Episode 1 To start things out, Jinta begins living together with Shirayuki and Suzune to form a family as Jinta is tasked with protecting Kadono Village despite being a stranger and is entrusted with a sword that was used to slay the demons. Things are quite peaceful, but that pease is about to come to an end as Shirayuki is being targeted for being the next Itsukihime, and is set to marry Kiyomasa in order to become a mother before the demons come for her. And right on cue, the demons arrive. It turns out that Jinta and Suzune are both demons, and Suzune's demonic instincts awaken that has her killing Shirayuki and the villagers. That has Jinta going all-out to put a stop to Suzune, but she gets away thanks to the intervention of a certain demon lady. After that, Jinta goes out on a soul-searching journey as he can't believe that his sister betrayed him. As a parting gift, Jinta is given the Yarai sword now that the Itsukihime is no more. An interesting start there as reality sure hit Jinta hard there, and now he is out to make sense of everything that happened and find answers as to what the right thing to do is. |

Interesting Kimetsu no Yaiba, literally translates to "Blade of Demon Destruction" and the Japanese title of this show has nothing to do with swords. |

Well, the post credits scene seems to indicate this 50 minutes first episode was just a prologue, and that it's likely the rest of the show will take place in present day. However, I found this episode to be a little lacking in the world building department. How did Suzune end up with Jinta in the first place. Was she the result of a human and demon mating, or with Jinta becoming a demon as well, is the show indicating that demons were all once human? What was so special about Kadano village? If this was a village dedicated to fighting demons, why did everyone seem to be okay with Suzune in their village not aging at all, seems clear they likely knew she was a demon. Seems the entire Miko protecting the village thing fell apart pretty hard to, so they kind of just wasted their lives. They didn't really show what the demon woman did with the the Chief's son either. I also didn't understand the scene after Jinta was sitting on the ground after sparing with Motoharu, and when Suzune got up and greeted him, he averted his eyes as if he was afraid of something. |

A fairly good start in most aspect: production value, story pacing, character-filled, etc. Although, I'm personally left wanting when it comes to portrayal of character emotions. Moments that should've been filled with raged and agony were quite lacking at that. I'm not looking for a 'Subaru' level of mind breaking trauma but, the MC definitely felt much more collected than he should've been. No discipline and training could've prepared him for the very chaotic situation he witnessed and went through-- that's his long-cherished childhood sweetheart, and sister that she saved and took care of for years. Heck, that moment when the Chief confessed to Jinta that the consummation plan he proposed was just his way to play wingman to his son got ME pissed off. The Chief's son himself, who at first seemed like an A-hole, was bothered by it. Shirayuki's love and concern for the village was used against her simply for matchmaking purposes. And that single selfish, irresponsible, and non-demon related act by the Chief all led to a series of catastrophic events. And how did the MC react? Calmly and silently forgiving in an instant. O_o But disregarding all the character flaws, it was a pretty good 1hr episode. I was glued to the end and was fully invested (until the aforementioned bulshizzery). :P If this entire episode was just a prologue, then I could just easily ignore my nitpicks and look forward to the future story events-- it would make for an easy backstory-telling, which I assume we'll see so much more of; They skipped 170 years, FFS. Also... Hilcrhyme performed the ED??? Haven't heard much from them since "Shunkashuto" (2010s, I guess). |

That was kind of a letdown for me because I just don't really give a crap about what happens to these people. Kind of like how I couldn't feel much sympathy for the MC's old life in Evil Galactic Lord, only even more so in this one. I feel the same way as the chief's son, those two are a couple of nutjobs. The previous sentinel and princess were a couple without him having to be the village chief, but this time it's somehow a big deal? And it was pretty obvious the chief was pressuring her and yet our boy sits there with his thumb up his ass cheering it all on while it they go rushing to jump off a cliff. I was really, really, hoping that they would switch things up and the chief's son would be the one we end up following while he tries to put an end to the brother and sister and prevent the coming cataclysm. To me that would be a much more interesting story. Unfortunately we're now locked in to following this stick-up-his-ass MC who I already seriously dislike. On top of that I have a feeling this story is locked in on a trajectory that will hold no surprises and where everything will be telegraphed from a mile away. |

zkeleton said: Unfortunately we're now locked in to following this stick-up-his-ass MC who I already seriously dislike. Not to mention, it feels like both of them flipped their switch too fast. Suzune just goes full nutjob and kills Shirayuki at the drop of a hat, and it takes all of 30 seconds for her to decide that the brother she has dedicated her life to for over 15 years is no longer worth caring about, and tries to kill him, and the brother who basically raised her for 10+ years, it took all of 10 seconds for him to be like "nope, not going to try to reason with you, just gonna kill you". Like I said in my first post, the world and character building were lacking for what seemed to be an extended length episode meant specifically to set the background. |

Episode 2 Now that the prologue has been completed in one double-length episode, Jinya, as he now goes by, heads to Sugaya where he meets the clerk Zenji and his adoptive daughter Natsu. And then a demon claiming to Natsu's mother appears to give the impression that Natsu is a demon taking the appearance of a human like with Suzune. But Natsu is a human and her parents are dead. As for that demonic monstrosity, that is nothing more than the manifestation of her emotions, and as proof of that the demon just disappeared is a streak of light meaning that it can come back. To defeat it for good, that's up to Natsu to decide, and after explaining the truth, Natsu wants it dead, and that's exactly what Jinya does. This show has the feel of Blade of the Immortal, but is far less violent and is more focused on storytelling seeing that Jinya has been quite lost in thought. |

HOOfan_1 said: it's likely the rest of the show will take place in present day. Well, I guess that isn't true.... I getting the feeling about half way through this episode that the show may end up becoming a "monster of the week" show until it was revealed that the demon was Jinta's mother and the employer was his father. I'm not exactly sure what the "moral" of this episode was. Was this to point out that Jinta's father isn't really a bad person, and perhaps with the revelation that Suzune can become a murderous demon at the flip of a switch last week that the father was right to abuse her? Well, let's see what next episode brings, because I am not exactly completely on board still. |

I quite like this episode. The twist wasn't really shocking but at least it wasn't predictable.. aside from the quick flashback kind of spoiling it, showing the father falling to his knees outside of their house. I wouldn't dare say that it tried to fix the issues of the first episode but, since it tackled the topic of "forgiveness", especially considering that it was their OG father that's involved, I guess it's related to the 1st episode's events where he was disappointingly so quick to move on from what just transpired. Although, if the point of it was that he should've tried to see his father's point of view at the time-- having a half demon daughter when his wife was killed by a demon, I don't think that point would work quite well since his father was very brutal towards her. Regardless of their father's reasoning, them escaping him at that time was a very reasonable reaction. But now that I think about it, if Jinya's sister is a half-demon, does that mean that she has a different father/parent who is a demon? Was she a result of a demon taking advantage of their mother? I doubt the mother is the one who is originally a demon since Jinya would've been half-demon as well, not just his sister. (Unless I'm missing some info.) I guess this episode's timeline is just a few years after the 1st one since his father is still alive. I have a feeling it will take a while before we get to present day, presumably, when he starts battling his sister, likely with some demon faction with her. |

Episode 3 Next stop along Jinya's soul-searching journey takes him to a man who is another demon trying to live in harmony with the humans in Mosuke. While he's a demon, he's done a great job in hiding that fact to the point that he fell in love. Sadly, that wouldn't last as his wife was killed by another demon, and Mosuke has been devoting his life to avenging her. And now having stumbled across somebody who can carry it out that he's asking Jinya to do just that, and agreeing to do so after sharing some cheap booze. Mosuke has been quite hard on himself, but that begs the question about what he will do after he avenges his wife as he needs to realize that he needs to think about that as well. |

@HOOfan_1 well, pretty far off, but at the same time, kind of close, being that it was a woman, and Mosuke's wife. The weird thing here, is they made it sound like the slasher was at work before Mosuke's wife was assaulted, making Mosuke suspect the slasher. |

Episode 4 Mosuke tried to take on the slasher that killed his wife, but was no match for it. It's no wonder why that demon terrorized the place for so long as it would kill, devour, and use its ability to flee. To fulfill Mosuke's dying wish, Jinya absorbs his powers, and then takes on the slasher himself where he overwhelms it, and then sees that it has devoured Hatsu's memories as well. And he's not quite done yet as there were a couple of other guys who made his life a living hell, and he assassinates them to complete the vengeance. This goes to show it's not easy being a demon, but it is possible for them to find happiness. |

Episode 5 For a change of pace, here is an episode without any demons to slay as this time Jinya is helping somebody find his lost brother. Naotsugu's brother Sadanaga went missing, and he's been looking for him. But apparently nobody has any memories of him, and something is definitely up about that. It will be interesting to see what to make of this as there's no question that something just isn't normal. It's just setup for something big to go down. |

Well obviously not all demons are evil, we've seen that multiple times now. Are all demons former humans? What is the motive of the demons who are evil and are banding together? |

Episode 6 It turns out that Jinya didn't have to look far to find Sadanaga as he is living a completely different life, free of his former family's influence and living the life he wants even if it is not exactly a glorious one. Sadanaga adopted Ofuu as his daughter after becoming an orphan and at some point turning into a demon. So with that, the mystery has been solved, although given Jinya's experience with Suzune that there's quite a bit of concern that Ofuu might go on a rampage. But in any case, the mystery has wrapped up, and one where no demons needed to be slain. |

It feels like they are trying their hardest to keep from advancing the main plot. That didn't even really have anything to do with demons. I assume the guy who hired him and was drinking sake with him is his biological father |

Episode 7 And another episode with no demon slaying as Jinya is asked to solve a mystery involving an apparently cursed Ukiyo-e Kudanzaka painting. But after digging around and stuff, Jinya quickly figures out that it is just an ordinary piece of art and there's nothing supernatural or malicious about them, and that something else is to blame. Not much happens here as once the truth comes out about the apparent hex, he just moves on as if nothing's wrong. |

Just started this, it was OK,plot didn't really make sense. People have pointed out most of the plot holes. One I would like to add though is Shirayuki had treated Suzune like her real sister showing her nothing but love ber entire life and that counted for nothing to Suzune? I get she loved her brother but how did she have no sisterly love for Shirayuki. This just goes back to Freiren handling demons better than any other show, just kill them on sight, they have no concept of family. Few other things that bothered me, the fight with the big demon was a bit janky. Your sword can't stop halfway like it did when cutting off his arm. Katanas slice, one quick continuous motion. It's not a serated blade where you can saw through something. Also dude cut that arm off, it can't be good. Hated the black mist when his sister became an adult, either show her naked or put some clothes on her, that was lame. Hopefully it gets better, because that was an overall shaky start. Didn't get ep 2, I guess it was to give him closure with his family, but was he admitting his dad was right? Was this to exonerate him and show he was justified for treating his sister like that? Also was it his feelings that created his mom/demon his his stepsister's demon was already gone. |

I didn't really get this one, how did she get a demon body? And as she was drowning why did she want a new body? And why didn't she recognize Mosuke? hmmm...I wonder if the prostitute who hired him and then he paid for information was scouting him out for the spirit medium guy. Also, since that hair pin apparently gave his step-sister his biological half-sister's personality, does that mean the spirit medium guy exorcised her? Also, here we are 8 episodes in and not even a hint of the modern day setting we saw at the end of the first episode. |

@zkeleton If I remember correctly, Natsu was adopted by his dad when her parents died...I don't remember exactly how they died. So I guess adopted sister would be the correct term, not step-sister |

Episode 8 And now, a hairpin is causing trouble as Natsu got it from somebody claiming to be Akitsu, a legendary craftsman who is supposed to be dead. That hairpin that Natsu got puts her into a trance and makes her think that Jinya is her brother. As it turns out, the guy's full name is actually Somegoro Akitsu III, so he did learn after the legendary craftsman, but how his works got to be this way remains to be seen. |

Okay, so that wasn't Suzune's personality at all, just the hairpin reacting to his head scratcher...in which case it doesn't really seem like it had anything to do with the main story, and they're still doing mystery of the week instead of progressing the main story. So, was the prostitute supposed to be connected to the hairpin though? Since the Cuckoo is now following her around? Then we get another glimpse of "modern day". Are we going to stay there or jump back 260 years again? This plot is just all over the place. |

Episode 5-8: Gotta say- disregarding the awkward prologue- this Anime has been good with story-telling so far. Episode 6 is my favorite so far; The identity of the 'Older Brother' became quite apparent when they kept showing how he looked and acted, but the overall delivery of the reveal was quite sweet and heart-warming. Episode 7 was also quite touching. I did not expect a sudden backstory relating to Jinya, much less for it to be just a casual, but very lovely story sharing that ended up having a connection to Jinya. I'm watching it for free so I have a 1-week delay, but I'm guessing the current consciousness of Natsu is actually Jinya's OG sister? It would make sense since it's already 2/3 of the cour and we've basically forgotten about her xD I wonder if they're gonna give this show a well-budgeted fight scene if/when Jinya fights a big boss this season (Akitsu?). GridironOtaku said: Did they mention this during the episode? Episode 9 And by Somegoro Akitsu III, this guy inherited the famous craftsman's skills from his successor, which explains the name. Akitsu I is long dead, while his successor, dubbed Akitsu II, passed on the teachings. Nevertheless, he's quite dangerous seeing that his works have a life of their own as they fuse with demon energy, but it's nothing Jinya can't handle as he absorbed those demons, and threatened to absorb Akitsu himself before he explained everything and gave him a kogai to set the soul inside the kanzashi free. And with that, case closed. But seeing it jump to the present day just nine episodes in was rather unexpected as while I knew that it was eventually going to get to the present day, not this quickly. So now, Jinya is a century-old high school student going by the name of Jinya, and the shrine where the village he grew up in was located is now Jinta Shrine. They skipped quite a lot, but I'm hoping it's just a teaser rather than a straight-up time skip. |

Episode 10 And now, a school play where Jinya is reliving a moment in life he was involved in, and it makes me think that he wrote that play. It involves Naotsugu and a nameless prostitute who met in the rain. The harlot got possessed by a demon, but was saved. While I knew that Jinya still has a lot more story to tell about his life in the 19th century, doing this story through a play is quite brilliant. |

Episode 11 And now, it's back to the 19th century after a brief glimpse of the far future that awaits Jinya. And it involves a mysterious booze called Yuki no Nagori that is quite dangerous to drink as it plays all sorts of tricks on the drinker's minds. Naotsugu and Akitsu III are involved in this case as they try to see what exactly is in it and what the effects are, and it looks like demons are somehow involved. Let's see where this goes as something is definitely up about this drink. |

Episode 10: The way they told the story as both a stage play and showing the actual event were quite appealing to me. I could care less about Jinta's sister anymore, or any plot shenanigans-- just give me something like this every episode. I liked how Jinta was being so petty about Yotaka painting him as incompetent; Edgelord wants his aura respected xD On the nitpick side: they barely showcased the new character they introduced. |

Episode 12 That booze is evil, alright. After seeing demons popping up after somebody got drunk over the sake whose name translates to Snowy Remains, it's pretty clear that whoever made this sake has evil intentions. Those who drink it turn into demons as Jinya and Akitsu are out to destroy the source of this sinister sake. The guy who had been selling them is unwilling to give up his collection despite all the warnings, and even drank it in defiance. But he got the source of where it was produced, so that's where they are headed as some demon lady is behind the production of this extremely dangerous drink as some spring on a nearby mountain is where it came from. |

Episode 11: Are there even demons here, or is this just a public advisory ad for responsible drinking? xD I liked how they used Jinya's neighbors as an indicator to the progression of the Lingering Snow's effect. That was quite creative. Zenji really had a diss track for Natsu xD I guess they're officially a ship now. At the beginning of the episode, I thought it was another time skip where Jinya and Ofuu was about to celebrate their upcoming marriage, or that Zenji and Natsu already did. I might just 'Straw Hat' the last episode when it airs (I have a one-week episode delay T-T) |

Episode 12 & 13: They seem to have forgotten that Naotsugu drank some of the wine too. But Natsu's father did endure it for long as well without the attitude side effect so, I guess they're just built different. Speaking of Natsu's father, can't believe I forgot that he's Jinya's father too, which in turn didn't make me expect the turn of events. That last moment felt lacking to me though-- They should've at least given a hint that he still had a bit of his sense and kind of said at least a single word to Jinya to make it easier for him to make the decision. It could've been more of an emotional moment; I guess that's really the show's weakness. I guess we won't see more of lively Natsu anymore. Might even be used as another future weapon against Jinya by his sister. 7/10 for this 1st cour. The show's really good at storytelling-- makes me want to read the novel. But it also really sucks at giving character deaths, aftermath reactions, or closure the right emotions that it should have, or at least satisfying ones. I'll keep watching for the episodic storytelling, but don't give a damn about the main plot anymore. |

Episode 14 Going to show that this show will jump around in time, the second half starts off with a story that takes place back when Jinya was living in Kadono village as Jinta. There's a demon on the loose and Jinta is out to hunt him down. It turns out that the demon is Kiyomasa, a village priest who is a jealous man with an inferiority complex. As he had become a demon, Jinta had to cut him down. So with that, the story returns to where it left off as Jinya went back to Shirayuki's grave to pay his respects, and continues on his journey that has entered the Bakumatsu era, all while Miura has picked up the sword knowing the battles ahead. Pretty much, this is just setup and a look back before things get even more serious in a big way. |

Episode 15 And now, the show's main story continues after a flash forward episode and just last week, a flashback episode. Jinya hears rumors about a cursed sword and goes to deal with it as there's a lot of political backstabbing going on. Sugino is the one who crafted the curse sword to assassinate Zuizan, the Tosa Imperialist Party leader. After gathering some intel from Tsuchiura, who is Hatakeyama's aide who has a bone to pick with somebody who betrayed him, he takes action. He dislodges the sword from Sugino and absorbs its power where he learns that Sugino became possessed by the sword and then killed his wife in his possessed state. This goes to show that it's a bad idea to mess with demonic powers unless you know how to handle them. Sugino thought his sword was the key to taking down a political enemy, but it took his wife and humanity along with it, but at least he got his humanity back. |
