The first volume of manga (which is orgin story) gets adapted into 24 min 1 episode in crybaby while in the ova it took 50 mins.

You can see that the anime is very rushed. They removed heavy anti-war theme from manga and add some original violent stuff. Sometimes it came out of nowhere and felt unnatural. The character personalities are also different as well.

You can watch the anime if you're not comfortable with manga. But for ne the surprises, plot twists, ending felt more real in manga.
