What anime shows do you think are Overrated/Underrated?

An underrated show for me would be Toaru Majutsu no Index (A Certain Magical Index)

It starts off a bit boring with a pretty generic main character. The first arc is very hard to get through, so people end up dropping it before giving it another chance.

If you can get past the beginning, the characters and world start to open up more. I found myself liking the side characters more than the mc. Some side characters even get mini arcs. My fave being Accelerator + Last Order and Hamazura.

I just like the whole Science and magic system. Each side has it's own explanation of things. My favorite is the Science side because of well Accelerator haha.

They actually give scientific explanations to how these powers work. The whole power system is so complex and engaging, it really immerses you into the world.

Although, I would say the last season of Index wasn't that great. The pacing is pretty bad. I would recommend reading the light novels though!

Also, please don't give others hate for what they find overrated or underrated! This is just to see people opinions about these type of anime!

Never understood the hype behind Shield Hero, rewatching it this spring because I hate myself and It's so unbearably cliched and predictable.

Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood hasn't been getting much of any praise from what I've seen, it doesn't have much in the way of narrative or character complexity but the artstyle and animation are absolutely stunning. The atmosphere the show generates is wonderful as well.

Ok this isnt about the anime itself but about the op

Overrated: Demon Slayer. Gurenge is good and LiSa is amazing, but I think I heard the song way too much that i ended up disliking it more and more as I heard it.

Underrated: Cop Craft op Rakuen Toshi. This shit. Fucking. Slaps. The anime itself is not very good and i didnt expect it to be since it had such a low budget. But I really tried watching it because of this opening. Its so good and its a shame that literally no one talks about it.

Rent a Girlfriend is overrated? I thought a lot of ppl didn't like that show haha. But oof Mob Psycho 100 II was great, I liked it more than season 1.

overrated: any isekai as of late tbh. can't imagine how ppl watch the same shit and plotlines with one gimmick changed over and over again and just eat it up. I'm so tired of isekai

Overrated : Demon Slayer (this anime for me it just to basic for action or shounen anime, its like there is no plot that will make your mind blown.)

Lemme tell u guys/girls My hero academia and demon Slayer isn't overrated , they got what they deserve
Overrated- nothing specific comes to my mind now
Underrated- Onepunch man, 91 days, darker than Black,Boruto(yes boruto and that is because it's rating is around 5 but why , because of it's first 50 and from 66 to 140 episodes that sucked but didn't u see after that how amazing it is yes it is popular but here we are talking about ratings right!! So it's underrated)

For what you have for Overrated... dude, I agree. Jujutsu Kaisen has got some charm and I can see the appeal but as a god step into the new found wave of anime? I don't see it. Fair point if anything to it though.

overrated: Wonder Egg Priority. The show started off very strong and showed a lot of promise .. and then towards the end it turned into an absolute dumpster fire of loose plot points and half-assed exposition dumps. How is this still at score >8?

Right? I like JJK as well, but I'm confused as to why people treat it as the second coming of Jesus. To me, it's just another decent show that I enjoyed.

underrated: promare

Promare is really just Fire Force and Gundam combined. Everybody mecha lovers need to watch this movie just because it has really a unique art style (fucking trigger doing what they are best at) and animation wise is really smooth. You'll just be in awe when watching Promare.

for overrated animes i don't want to start an argument with it so I am gonna say the most underrated masterpiece is Kemono Jihen
holy shiz i cant believe so little people know of this anime. its seriously deserves all the attention and definitely a 2nd season I am still waiting

One of my favorite animes is an anime called Mekakucity Actors but, every time I try to ring it up into conversation. Everyone says that they have never seen it, it really disappoints me. It is underrated to the max and should be more overrated than it is. The art style is fantastic and the story is, although confusing at first, really interesting.

Despite it being a good anime, I think Demon Slayer is overrated. The main reason people decided to watch Demon Slayer was because of Nezuko. Now there are a lot of great things to this anime but, it seems that the main hype, when it comes to this anime, is Nezuko.

for me overrated is probably..boku no hero academia. it's amazing, and really I accept that, but personally I think that it has a lot of hype.
underrated- yuukoku no moriarty. this anime. this is such a masterpiece I can't even begin. so good, and underrated.
Hyouka is an underrated one as well. the show is really relaxing and nice to watch!

I view My Hero Academia as quite overrated animes out there.

As it's quite generic, also it doesn't bring anything to table too, also kinda side characters could be viewed as annoying.

I don't watched so many animes, but I will say what I think is overrated and underrated and why.

Overrated: Naruto (a classic), I was a mega-fan Naruto, but is just a normal shonen without a good storyline (I'm not an expert in this world of animes, but mha, kny, boruto and a lot of cartoons for children have the same story and characters).The Naruto universe was built for Naruto and his friends. The antagonists aren't created to do something special in show, just to learn Naruto about ninja's life and lose in front of him. The "true" fanbase is toxic, which can't see another anime, because Naruto is a masterpiece and the others aren't.

Underrated: One outs, a psychological anime with baseball. It has 25 episodes which cover extremely good the story, without plot holes. It's underrated, mayb because baseball isn't popular outside of USA. I was astonished in every second from this tv-show. If I made you curious, this is a link to One Outs:

The Aquatope on White Sand (Summer 2021) is one of the most underrated shows i have seen. its rated a 7.5 but i think it deserves at least over an 8. it is a hidden gem that i highly recommend to anyone who loves slice of life shows.
