How many of you could cosplay in public (not a convention)?

There's not a right way to cosplay. It's all about having fun. If you enjoy cosplay but still take it as a competition and judge people on their physical features rather than on the quality and the efforts they put in their cosplays then you don't get it. And you are being a douche.

Now about the topic in itself. I honestly think there's nothing wrong with going outside in cosplay. Why do you care ? They're having fun. Maybe you should reconsider how accomodated by society you must be for thinking that wearing something unusual is stupid.

It's most of the time a passion. Sure, there are extreme cases who don't see it the right way. And I can tell some only do it as a way to shine. But again, why do you care. If it helps them with their self confidence, that doesn't seem bad to me.

I'm pretty sure some people take cosplay way too seriously when I actually take it as an escape from the everyday routine. It's healthier than alcohol AND it's creative. The whole fun in cosplaying goes from sewing, finding a way to make your entire cosplay by yourself if you're passionated enough and then starting to play. It's acting. It's playing a role, literally.
