| "We weren't very close." Said Lucas. "It was hardest on Adam.'' |
| "His mother was really the only one who spent any time with him. I used to wonder what it was Joshua was always so busy with, but I guess it was all his vampire combat business." |
| "He's a weird guy. I feel sorry for Adam." |
| Adam was slightly surprised to find that he could clearly hear every word Lucas and Evangeline were exchanging about is mother. |
| Adam came back inside, deciding against mentioning that he had heard them and instead sitting down in a chair across from the couch. "You okay?" Asked Lucas. "Fine." Adam replied dully. |
| "What?" Adam asked. He propped his head in his hand and his elbow on the arm of the chair. From here his nails were visible, but the black was not easily seen if you were not looking for it. |
| "Right, whatever." |
| "Did, uh, did Alistair say where he was going last night?" Lucas asked. |
| "Yeah, well the longer that bastard's gone the better." Adam muttered. Lucas raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure you're okay Adam?" |
| "Well I dunno; my dad killed me, I'm not actually dead, and I'm now living under the same roof as the person I've been told throughout my entire life could never be trusted." |
| "It could be worse." Said Lucas. "Oh? How, exactly?" "You could actually be dead." |
| "So, you've already figured he's not a vampire?" "Not that it was that hard." |
| "Well at the moment we think he could possibly be....a demon." "You two use 'he' like I'm not even here." Adam said, sounding slightly irritated. |
| "Alistair hates demons with a fiery burning passion." |
| "Well thanks." Said Adam. "No can we please go out so I can get something to eat?" |
| "Yeah, yeah sure. Whatever." Said Lucas. "Let's go." He and Adam stood up. "We won't be too long. If Alistair asks, we just went out for a walk or something. I dunno. Think of something." |
| Outside, Lucas stopped for a moment on the porch. "What's your problem this morning?" He asked Adam. "What do you mean?" "You;re acting....weird." |
| "Did you act weird after you died?" Adam inquired. "Kay, don't keep pulling that card. Seriously, you're doing an even weirder kind of weird than just being depressed. Snarky? Come on, that was never your thing. What's going on?" "I dunno. I don't exactly have a 'being a demon for beginners' handbook." "See, there you go again." Said Lucas. |
| "This must have something to do with all of it, you know? Random mood changes or something." Lucas reasoned. "Yeah, maybe. Sorry." "Eh, whatever. I'm more concerned for you than me." |
| "Anyway come on, let's get you something to eat before you bite someone's head off." Lucas told him. "Says you." Adam joked. Lucas smiled slightly and the two headed down the steps and into the city. |
| Adam and Lucas returned a little while later. "Thank god it turned overcast." Said Lucas. "I would have looked ridiculous trying to dodge sunlight in a public area." "I've seen vampires with no trouble being out in the daylight before. Why should you be any different?" Adam wondered. "Eh, long story; I'll tell you another time." |
| Adam and Lucas reentered the house. |
| "Yeah. What's the matter? Miss us?" Lucas joked. |
| "Pfft, now I see why Alistair likes you." |
| "Whatever you want it to mean." Lucas replied, sitting down and pulling out his sketchbook. Adam sat down as well, staring out the window. Ever so slightly, the black colouring on his nails had become larger. |
