The Castellan finally returns, a bronze mesh barrel floating in the air behind him. He bows before Maab, and the bronze wires peel back, revealing an emaciated child suspended in the center, the wires running under his skin and deep into his muscle. As soon as his one eye opens, he opens his mouth and tries to shriek, but cannot, on account of his lack of vocal cords, or a tongue. Maab licks her lips hungrily, and crooks a finger, causing the child to be brought to her feet.

All the wires begin to twitch, and the child's mouth gapes open wider, and his neck contorts at odd angles. Maab looks as if she is on the cusp of an orgasm, an appearance further reinforced by the blood pooling at her feet. The wires suddenly dive much deeper into the child, causing him to arch his back in pain, before the bronze begins to glow first red-hot, than white. The air is filled with the smell of cooked flesh, and the child continues to writhe at the feet of Maab.

As the wires continue to twitch back and forth, and dive in and out of the flesh, the child's bones begin to break as he continues to struggle on in his agony, the muscles detaching from the bone as joints rip themselves to bits. Maab eagerly inhales the smoke, as do I, and for a brief moment, I can feel the child's soul in my mouth, as my loins seem to glow with an internal heat.

Finally, the wires rip themselves straight up and out of the shell, leaving behind long, bloody tears with black char marks half-seen under partially cauterized flesh. Maab than reaches to her belt, and slowly descends from her throne, drawing a stone knife hewn from flint with her left hand, her right reaching out towards the child. She gently lifts him one-handed into the air, and, with a movement similar to a lover's caress, brings the knife to the boy's remaining eye.
