucks.".

He'll open a secret compartment in his ice-cream box that contains a legion of fresh anime from Japan. For free. And you'll never see uncles selling icecream on a motorbike in the same light anymore ;D. (YHBT)
