To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day
Hardly spoke to folks around him didn't have too much to say
No one dared to ask his business no one dared to make a slip
for the stranger there among them had a big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip

It was early in the morning when he rode into the town
He came riding from the south side slowly lookin' all around
He's an outlaw loose and running came the whisper from each lip
And he's here to do some business with the big iron on his hip
big iron on his hip

In this town there lived an outlaw by the name of Texas Red
Many men had tried to take him and that many men were dead
He was vicious and a killer though a youth of twenty four
And the notches on his pistol numbered one an nineteen more
One and nineteen more

Now the stranger started talking made it plain to folks around
Was an Arizona ranger wouldn't be too long in town
He came here to take an outlaw back alive or maybe dead
And he said it didn't matter he was after Texas Red
After Texas Red

Wasn't long before the story was relayed to Texas Red
But the outlaw didn't worry men that tried before were dead
Twenty men had tried to take him twenty men had made a slip
Twenty one would be the ranger with the big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip

The morning passed so quickly it was time for them to meet
It was twenty past eleven when they walked out in the street
Folks were watching from the windows every-body held their breath
They knew this handsome ranger was about to meet his death
About to meet his death

There was forty feet between them when they stopped to make their play
And the swiftness of the ranger is still talked about today
Texas Red had not cleared leather fore a bullet fairly ripped
And the ranger's aim was deadly with the big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip

It was over in a moment and the folks had gathered round
There before them lay the body of the outlaw on the ground
Oh he might have went on living but he made one fatal slip
When he tried to match the ranger with the big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip

lady aribeth

Lady Aribeth de Tylmarande is a half-eladrin paladin of Tyr, the Blind God of Justice. She is said to have been born in Thundertree, a town in the Neverwinter Woods of uncertain parentage; some say a union between half-eladrin, others a moon elf and a human. The village was wiped out in an orc raid leaving her the sole survivor of the massacre. Vowing vengeance, she hunted down the perpetrators and slew them all, but, unsatisfied, continued to hunt and kill orcs in an obsessive quest until she was trapped in a sudden blizzard and rescued by a one-armed man she believed an avatar of the god Tyr, who took her to a monastery of Ilmater. Recovering her health there, she learned to be a paladin, gaining such fame that when she moved to Neverwinter, she was named to the elite bodyguard of Lord Nasher Alagondar, being the first woman and first non-human to be so honored. There she met and became engaged to Fenthick Moss, cleric of Tyr in that temple.

In the original campaign, Lady Aribeth is chosen by Nasher Alagondar to be in charge of the investigations surrounding the Wailing Death. She begins training adventurers at an academy to combat the forces behind the plague, and after the Waterdhavian creatures needed for a magical cure become scattered throughout the city, the hero, who was an exceptional student at the academy, is placed by Aribeth in charge of tracking them down. After her lover, Fenthick Moss, is found guilty by association and is hanged for trusting Desther, a false Helmite and agent of Maugrim who was actually in charge of spreading the plague, Aribeth views Neverwinter as having betrayed Fenthick and needing to atone for his death. It is revealed also that Morag appears to Aribeth in her dreams and tempts her to join Maugrim's cult with promises of revenge. Aribeth initially continues to lead Neverwinter's effort to find the cult as they search outside and around Port Llast, but eventually disappears. Upon reaching the Luskan's Host Tower, the hero learns that Aribeth has become a blackguard in the service of Morag and has agreed to lead Maugrim's Luskan army in their impending assault on Neverwinter. At the climax of this assault, the hero confronts Aribeth and defeats her in combat. The hero may then either persuade Aribeth to surrender and return to Lord Nasher to face judgment or be forced to fight her to the death.

In Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark, Aribeth is revealed to have died. According to accounts of her given by Sharwyn, Daelan Red Tiger, Tomi Undergallows, and Linu La'neral, Aribeth tragically died sometime after Morag's defeat. Upon encountering her spirit in Cania, the hero finds her distraught with her betrayal of Neverwinter due to her realization that she never truly loved Fenthick; her betrayal therefore was not motivated by her love of Fenthick as she had thought and was consequently much less justified. The hero can either persuade her to return to the service of Tyr, or accept the evil path that she has chosen; either way, she will join the hero in his/her quest. Aribeth herself says that she died violently, though her memories were somewhat hazy. Presumably, the hero of Neverwinter attempted to defend Aribeth while she was tried for her crimes. The hero would have been heavily outvoted, since the majority of Neverwinter called for Aribeth's execution. Lord Nasher complied with the city's request and as a result, the hero of Neverwinter's friendship with Lord Nasher ended, and he (the hero is revealed to have been male) left Neverwinter, never to be heard from again. Because of the hero's falling out of favor with Lord Nasher, Nasher had revisionists play down his role in saving Faerûn from destruction.

If Aribeth is at the protagonist's side at the very end in the confrontation with Mephistopheles, the archdevil will use his considerable charisma to play on her uncertainties and turn her to his side unless the player character can be even more persuasive.

Bastila Shan

From the Expanded Universe
Like most Jedi of the ancient order, Bastila Shan was found to be Force-sensitive at a young age, and spirited away from her family to be raised within the order. Despite the stern discipline of a Jedi upbringing, Bastila grew to be a brash, impulsive young woman.
Shan was gifted in art of Jedi Battle Meditation, a rare ability usually only accessible to the most skilled and wizened Jedi Masters. Through sheer force of will, she could influence the course of massive battles. She could bolster the courage of one side of a battle, while draining the resolve of another. It is an exhausting feat, but Bastila proved extremely valuable in crucial engagements during Darth Malak's campaigns against the Republic.

Knowing how valuable she was to the order, the Jedi Council urged Bastila to be cautious, be she nonetheless devoted every fiber of her being towards defeating the Sith menace and proving herself to the Jedi.

Bastila was instrumental in the last great Republic riposte against Darth Malak and Darth Revan, splitting the pair and conquering one of the Sith Lords. The Jedi Council had learned sketchy details about the Sith plot involving the Star Forge, but needed more information in order to stop it. They crafted a devious and controversial plan into which Bastila Shan figured prominently.

The captive Revan underwent a memory wipe, and was given a new identity. This new persona was paired with Bastila Shan in the search for Darth Malak and the Star Forge. Bastila kept a wary eye on Revan, always alert at signs of the dark side. Such an awareness opened her to the dark side more than she intended. The quest for the Star Forge, which spanned worlds, kept Revan and Bastila working side-by-side, and thrust Bastila into difficult and challenging roles as a Jedi.

Bastila, Carth Onasi and the reformed Revan were captured by Darth Malak and held prisoner aboard his flagship, the Leviathan. With the help of their comrades from the Ebon Hawk, the trio escaped, but not before Revan found out the truth behind the Jedi Council's duplicity. Stunned, Revan grappled with the revelation, as Bastila heroically attacked Darth Malak to act as a distraction. Revan and Carth fled to the Hawk, blasting free of the Sith warship, but Bastila was once again imprisoned.

Malak tortured Bastila, corrupting her will and turning her to the dark side of the Force. The next time Revan encountered Bastila, she was a dark warrior filled with rage. Bastila urged Revan to turn to the dark side, and the decision made by Revan ultimately sealed the fate of Bastila, the Star Forge, and Darth Malak's scourge.

Behind the Scenes
Bastila Shan is one of the main playable characters in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Armed with a double-bladed lightsaber and equipped with Force abilities available to a Jedi Sentinel, she is a good choice for close-assault combat action.
Depending on the choice of gender of the main player character, Bastila may be a romantic interest in the KOTOR storyline. Though Bastila is fated to fall to the dark side in the game, whether or not she stays there is up to the actions of the player character. Possible story outcomes include the player character joining Bastila, Bastila returning to the light, or the player character killing Bastila.

In the development of Bastila's character, early versions had her be Vima Sunrider -- the daughter of Nomi Sunrider from the Tales of the Jedi comics series. When that direction was abandoned, the character was briefly named Sareth Dorn before the name Bastila was taken from the Cathar Jedi, which was renamed Juhani. Bastila Shan was voiced by Jennifer Hale.

Indoril Nerevar

Indoril Nerevar was the Chimeri king of Resdayn (modern-day Morrowind), a war hero who united his people, and the founder of House Indoril. He became the Herald of the Tribune Way, and as such is the foremost of the saints of Dunmeri faith, along with his wife, blessed Almalexia the Warden, Lord Sotha Sil the Magus, Lord Vivec the Poet, and Saint Veloth the Pilgrim. Prophecies of his "rebirth" as the Nerevarine and heroic return to Morrowind fueled the creation of the Nerevarine Cult. He possessed the Dwarven artifact Moon-and-Star, a ring which lent him supernatural powers of persuasion; because he was the only person who could wear the ring, it also became a means to prove the identity of the Nerevarine.

Together with Dumac Dwarfking, Indoril Nerevar forged an alliance between the warring clans of Chimer and Dwemer in 1E 401 against Skyrim invaders. Although this alliance faced many challenges and suspicions, it finally succeeded in pushing the Nords out of Resdayn by 1E 416. This wartime alliance developed into the First Council, securing an uneasy peace. Resdayn flourished under the leadership of Dumac and Nerevar. Peace among the Chimer, and between the elves and the dwarves, brought an unprecedented prosperity and flowering of both cultures.

Nerevar was killed during or shortly after the Battle of Red Mountain, under disputed circumstances. He is said to have killed Dumac, the Last Dwemer King. In some versions, he rejoiced in the deed, and feasted on his heart: in others, Dumac and Nerevar had been allied, and the betrayal (by Dumac's minion Kagrenac), which led them into conflict, grieved both Nerevar and Dumac greatly.

In Ashlander texts as well as accounts by the Dissident Priests found in Vivec's temple, however, it is written that Nerevar was not killed in combat, but by his three advisors, Vivec, Almalexia, and Sotha Sil. In this account, Nerevar made them swear to never use the tools, and they obeyed, but secretly conspired to murder Nerevar so that they might gain power. When attempting to summon Azura, Nerevar was foiled; Almalexia used poisoned candles and Sotha Sil used poisoned robes and Vivec used poisoned invocations. Nerevar was killed. In retribution for their betrayal, Azura turned the skin of the Chimer gray, and turned their eyes fiery red. However, the Tribunal (that is, Vivec, Almalexia and Sotha Sil) went on to use the power of the tools and the Heart to become immortal. Afterwards, they set themselves up as the new gods of the Dunmer, claiming superior divinity to the Daedra, whom the Chimer had self-exiled for the worship of. Eventually, their Tribunal Temple took control of all of Morrowind, becoming the monolithic and seemingly infallible entity it was by the end of the Third Era, and leaving only isolated pockets of Ashlanders to maintain the old beliefs.

For their treachery, Azura proclaimed that someday Nerevar would be reincarnated and would make things right again. This led to the persecution of followers of the Nerevarine Cult.

Morrigan and Zevran

■Morrigan: So what is going to keep you from poisoning your target now that you have been allowed to accompany us, I wonder?
■Zevran: You are. You will be watching me ever so closely to make sure I attempt no such thing.
■Morrigan: And why would I do such a thing? Sneaking into our good graces in order to make another attempt is what I would do, were I you.
■Zevran: And here I was becoming rather fond of the idea of you watching me closely.
■Morrigan: It would be a simple enough matter to poison the food in camp. Or cut our throats while we sleep.
■Zevran: You seem rather charmed by the idea.
■Morrigan: It would seem an appropriate result of sparing your life.
■Zevran: Ah. Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you then. The next time I am spared I will be sure to immediately turn upon my benefactors. Will that do?
───────
■Morrigan: You do still intend to kill your target, do you not? Is your reputation not on the line?
■Zevran: Are you still on about this, woman?
■Morrigan: I am led to believe that the Crows would never permit such a transgression. They will come after you, and in force.
■Zevran: It has come to my attention that the Crows are not always successful when pit against Grey Wardens and their companions.
■Morrigan: Perhaps they will send someone competent next time.
■Zevran: You wound me.
■Morrigan: I have considered doing far more than that, trust me.
───────
■Morrigan: So you do not fear the Crows at all?
■Zevran: I think of it more as my desire to leave them far exceeds the fear I possess of them.
■Morrigan: You think the Grey Wardens will give you safe harbor once all this is done? Surely you are not so naive.
■Zevran: I am willing to take my chances.
■Morrigan: And if you are wrong?
■Zevran: Then I will be dead. One does not do what I do and fear death so very greatly.
■Morrigan: There are fates worse than death.
■Zevran: And one of them is being unable to choose which master you serve. Trust me, my dear, I am well pleased with my current direction.
───────
■Morrigan: These Crows of yours, Zevran. Are they as extraordinary as you claim?
■Zevran: They all but rule over my homeland. Do you find that extraordinary?
■Morrigan: If true. Are they so powerful simply because they are very good at what they do? Or is there some secret to their power?
■Zevran: If there were a secret, it would only remain so if it were not told, my dear.
■Morrigan: You are not longer bound to such a code. or do you believe their wrath will be greater than it already is, should you speak out of turn?
■Zevran: It may be that I simply do not wish to tell you. You get the most delightful wrinkle in your brow when you are curious.
■Morrigan: I see. You are impossibly frustrating, you know this.
■Zevran: I do. It is part of my charm, or so I'm told.
───────
■Zevran: Your mother is supposedly the one called Flemeth, the very witch from legend, is that not true?
■Morrigan: There is nothing "supposed" about it. Flemeth is my mother.
■Zevran: Hmm. I was more doubtful of the legend rather than your relationship to this woman. Anyone can claim a name, after all.
■Morrigan: You're welcome to ask her, if you ever meet her. You're just her type.
■Zevran: Oh? Elven and handsome?
■Morrigan: The sort that will never be missed.
■Zevran: Sounds intriguing, if you ask me.
■Morrigan: You assassin types have a death wish, I see.
■Zevran: (Laughs) Only the really good ones.
───────
■Zevran: So if the legend of your mother is true, Morrigan, does that mean that the legends of her many daughters are as well?
■Morrigan: To be honest, I have no idea. I've never met any sister of mine, nor has my mother spoken of any.
■Zevran: But it could be true, yes? If you exist, there could have been others like you.
■Morrigan: Long ago, perhaps. Why?
■Zevran: We have legends of witches in Antiva. one that tells of a Witch of the Wild, traveled far from her home to settle in the Tellari Swamps.
■Morrigan: And? You thought I might know this woman?
■Zevran: If one legend can be true, why not another? Who knows how many Morrigans are scattered about Thedas, hmm?
■Morrigan: It's not something I'd like to contemplate.
■Zevran: Oh? You do not appreciate a little competition from a half-sister or two?
■Morrigan: Silence, elf. It is none of your concern.
───────
■Zevran: Such sinister glares do you a disservice, dear Morrigan. Yours should be a face that smiles.
■Morrigan: Do tell.
■Zevran: Has no one told you? Perhaps that is not surprising, considering you have lived such a sheltered life. Were you a woman of the city, you would be accustomed to men showering you with praise and gifts.
■Morrigan: I know as much of men as I need to. I know when one is indulging in pointless flattery, for instance.
■Zevran: It is flattery only if I exaggerate the truth to please you. I am but stating a simple fact.
■Morrigan: Tell me, does this work on other women?
■Zevran: I think any woman would like to hear the truth of how her beauty affects a man. Do you not?
■Morrigan: I think that sort of manure is best reserved for farming.
■Zevran: Ah, one day you will realize that you have wasted your youth and beauty on bitterness and suspicion, mark my words.
■Morrigan: Remind me to bring you along if we go sailing. The hot air will prove useful.
───────
(with Leliana/Alistair/Oghren in the party)

■Zevran: Has anyone told you what marvelous eyes you possess, my dear?
■Morrigan: Again with the flattery? Do you not tire from these pointless exercises?
■Zevran: In Antiva, women are accustomed to being showered with the praise they deserve. Men should worship you at your feet as you pass.
■Morrigan: They don't find that incredibly annoying?
■Zevran: They are goddesses receiving their subjects, just as you should be. Whatever would be annoying about that?
■Morrigan: I have no wish to be placed upon a pedestal.
■Zevran: But you deserve no less. You should be admired by painters, copied by sculptors, exalted by poets! Surely you know that yours is a beauty so exotic it-it would turn the eye of the Maker Himself!
■Morrigan: Well, I suppose I...
(with Alistair)

■Alistair: By the Maker! You were right! You win.
■Zevran: I think you owe me five silvers, yes?
■Morrigan: I hate you all.
(with Leliana)

■Leliana: You are a master indeed, Zevran. You win the bet fair and square.
■Zevran: Much obliged, madame.
■Morrigan: I hate you all.
(with Oghren)

■Oghren: Hmph. Fine. So I owe you a flagon. Bastard.
■Zevran: Much obliged, ser.
■Morrigan: I hate you all.
───────
(if the Warden is in a romance with Zevran)

■Morrigan: That is wily of you, Zevran.
■Zevran: What is so wily of me, o magical temptress?
■Morrigan: Getting in the good graces of the one who decides whether you live or die. Not to mention the one who can protect you against your former comrades.
■Zevran: And I am supposed to believe you are here because of a... sense of patriotism, perhaps?
■Morrigan: Ha! Hardly that.
■Zevran: We all have our reasons for doing what we do. Mine happen to come with a set of (male Warden)strong hands/(female Warden) lovely eyes.
───────
(if the Warden is in a romance with Morrigan)

■Zevran: I see your friendship with the Grey Warden is going very well.
■Morrigan: Is there a reason you say that with a smirk, elf?
■Zevran: I think you know. You and I are not so dissimilar after all. I know what you are doing, lovely woman.
■Morrigan: And what is it that you think I am doing? Besides the Grey Warden that is.
■Zevran: Biding your time, naturally. But for what, I wonder?
■Morrigan: Why don't you ask him, if you're so curious.
■Zevran: I doubt that he even knows. I am content to wait and see for myself, however.
■Morrigan: Then don't bring it up again.
(alternate version if the Warden is also in a romance with Zevran)

■Zevran: I see your friendship with the Grey Warden is going very well.
■Morrigan: As is yours.
■Zevran: A-ha! Then you know?
■Morrigan: I am not a fool, if you thought me one.
■Zevran: I do not think you a fool, my lovely woman. We are not so dissimilar, after all. I know what you are doing.
───────
(after completing Flemeth's Real Grimoire)

■Zevran: So I wonder, do you intend to take your mother's place, now?
■Morrigan: Take her place? What do you mean?
■Zevran: As the new Witch of the Wild. That was her title, no? When one slays the queen, it's assumed they'll take her throne.
■Morrigan: Considering the throne is a small shack in the middle of a cold wilderness, I think I may just pass.
■Zevran: And why would you lie to me, I wonder?
■Morrigan: Ah. Is this the part where you hint at some subtle plot of mine? Because you are so very perceptive?
■Zevran: So you didn't know what your mother planned until you read it in that book, that's what you said.
■Morrigan: That is correct.
■Zevran: I admire you. You are a wicked, wicked woman.
■Morrigan: And you are a fool who spends far too much time on his hair.
───────
(after Alistair's heritage is revealed)

■Morrigan: Think of it, Zevran. you may have stumbled into a most delightful possibility for your future.
■Zevran: Oh? Are you dispensing professional advice now?
■Morrigan: It simply occurs to me that if, say, Alistair were to become king of Ferelden he may have need of someone of your... talents.
■Zevran: From what I know of the fellow it seems there would be a fair difference between what he needed and what he cared to make use of.
■Morrigan: If Alistair becomes king, it would certainly not be through any brilliance on his part. Whoever puts him there... now there's the one who will need you.
■Zevran: Hmmm. Now that's an interesting thought. You've such a devious mind, my dear. Why have we not made love as of yet?
■Morrigan: For what purpose? I would sooner stab you in the face than let you touch me, elf.
■Zevran: And somehow that makes the idea even more intriguing...

You're trying to make me laugh. You think I'm here to amuse you. To make funny sputtering noises when you offer an insult instead of a reward.
You assume I give a damn. That's cute.
We don't have time to deal with this idiot, charge!
If you don't stop nagging, I'll turn this ship around and drop your ass back in that volcano.
If you want to see more of that package than me beating you with it, make a serious offer.
I haven't been shot in the head nearly enough times for that to sound like a good idea.
Nothing is ever simple, is it?
I'm packing fire and steel, if they want to fight with claws and teeth it's their funeral.
You won't look so smug with a hole in your head.
Find something we can use to get out of here. Somebody up there needs my boot up his ass.
You can expect me to kill you next time we meet.
I'm pissed off, and when I'm pissed off I shoot things! Find me more bugs!
If we present you for a medal you'll have to sit on a stage and listen to politicians make speeches for a couple of hours. Fun, fun.
[To Joker upon asking about his nickname] I was just thinking about how much you remind me of Santa Claus.
[Upon seeing a building-sized creature] We are going to need bigger guns.
My brain's just been scrambled like an egg!
Make sure he's dead.
What would anybody want with Krogan testicles?
I've had enough of your snide insinuations! (Punches reporter in the face.)
Because it's a big, stupid jellyfish.
I can bludgeon pretty hard.
I have to go.
Is that a bad joke? I have killed worse than you on my way to real problems
I believe it's better to be feared then loved. Ever read Machievelli?
[edit] Ashley Williams
A million lightyears from where humanity began, and we walk into a bar filled with drunk men drooling over half-naked women shaking their asses on a stage. I can't decide if that's funny or sad.
Why is it that when someone says 'With all due respect' they really mean 'Kiss my ass'?
A pessimist is what an optimist calls a realist.
I see a strong, passionate man. With a great ass.
[To Kaidan after entering Chora's Den] Hey LT, Put your tongue back in your mouth before you trip over it.
If you want me to put on a tin skirt and dance in front of a crowd of men, I want dinner first. Sir.
[After completing romance subplot] Well, that gives a new meaning to the phrase "drop and give me 20!"
[edit] Urdnot Wrex
Don't piss in my ear and tell me it's raining, I've known plenty of dirty C-Sec agents.
If I die here, I'll kill him.
Typical asari meddling. About time it bit you in the ass.
My people have a saying. Seek an enemy of your enemy, and you find a friend.
An explosion now and then is nice. Keeps the mind sharp.
Well, there was that one time the Turians tried to wipe out my entire race. That was fun.
When was the last time you ever saw a krogan scientist? You ask a krogan if he'd rather research a cure for the genophage or fight for credits, and he'll choose fighting, every time. Its just who we are, Shepard. I can't change that. No one can.
Little bitch. [Ashley shoots him]
A lot of people died in this place. Now it's time for a lot of geth to join them.
I could use a snack. Is there any fish out in that lake?
A private docking bay. Wonder how much the Alliance had to shell out for that.
[edit] Tali'Zorah nar Rayya
I'm pleased that the imminent destruction of all organic life has improved your career opportunities.
What is it about you [Commander Shepard] that makes people think we enjoy being in harm's way?
My name is Tali. Tali'Zorah nar Rayya.
I'll be right behind you... that armor, it is in good condition?
[edit] Joker
I'm not good, I'm not even great, I am the best damn helmsman in the Alliance fleet!
Too close, Commander. Ten more seconds and we would have been swimming in molten sulphur. The Normandy isn't equipped to land in exploding volcanoes. They tend to fry our sensors and melt our hulls. Just for future reference.
Ah, hey, Commander. Next time we touch down, let's try not to park the ship in a colony of mutant zombies. Just thinking out loud here.
One wrong step and CRACK! It's very dramatic.
Boy am I glad to be off Noveria. I don't know which is worse; the cold or the corporations. One will freeze your balls off, the other will sell em' out from under you. With all due respect, Commander.
Look, you remember to zip up your flight suit on the way back from the bathroom, that's good. I just shot us halfway across the galaxy and hit a target the size of a pinhead, that's incredible.
I have to be real careful when I get up to take a piss, though.
They all got their asses kicked by the sickly kid with the creaky little legs. One guess who was smiling at graduation.
Put the Normandy in my hands and I'll make her dance for you, just don't tell me to get up and dance, unless, you know, you like the sound of snapping shinbones.
The world's not going to hand you anything if you go around grinning like an idiot.
Ah, dammit! No sign of pursuit!
[edit] Saren Arterius
Is submission not preferable to extinction?
Your species has to learn its place. You're not ready to join the Council. You're not even ready to join the Spectres.
I'm not doing this for myself. Don't you see, Sovereign will succeed. It is inevitable. My way is the only way any of us will survive.
You would undo my work. You would doom our entire civilization to complete annihilation, and for that, you must die.
Goodbye, Shepard. Thank you. [Shoots himself]
[edit] Sovereign
Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
There is a realm of existence so far beyond your own, you cannot even imagine it. I am beyond your comprehension. I am Sovereign.
Reaper? A label created by the Protheans to give voice to their destruction. In the end, what they chose to call us is irrelevant, we simply are.
Organic life is nothing but a genetic mutation, an accident. Your lives are measured in years and decades. You wither, and die. We are eternal, the pinnacle of evolution and existence. Before us, you are nothing. Your extinction is inevitable. We are the end of everything.
The pattern has repeated itself more times than you can fathom. Organic civilisations rise, evolve, advance, then at the apex of their glory, they are extinguished. The Protheans were not the first, they did not create the citadel, they did not forge the mass relays, they merely found them, the legacy of my kind.
Your civilization is based on the technology of the mass relays, our technology. By using it, your society develops along the paths we desire. We impose order on the chaos of organic evolution. You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it.
We have no beginning. We have no end. We are infinite. Millions of years after your civilization has been eradicated and forgotten, we will endure.
We are legion. The time of our return is coming. Our numbers will darken the sky of every world. You cannot escape your doom.
Your words are as empty as your future. I am the vanguard of your destruction. This exchange is over.
(Through Saren) I am Sovereign. And this station is MINE!
[edit] Others
Lorik Qui'in: "Let me go?" Do humans consider conversation a form of imprisonment? Well, that would explain why humans are less willing to sit down and talk.
Richard Jenkins: Even paradise gets boring.
Krogan Warlord: Surrender... or don't. That would be more fun.
Gianna Parasini: See ya round the galaxy, Commander. I owe you a beer.
Engineer Adams: Relax, Pressly. You're gonna give yourself another ulcer.
Inamorda: If you don't stop poking me, I'll throw you off that balcony.
Inamorda: Stupid base-10 math. That's what they get for having extra fingers.
Anoleis: Good, I received a dozen urgent messages while you dithered about.
Matriarch Benezia: (before dying) No light? They always said there would be a light...
Captain Kirrahe: We are trained for espionage - we would be legends, but the records are sealed.
Glory in battle is not our way - think of our heroes, the Silent Step, who defeated a nation with a single shot. Or the Ever Alert, who kept armies at bay with hidden facts. These giants do not seem to give us solace here, but they are not all that we are.
Before the network, there was the fleet. Before diplomacy, there were soldiers!
Our influence stopped the Rachni, but before that we held the line! Our influence stopped the Krogan, but before that, we held the line! Our influence will stop Saren, in the battle today, we will hold the line!
[edit] Dialogue
Kaidan Alenko: Mineshaft. That's the source of the signal.
Ashley Williams: Smells like ambush, Commander.
Kaidan Alenko: I agree. This thing didn't crash. Somebody moved it here.
Commander Shepard: Your grasp of the obvious is inspiring.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Urdnot Wrex: So tell me, who'd win in a fight between you and Shepard?
Kaidan Alenko:What? Commander Shepard is my superior officer. I can't imagine us ever having a fight.
Urdnot Wrex: You can't? That's why Shepard's your superior officer! And that's why Shepard would win.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mira: Online. How can I help you?
Commander Shepard: Activate the neutron purge.
Mira: I'm sorry, but I can't do that without proper code authorization.
Commander Shepard: Uh, sic semper tyrana-- *cough*
Mira: That is not the correct code, please report to security for arrest and interrogation.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commander Shepard: You think I'm crazy don't you?
Urdnot Wrex: Sometimes crazy is the best way to go.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commander Shepard: You krogan live for centuries, you must've had something interesting happen.
Urdnot Wrex: Well, there was this one time when the turians almost wiped out our entire race. That was fun.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Garrus Vakarian: I really hope we get to see the Normandy in combat.
Urdnot Wrex: Only an idiot wishes for combat in a stealth ship.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

C-Sec Officer: You want us to arrest you?
Urdnot Wrex: I want you to try.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Urdnot Wrex: This is the great turian General? How did your people ever defeat us?
General Septimus: I may be drunk, krogan, but you're ugly. And in the morning I'll be sober.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kaidan Alenko: We're fighting a gigantic, super advanced race of machines and I don't know if I should be in awe or be scared because they're aliens?
Commander Shepard: The turians are aliens and we put a boot up their ass.
Kaidan Alenko: This is different. We're going to need a bigger boot.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Garrus Vakarian: No salarian hearts, no turian livers, not one krogan testicle.
Commander Shepard: You're kidding right? Why would any one want krogan testicles?
Garrus Vakarian: Some Krogan believe that testicle transplants can increase their virility. Counteract the effects of the Genophage. It doesn't work but that doesn't stop them from buying. They'll pay up to 10,000 credits each. That's 40,000 for a full set. Somebody's making a killing out there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kaidan Alenko: What was that!?
Urdnot Wrex: Probably just debris. Don't have a panic attack, I'll protect you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commander Shepard: Let's not start a fight.
Urdnot Wrex: Why not?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tali'Zorah: The credits are being funnelled to this terminal, all we have to do is disconnect it.
Terminal: Probability of detection 100%. Initiating self destruct sequence.
Urdnot Wrex: ...or not.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Urdnot Wrex: Do your people ever talk about how you unleashed the geth on the universe and then got banished from your own world by them?
Tali'Zorah: Do your people ever talk about how you tried to take over the universe, but were struck with a virus to make you all sterile?
Urdnot Wrex : All the time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tali'Zorah: So, Dr. T'Soni, all these Prothean ruins we're exploring - this must be like a survey for you.
Liara T'Soni: Not exactly. For one, I am usually alone on my expeditions, and two, they involve much more time for study... and far fewer explosions.
Tali'Zorah: Yes, it's a pity that most of the technology I had planned to bring back to the Flotilla has subsequently tried to kill us.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anoleis: Shepard! I demand you place this bitch under arrest!
Gianna Parasini: You have the right to remain silent. I wish to God you'd exercise it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scientist A: Okay okay, this one will get you.
Scientist B: Ugh... not again. How can you joke at a time like this?
Scientist A: Just listen. So, there are these two hydrogen atoms and they're talking. One says to the other, 'Hey, I lost my electron!' And then the other one says, 'Really? Are you sure about that?' And then the first hydrogen atom says, 'Yeah...I'm positive!' Hahaha!
Scientist B: Just shutup. God.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charles Saracino: If aliens express their opinions at gunpoint, then why shouldn't we?
Urdnot Wrex: Because they have bigger guns?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Urdnot Wrex: Bah, we're wasting time, we could have beaten him into cooperation.
Garrus Vakarian: No we couldn't.
Urdnot Wrex: Yeah we could; think he lifts anything heavier than stacks of hard data?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Turian Council Member: Shepard, do you enjoy genocide?
Commander Shepard: Depends on the species – turian!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commander Shepard: Would you kiss anyone I ordered you to?
Ashley Williams: That would depend. If it were a superior officer, that would be a violation of the regs regarding fraternization. I'd be required to decline and relieve you of command – Sir.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Joker: I thought I was going to get a chance to put the Normandy through her paces.
Commander Shepard: Who knows Joker, maybe we'll get to play hide and seek with Sovereign.
Joker: You know it doesn't sound that much fun when you're saying it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kaira Stirling: You know what we did to cop killers on my world?
Urdnot Wrex: You're breaking the law working for bribe money. You know what we do to dirty cops on my world?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mira: It looks like you are trying to restore this facility. Would you like some help?
Commander Shepard: Oh crap, a pop-up.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commander Shepard: In case you hadn't noticed, this whole place is falling apart!
Krogan Warlord: Exhilarating, isn't it?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Shepard and his party sneak up on a Krogan trying to enter a restricted area]
ExoGeni VI: I am unable to comply. Please contact your supervisor.
Krogan Commander: Damn it! Tell me what I want, or I'll blast your virtual ass into actual dust!
ExoGeni VI: Please contact your supervisor for a level four security exemption, or make an appointment with-
Krogan Commander: Stupid machine!
ExoGeni VI: If there is nothing else, please step aside. There is a queue forming behind you for the use of this console.
[Krogan turns and sees Shepard]
Krogan Commander: Oh, good, I need to kill something.
[Shepard shoots the Krogan]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lorik Qui'in: Lady Benezia was also dressed for her role. An Asari in a pinstripe suit set tongues wagging among the younger male employees, so to speak.
Kaidan Alenko: It does sound like something you'd find on an extranet fetish site. ...What?
Urdnot Wrex: I don't get how a clothed female can be more attractive than a naked one.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kaidan Alenko: It looks like the Geth built themselves some sort of church.
Ashley Williams: Hey, If they’re looking for God, I’d be happy to speed them on their way.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ashley Williams: Hm, nobody died.
Kaidan Alenko: I could shoot someone if it'd make you feel better.
Ashley Williams: Nah, I'm good.
Commander Shepard: You're not really a "people" person, are you?
Ethan Jeong: I like people. I just like them more when they're helping the company cut a profit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commander Shepard: Shut up and get over here.
Ashley Williams: Make me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liara T'Soni: We almost died out there and your pilot is making jokes?
Commander Shepard: Joker pulled our asses out of there. He deserves the rights to a few bad jokes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commander Shepard: Every time humanity asks for help you ignore us!
Ambassador Udina: Shepard's right! I'm sick of this Council and its anti-human bullsh...
Asari Councilor: Ambassador!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Shepard has just shot Wrex]
Kaidan Alenko: Commander, are you... all right?
Commander Shepard: I'm feeling a hell of a lot better than he is.
Kaidan Alenko: Uhh, yeah, I guess so.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ashley Williams: Dad passed on a few years back, he's probably still watching though, so behave.
Commander Shepard: He's not a zombie is he?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commander Shepard: Are you sure you're capable to fly?
Joker: Um, I don't fly with my feet, Commander.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Turian Councilor: You released the Queen of the Rachni! How many generations until THEY take over the galaxy?
Commander Shepard: Three...no, four!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[When observing the scenic view over the wards]
Commander Shepard: The council represents more races than I thought. No wonder they're careful with newcomers.
Kaidan Alenko: They probably just want to keep everything running. It has to be hard keeping all these cultures working together.
Ashley Williams: Or maybe they just don't like humans.
Commander Shepard: Why not? We've got oceans, beautiful women, this emotion called love. According to the old vids, we have everything they want.
Kaidan Alenko: When you put it that way, there's no reason they wouldn't like you. I mean, us! Humans! Ma'am.
Ashley Williams: You don't take much shore leave, do you, L-T?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[When Liara admits to finding Shepard fascinating]
Commander Shepard: Sounds like you want to dissect me in a lab somewhere.
Liara T'Soni: What? No! I did not mean to insinuate-- Ah, I never meant to offend you, Shepard. I only meant that you would be an interesting specimen for in-depth study. No-- that's even worse!
Commander Shepard: Calm down, Liara. I was only joking.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commander Shepard: Anoleis is paying you to shake this place down. That makes you a criminal. I can kill criminals.
ERCS Guard: You're bluffing.
Urdnot Wrex: You're right. They're actually going to let me eat you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Ruins falling down apon the squad]

Krogan Warlord: Surrender... or don't. That would be more fun.
Commander Shepard: We don't have time to deal with this idiot! charge!

Every day, humans come one step closer to self destruction! I'm not destroying the world, I'm saving it!

Albert Wesker

Power-hungry, intelligent and cunning, Albert Wesker was a man who sought power and domination over the entire human race, all for his own gain. To this end, he was affiliated with the Umbrella Corporation, as one of its most promising researchers, and at the same time participated in illicit activities by going undercover as an officer in the RPD and the leader of S.T.A.R.S. in Raccoon City. Through the course of much betrayal of his allies to further his own plans, Wesker faked his death, gained superhuman powers from an experimental virus, and worked alongside both the mysterious "Organization" and Tricell, Inc.. He would eventually enact a plot, originally created by Ozwell E. Spencer, to transform the human race into powerful superhumans like himself, and be a god to rule over them and a new age. He has had a role in more Resident Evil games than any character, and is the primary antagonist of the series.

Background Edit“ The only thing that can defeat power is more power. That is the one constant in this universe. However, there is no point in power if it consumes itself. I will enlist the help of an old friend against our common foe; I will use one pawn to eliminate the other, and emerge with the spoils for myself... ”

Early life and Umbrella career
Albert Wesker was born of parents with superior intellectual genes.[4] He and dozens of other children of his caliber were collected and raised as components of the Wesker children project by the Umbrella Corporation and given the surname "Wesker".[4] He showed particular promise over the other children, which pleased Umbrella's founder, Ozwell E. Spencer.[citation needed] Spencer saw in Wesker the makings of what his children needed.[citation needed] Obviously not coincidentally, Albert would eventually go into the service of the same company that molded him and become a close employee under the watchful eyes of his 'creator', Spencer, all the while unaware of the pharmaceutical president's true intentions and his origins.

Wesker joined the international pharmaceutical enterprise Umbrella at the age of 17[notes 1] and began working as one of its researchers.[citation needed] In 1977, Wesker was assigned to the Umbrella Management Training Facility under Doctor James Marcus.[5] Wesker became friends with, and a rival of fellow trainee William Birkin, becoming colleagues and accomplices for years to come.[notes 2] Both Wesker and Birkin were regarded by Marcus as his best apprentices and the only people he trusted.[6] When the Training Facility was closed down on July 29, 1978, the two were personally transferred to the Arklay Research Facility (underneath the Spencer Estate) to continue their own tyrant virus research (while Marcus continued to work on his own), becoming the facility's chief researchers.[citation needed]

Wesker's and Birkin's research of the t-virus lasted over 13 years and three different stages.[citation needed] In 1988, when the research reached its third stage (the creation of the Tyrant Bio-weapon), Wesker and Birkin were then ordered by Spencer to assassinate their former mentor, Marcus and steal all of his research.[citation needed] Shortly after, Birkin's research yielded the discovery of the G-virus in the body of Lisa Trevor, a long time test subject of Wesker and Birkin's while at the Arklay facility.[citation needed] When Spencer approved his project in 1991, Wesker began having doubts about Spencer's intentions and requested a transfer to Umbrella's Intelligence Bureau that same year.[citation needed]

In 1996, Wesker joined the newly-founded S.T.A.R.S. division of the Raccoon Police Department, where he worked as a double agent for Umbrella, giving them information on any police investigations.[7] Two years after the formation of S.T.A.R.S., a series of cannibal homicides were reported near the Arklay region. While the public feared these deaths were the work of a local cult, only Umbrella knew the truth.[notes 3] In an effort to control the public outcry, S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team was dispatched to the region to investigate the situation.[8] Wesker used the time they were gone as an opportunity to gather battle data by pitting the members of S.T.A.R.S. against Umbrella's B.O.W.s.[notes 4]

At the same time, Wesker and Birkin were ordered to reclaim the Umbrella Training Facility. Unfortunately, the resurrected Marcus destroyed any chance of reclaiming it.[notes 5] Forced to destroy the facility, Wesker realized this to be the perfect opportunity to leave Umbrella to pursue his own personal interests.[9] After destroying the escaped failed experiment: The T-001, Wesker encountered the head of Umbrella's paramilitary organisations: Sergei Vladimir, who was Spencer's trusted colonel.[10] He asked where Wesker was going, and Wesker simply said his next mission.[11] Sergei reminded him that the reclamation of the training facility was his mission.[11]

Wesker pointed out that the t-virus had escaped, infecting a great deal of the area.[citation needed] He told Sergei that his intent was to destroy the facility and dispose of it, as it was of no further use.[citation needed] Sergei reminded Wesker that he was not in charge of Umbrella and could not just do as he pleased without his superiors' consent, unaware of Wesker's intentions to leave Umbrella, anyway.[citation needed] He then unleashed his bodyguard, an Ivan against him in order to punish Wesker for his failure and as a reminder of who was in control.[11] Wesker saw the fight as a chance for some entertainment and battled the B.O.W..[11]

Just as the Ivan was about to attack again, an explosion occured in the training facility, above. Wesker gave a soft smile as the facility's charges detonated, and the blast caught Sergei and his Ivan off guard so they could shield themselves.[11] This gave Wesker enough time to slip away and escape the defunct facility, prompting Sergei to say "I guess he didn't like his lesson."[11] Wesker then prepared to dispatch the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team to the region.[12]

The mansion incident.
“ I will follow my initial plan and lure the S.T.A.R.S. members into the Mansion. Their superior combat training should make them perfect test subjects. ”

By the following day, all contact with Bravo team was lost and Wesker's Alpha team was dispatched to the site.[13] Upon arrival, Alpha team was attacked by a loose Cerberus pack[13] and then, abandoned by their pilot, Brad Vickers.[13] After the loss of member Joseph Frost to the dogs,[13] Wesker and the remaining members of Alpha team sought refuge in the nearby mansion, where Wesker had previously worked.[13] Initially ordering everyone to split up, Wesker disappeared and left the remaining members of Alpha team (Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Barry Burton) to fend for themselves.[13]

Of the nine S.T.A.R.S. operatives who entered the mansion (including Wesker himself), only four members of Alpha team, along with Bravo team's Enrico Marini and Rebecca Chambers, managed to survive against the various creatures and bio-organic weapons that infested the facility. In order to ensure the downfall of the other members, Wesker used extortion in order to convince Barry to do his bidding (luring the others to traps) by threatening his family. When Enrico uncovered evidence that implicated Wesker and Umbrella, Wesker murdered Enrico.[13] However, Chris and Jill learned the truth about Wesker and then proceeded to foil his plot by destroying the T-002 Tyrant, along with the facility itself.[13]

During the ensuing chaos, Wesker injected himself with an experimental virus given to him by his partner, William Birkin.[14] After allowing the Tyrant to "kill" him, the virus reanimated his body after the room became empty. This gave him superhuman strength, agility and regeneration, but at the severe cost of the loss of his humanity. The resulting mutation also gave him gold-red cat-like eyes (but these were not immediately noticeable, due to the sunglasses he always wore). Wesker was revived, while the remaining S.T.A.R.S. operatives were convinced that the Tyrant killed him. After reviving, Wesker realized the S.T.A.R.S. had destroyed the Tyrant and escaped with their lives. He then tried to steal the data from the laboratory and escape.

Wesker found that Sergei had downloaded the data to the Russian base and the Red Queen had locked him from the mainframe system. He swore revenge against the remaining S.T.A.R.S. members, Sergei, and the Red Queen. His plans foiled, Wesker resolved to escape the mansion before the self-destruct timer ended. He was forced into a battle with the remaining B.O.W.s on his way to the exit, and praised his new immense powers when his enemies were swept away with little effort. Wesker mused that he hoped Chris and Jill would live long enough for the three of them to have their "tear-filled reunion", laughing evilly at the thought of seeing them again. He also had to deal with Lisa Trevor, who first approached Wesker outside an elevator leading to the surface from the lab.

Wesker was not expecting Lisa's arrival, believing that S.T.A.R.S. had disposed of her in Jessica's tomb. He managed to incapacitate the creature, saying "Nobody's perfect, not even you, Lisa." He then went up in the elevator, heading back up to the mansion. However, after he left, Lisa rose up from the ground, still not dead. With what little of her mind was left, Lisa had no other goal but to take revenge on the man who experimented on and deformed her. She pursued Wesker up to the mansion, and approached him again in the main hall. Wesker noted that he needed to pick up his pace, as the 'hour glass' was running low. He resolved to find another route, not wishing to waste time with the stubborn Lisa, who he knew would pursue him tirelessly.

Fending off the remaining B.O.W.s, Wesker had several confrontations with Lisa, who continued to note as stubborn and at one point humorously saying "She must like me." He saw why she had been called immortal after all the weaponry he emptied into her and she still got up. Eventually, Lisa unexpectedly turned away from Wesker and walked away, and it seemed she had given up. However, when returning to the main hall, Wesker again saw her, this time hiding behind columns in a corner. She approached him one final time, and Wesker, tired of her stalking, said he would grant her wish for eternal rest. Using his new abilities, Wesker matched the persistence of Lisa, jumping high into the air to avoid her more damaging attacks.

Wesker shot the chandelier above them loose, and lured Lisa under it. She was crushed when it fell, and as Wesker walked out of the main hall, he said "Be a good girl and stay dead this time." He then quickly sprinted through the forest, trying to put as much distance as possible between himself and the mansion before it exploded. When it finally did, taking Lisa with it, Wesker looked back at the burning rubble triumphantly. The scenario served as a metaphorical representation of Wesker's proclaiming of being reborn "like a phoenix emerging from the flame." He saw a new horizon stretch out before him, and thought of how he had risen beyond the human race and "cheated death itself", leaving nothing to oppose him in his quest for power.

Time with the "Organization" and the Raccoon City incident Edit
With the combat data and bio-weapon research data he acquired from the the mansion, Wesker was able to secure a high-ranking employment position within one of Umbrella's mysterious rivals known only under pseudonyms like "The Organization" and "The Agency".[notes 6]

Still holding the illusion of his death, Wesker avoided showing himself and instead took to being the contact between spies and the Organization.[15][notes 7] When Raccoon City suffered a t-virus outbreak, Wesker sent an agent by the name of Ada Wong to retrieve the G-virus sample in the (unknowing) possession of William's only daughter Sherry Birkin, hidden within her pendant.[16] Ada managed to retrieve the sample, much to Wesker and the Organization's pleasure.[15]

Rockfort Island/Antarctic lab incident
“ Sure I'm not human anymore, but just look at the power I've gained! ”

After months of hiding in the shadows, Wesker and the H.C.F. -a heavily armed assault force- attacked the Umbrella facility on Rockfort Island, intent on retrieving a sample of the T-Veronica virus by one of Umbrella's chief researchers Alexia Ashford. The t-virus was released in the process when armed conflict with Umbrella's guards took place.

The attack succeeded, especially when the t-virus samples and captive B.O.W's in the laboratory section of the facility broke containment and contaminated the Island. However, Wesker and his men failed to find the missing Alexia. Wesker then went to the Antarctic Research Facility, which had also suffered a t-virus outbreak from infected Rockfort employees fleeing to the facility.

It was here Wesker encountered his former subordinate Chris Redfield (who had arrived seeking his missing sister Claire). Wesker failed to gain a sample of the virus from Alexia, especially when he tried to use his own abilities to force her to surrender one, only to be driven back by Alexia's own abilities. Wesker then left Chris to fight Alexia, and secured a sample of the virus from the retrieved corpse of Steve Burnside. The base started its self-destruct sequence, but Wesker engaged Chris in combat, eager to settle the score. Wesker quickly used his immense strength and speed to gain dominance, with Chris refusing to allow Wesker an easy kill. Wesker was poised to deliver the finishing blow, only for an explosion, caused by the priming self-destruct, to knock a flaming pillar in between the two. Wesker, vowing Chris was lucky and next time they met he couldn't count on luck again, escaped the base as it began to crumble and explode around them. Wesker reached an Organization Submarine and sailed away. While the flaming pillar had badly burned Wesker's face, his burns healed sometime later due to his superhuman regenerative capabilities. It would be eight years later following this incident in which Wesker and Chris would meet each other for a confrontation once again.

Operation: Javier Edit
Four years later, in the year 2002 Wesker was later contacted by the leader of the South American drug cartel "Sacred Snakes", Javier Hidalgo. Apparently, a former researcher of Umbrella supplied Javier with the t-virus in an attempt to save his wife, Hilda Hidalgo, with disastrous results. As his daughter, Manuela Hidalgo, had also contracted the same illness as her mother, he requested Wesker's help. Wesker supplied him with the Veronica virus in exchange for a large sum of money as well as a share in his dealings. He also gave him specific instructions to utilize the T-Veronica virus, mirroring the samples created by Alexia Ashford. He later saw the rest of the mutated carcass of Javier Hildago from afar with his binoculars.

Russian facility incident
“ Chris, it appears our fates are forever intertwined... ”

One year later, in February 2003, Wesker infiltrated the Russian Umbrella Facility around the same time that Chris and Jill, his former S.T.A.R.S. subordinates, arrived for the purpose of destroy T-A.L.O.S., Umbrella's final B.O.W., and bring Umbrella to justice. Wesker made his way through the bowels of the facility teaming with all of its B.O.W.s, until reaching the sub-levels and encountering Sergei Vladimir once again, who claims that all the problems Umbrella went through over the years only made him stronger. Wesker told Sergei to step aside, and in response, Sergei sends his two Ivan bodyguards to dispatch Wesker. Using his superhuman abilities, Wesker defeated the two Ivans effortlessly, and continued deeper into the facility, where he met and confronted Sergei in the control room at the same time Chris and Jill fought T-A.L.O.S.. While they managed to eliminate Umbrella's final B.O.W., Wesker himself managed to defeat and kill Sergei Vladimir, who had mutated into a monster as a result of infecting himself with the t-virus. Wesker then took Umbrella data from the Red Queen, before deleting the computers memory, shutting down the facility. Shortly thereafter, finally having strong evidence against Umbrella, he brought his findings to the court. With information from Wesker (who operated under the pretence of being a personal friend of the CEO), Umbrella was found guilty and officially shut-down, its top officials suffering legal troubles and an international manhunt began for Ozwell E. Spencer. With the accumulated Umbrella Archives in hand, Wesker had what he needed to create a new Umbrella of his own. Wesker then took the archives and uploaded them to the system within his operations center, having accessibility to all of Umbrella's history and files at his fingertips. He vowed to one day meet Spencer again and succeed him as the one destined to usher in the new future of the world, which Spencer's vision, whatever it had been, failed to accomplish.

Soon after the raid on the Caucasus Facility, Wesker contacted Tricell; another pharmaceutical corporation, and with the wealth of information and resources collected from Umbrella, allowed Tricell to establish a secret bioweapons division, for which Wesker was greatly compensated. He decided to secretly work with them, as they were another valuable asset, and began further independent activities kept secret from his Organization superiors. A particular interest of Wesker was Excella Gionne, an employee of Tricell and descendant of its founders. Her intellect and ambitious nature, matching Wesker's own, caught his eye. He decided that she would serve as a high-level asset, and with his resources provided, he helped her climb through the ranks of Tricell. Excella found Wesker intriguing as well, to the point of romantic attraction. Due to his callous personality, Wesker did not return this affection, seeing Excella as a mere tool. However, he did not outright let her know this, playing along with her to an extent.

Los Illuminados and Las Plagas
“ Our goal is to retrieve the sample. Take out anything that might interfere with our plans... ”

Following the fall of Umbrella, Wesker soon proved to be a problem for his Organization superiors. Wesker had always cherished a desire for power, prominence and domination over others, and, seeing Umbrella as power incarnate, used it to hide behind while he made plans of his own. He established a secret organization of his own, using Umbrella's infrastructure retrieved from the Umbrella Caucasus Research Facility, and began recruiting agents such as Jack Krauser into it. When Umbrella folded, and the sanctuary and protection it provided ruined by the surviving Umbrella leaders' constant power struggles, Wesker decided that bringing his new Umbrella to complete fruition was his most necessary goal. He would need to amass much wealth and resources. In order to achieve this, Wesker planned to go down the list of Umbrella's other top rival corporations, sell them samples of Umbrella's viruses they desired, and finance his personal empire. He would keep this agenda secret from his Organization superiors, though they were suspicious.

Wesker began his plot with TriCell (disguised with the name "S"), who had been interested in acquiring a sample of the newly discovered Las Plagas parasitic organism, preferably an advanced Control Plaga developed by Los Illuminados cult leader, Osmund Saddler. Wesker contacted Tricell and struck the deal. He commissioned Ada Wong, his old partner, to once again aid the field portion of the operation, while Wesker himself remained at his hideout and kept in touch with her via digital video feed. All the while, he contacted her for reports and updates in the objective. Wesker was apparently on a deadline to retrieve the sample, and made it his and Ada's most important goal. He also sent Krauser in to help Ada, though they were at conflict. Krauser thought that Ada would betray Wesker and said that neither of them trusted her, and Ada noted in her report that she wondered if Wesker had sent her to keep an eye on Krauser. Nothing suggests which of the two Wesker trusted more, though he considered them both expendable pawns.

Wesker gave Ada assignments to deal with people in the area, including Luis Sera and Leon S. Kennedy. Luis was a contact of theirs, and he was making attempts from inside the cult to steal the Control Plaga sample. Wesker made it important for Ada to watch over Luis, but he was soon killed by Saddler, and the retrieved sample was lost. Wesker was not concerned, simply saying "There will be another time...", and didn't pity Luis. Wesker also saw Leon as an extra obstacle and ordered Ada to kill him, though she insisted he was of no trouble. She was quite reluctant to carry out Wesker's order, as she had formed a bond with Leon in Raccoon City. When Wesker later asked if she had gotten a chance to kill him, she lied and said the opportunity had not come. Wesker decided to let Leon live for the time being and allowed him to serve as further distraction for Saddler's followers. He later informed Ada of the Illuminados' panic due to Leon's actions, and decided to have Krauser kill Leon instead. Ada saved him, not playing by Wesker's rules.

Ada falsely reported Krauser was dead to Wesker, who found it interesting how easily Leon could avoid death. This implies that Wesker was suspicious of Ada and quite aware that she had let Leon live, and that Krauser was alive as well. He decided to let Leon take care of Saddler himself, and told Ada to eliminate either one still standing when the fight ended. He reminded Ada that he was running the show, and required her to put a halt to whoever could stall their plans, including Leon. Krauser himself was later killed for real by Ada, who said that she didn't want to fill out a large amount of paper work should Krauser return alive. Ada later helped Leon destroy Saddler and stole the sample without killing him, though Wesker may have been aware of this. It was revealed that Ada was not at all loyal to Wesker, but still to the Organization, whom Wesker had gone against. She sent him a false Control Plaga sample on their orders (actually a Modified Subordinate Plaga), and brought them the real sample.

This, however, only stalled Wesker's plans temporarily. Tricell still compensated Wesker greatly for the different sample he provided, as they managed to put it to use. Wesker left the Organization shortly afterwards, apparently no longer needing them. Ever since his faked death, Wesker managed to hide himself in the shadows flawlessly, and it was no trouble for him to avoid his vengeful superiors.

Final encounter with Spencer Edit
“ The right to be a god... That right is now mine. ”
Wesker had built a vast array of wealth and resources, and had obtained a sample of every known parasitic and viral agent. However, Wesker's hunger for power did not allow him to be satisfied with material possessions. In conjunction with this, he continued to be flooded with questions regarding Spencer's true motivations regarding B.O.W's. In 2006, he discovered the whereabouts of Spencer, his European castle, from Ricardo Irving who had been told by Patrick, and arranged a meet with Wesker through Ada. Wesker traveled there on the first, stormy night of autumn to find answers, killing all of Spencer's bodyguards. Wesker, not knowing that Spencer had arranged the location leak, fully expected Spencer to be surprised by his arrival, but much to his shock, the old man seemed to actually expect Wesker to arrive. It was then Wesker realized that Spencer had been in control of everything from the start, including Wesker's own actions. Spencer revealed that the development of B.O.W's was only a part of achieving his goal of forcing human evolution through viruses. With the birth of a superior human race, Spencer would make himself a god. Spencer required three things to accomplish his dream: the Progenitor virus as a primary viral base, the Umbrella Corporation for funds, and people who would share his ideals when an advanced race came to be. Much to the surprise of Wesker, Spencer revealed Wesker to be the result of the third necessity.

In a plan called the Wesker Plan, Spencer collected hundreds of children from parents of superior intellect throughout the world. These children were all given the surname Wesker after the project's chief researcher, and Spencer used indoctrination and manipulation to install his values into these children. They were then put in controlled environments all over the world under Umbrella's watchful eye. These unaware children would continue to live their lives and received advanced education with the help of Umbrella. One of these children was eventually sent to Umbrella's training facility. That child was Albert Wesker. Spencer then gave all the Wesker children an experimental virus, Albert's being received through Birkin. However, all but one of Albert Wesker's "siblings" were killed due to the virus. Albert was the only one who was confirmed alive at that point in time, as the location of Alex Wesker was unknown, as he had betrayed Spencer. Unfortunately, now that the truth was revealed, the only thing impeding Wesker's ascenion to Godhood was an old, dying man. Wesker killed Spencer by thrusting his arm through his chest, claiming the right to be a god was now his. He then released his 'creator' and allowed his body to topple over and bleed onto the floor. He looked down upon the corpse of Umbrella's founder and pondered how arrogant Spencer had been for believing he, a weak old man, could be a god.

Wesker declared that only one with the true capability of being a god could ever deserve that right. Wesker then stood at the window of Spencer's castle and further pondered this new revelation. Spencer's own arrogance manifested into Wesker himself, who decided to carry out his former master's vision of shaping the world with an new and advanced race of humans. Wesker saw that the influence of a pharmaceutical corporation was not true power and insufficient to bring about the godly status he sought. He therefore discarded Umbrella's inferior power and decided to take over the very plan Spencer himself started, with another pharmaceutical company as his base for enacting the plan. Just then, Wesker's old enemies, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, entered Spencer's hiding place. They had been hunting Spencer and Wesker, the last of Umbrella's leadership, under the command of the BSAA, and were given a reliable tip to Spencer's whereabouts. They infiltrated the castle, hoping Spencer would lead them to Wesker, but instead found a dead Spencer with a smiling Wesker. The villain took their sudden arrival as a sign: "The weak would always resist the will of the Chosen." A battle immediately ensued. Using his powers, Wesker overcame the two of them combined, outmatching their gun fire and hand to hand skills.

Tossing aside Jill after she failed to turn a knife on him, Wesker sought his revenge on Chris once and for all. However, before he could deal the finishing blow, Jill sacrificed herself by tackling him out of the window, causing the two of them to fall into the chasm below. The BSAA searched for the bodies for months, but were never successful in recovering them, and the two were marked as deceased. In fact, the two survived and Jill was captured by Wesker. After giving Jill the medical treatment she required, Wesker went back to his alliance with Tricell.

Africa and Tricell Edit
“ A new Genesis is at hand, and I will be the creator! ”
While putting Jill in a cryogenic sleep with the intention of turning her into a weapon against Chris, Wesker continued his activities. Wesker again worked with Tricell, and formed a complete partnership with Excella Gionne, who shared his vision for a new world. Wesker prepared to exact his own variation and perfection of Spencer's plan. He continued to help Excella gain higher positions of power within Tricell, and she soon became the CEO of the entire African division. With this partnership, the old Umbrella Africa Research Center was reopened, along with the source of the Progenitor virus. Wesker used the founder of every single viral agent to create the most powerful virus yet, the Uroboros virus. With Uroboros, he planned to spur the next step in human evolution. Although the virus proved to be too poisonous for humans to be of much use, Wesker found a way to make it less poisonous. In Jill were powerful antibodies that were made from her previous infection with the t-virus. Using these antibodies, Wesker was able to perfect Uroboros to suit his needs. He also commissioned an immense Tricell tanker at a dock built behind the facility. He placed a specialized stealth bomber below the boat's deck, planning to launch it at sea as part of his plan.

Using the newly discovered chemical called P30, Wesker attached a device on Jill's chest that would continuously inject Jill with the chemical. With this, he was able to bend Jill to his will and enhance her abilities. By doing this, not only would Jill continue to assist him and Tricell, but she would also serve as a method of revenge against Chris. At the same time, Wesker began placing the Uroboros virus into missiles with the plan of releasing it by jet into the Earth's atmosphere, causing a global outbreak. While preparations were being made for a large Tricell ocean tanker to take off from the Umbrella facility, Wesker and Gionne waited inside the stronghold, which they added to by digging further into the ground to make the facility bigger over the years. As Progenitor research was continued by Tricell scientists, everything previously owned by Umbrella was branded with the Tricell logo. The pair would also use the newly developed Type 2 Plagas and Type 3 Plagas to create an army of Majini from the natives of Kijuju to serve them, including the Ndipaya Tribe. While Las Plagas had been so successful and had secured Excella's position at Tricell thanks to Wesker, she desired a higher position with more power.

Continuing to show her romantic attraction to Wesker, Excella asked if she had proven herself worthy to be Wesker's partner in ruling the world. Wesker said she may have but coldly turned down her romance. While Excella believed Wesker would be her king in the new world and she would be his queen, Wesker had other thoughts in mind. He saw himself as a god who would share his power with no one, though he did not outright express this to Excella and still went along with her romance to an extent. Eventually, the BSAA would dispatch Chris and his new partner Sheva Alomar to capture and interrogate Ricardo Irving, who had been selling B.O.W.s on the black market and was actually working for Tricell and presumably the one who provided Las Plagas to Wesker and Gionne in the first place. After defeating Irving, Chris and Sheva continued to pursue a mysterious woman who had been helping Irving, unaware it was in fact Jill, disguised in a hooded cloak and bird mask. The brainwashed Jill soon reported to Wesker and Gionne that Chris and Sheva had arrived at the facility. Excella "sensed concern" from Wesker about Chris, but he simply told her he would not accept delay while the plan was nearing its final stages.

Excella left with Jill to deal with Chris and Sheva while Wesker stayed on his own in the facility command room. He pondered all that he had accomplished and remembered back to his encounter with Spencer. Though he had killed his creator, Wesker thanked the dead Spencer for providing him with a greater vision for the future and the means to be the god Spencer could never be. While Excella and Jill went to meet Chris and Sheva, Wesker went to the Monarch Room to wait for them to arrive and prepared for his final battle with Chris, knowing that the agent had much time over the years to train for such an encounter. Gionne introduced the pair to the very virus Tricell had been working on in the form of an advanced creature. While the agents fought off the aggressive monstrosity, Gionne and Jill went back to Wesker and waited with him in the Monarch Room. Eventually, Chris and Sheva would catch up to Excella. After a fight with the cloaked Jill, Wesker came in and described the encounter as "one big family reunion". He told Chris he expected him to be "happier to see us". Chris, confused, had no idea what he meant by "us", and Wesker revealed the hooded woman to be Jill, the one Chris and Sheva had been searching for the whole time.

The mind controlled Jill and the superhuman Wesker fought the pair in a two-on-two battle. Excella left for the dock where the tanker was getting ready to leave, and after seven minutes of his spare time, Wesker recieved a phone call from her. He abandoned the fight to finish his plans, leaving Chris and Sheva to deal with Jill. But Chris and Sheva were able to remove the device from Jill's chest and free her from Wesker's control. Leaving Jill at her insistence, they chased the two onto the carrier ship. Wesker would soon betray Excella, infecting her with Uroboros, which killed her. After Chris and Sheva defeated the monstrosity that resulted, they received a call from Jill. According to Jill, Wesker needed to inject a special serum, PG67A/W (A Progenitor-based solution) into himself in order to keep the virus inside of him stable. If too much was injected, it would weaken him. In a previous encounter with Gionne, Sheva had obtained vials of the serum which Gionne had dropped from an open briefcase. With this new knowledge, Chris and Sheva confronted Wesker in a hanger below the deck which contained Wesker's bomber jet. Chris realized that Wesker intended to release Uroboros into the atmosphere using this jet.

They fought through the last of Wesker's Majini forces and confronted him on a platform as he overlooked the jet, savoring that his plans were all falling into place. Throwing the two onto the ground below the jet, Wesker prepared for the final battle as the hanger rose up to the deck of the ship, almost ready to launch the jet. As he engaged the two, Wesker revealed his plan to rule over the newly created world as a god. Working together, Chris and Sheva managed to insert the serum into Wesker, taking advantage of the darkness by turning off the lights around the platform. Weakened, but not defeated, Wesker fled on board the jet, but Chris and Sheva managed to board it before it took off. In a tense battle, they fought Wesker as the jet continued to fly higher into the sky. Tossing Chris aside, Wesker pulled out a hidden 92F pistol and shot at Sheva while she took cover behind a metal pillar. Chris shot at Wesker as he walked toward him, but Wesker used his concentration and reflexes to dodge Chris' fire and shoot at Sheva at the same time, gloating that his plans would soon create his new world. He then aimed his Samurai Edge at Chris, having saved the handgun after his time in S.T.A.R.S. as a devious way to kill his former comrade.

With serum in hand however, Chris and Sheva were now more evenly matched against Wesker, and he was injected by an enraged Chris, who said that he was "just another one of Umbrella's leftovers". Chris managed to open the jet's underside hatch, causing the jet to lose pressure and crash inside an active volcano. Miraculously, Chris and Sheva survived the crash, but Wesker, who had survived as well, wasn't finished yet. He revealed himself again to the duo when walking out to the front of the crashed bomber's roof, his coat and shirt completely removed. He stated he should have killed Chris years ago, to which his nemesis said that was his mistake and that his plans were over. With a menacing chuckle, Wesker walked forward further while saying "Over?... I'm just getting started!" He then turned to a damaged Uroboros missile and smashed into it with his fist. He then deliberately absorbed his creation, and seemed to have a great deal of control over its infection of him.

Transformation and death
Wesker used Uroboros in a last ditch effort to kill his nemesis. The tendrils wrapped around several shards of metal and circuitry before spreading to most of Wesker's upper body, giving him a large, deadly, tentacle like appedange. Endowed by the virus, Wesker attacked Chris and Sheva, all the while exaggerating about natural selection, superior DNA, war and pestilence, and his loathe of the current state of the human race. All of this demonstrated that Wesker's calm, collected, and refined exterior had been completely dissolved, along with the last of his sanity. He made repeated attempts to kill both Chris and Sheva, swinging his large arm in a deadly circular manner and lobbing projectiles forged from his tentacles at both of them while they were separated by the breaking ground of the volcano. After taking much fire from Chris, Wesker's other arm succumbed to the growing infection rate of Uroboros and was also absorbed by the virus. Despite this, he somehow managed to keep the rest of his body intact. Eventually, the fight came to the last surviving platform at the center of the lava river. With a feral shout of Chris' name, Wesker jumped to the platform and prepared for the final portion of the conflict. Wesker was then engaged in battle as both Sheva and Chris impaled him on both parts of his weak points.

However, despite his incredible powers, Wesker was held off by Chris and Sheva, until the ground gave way from under him, causing Wesker to fall into the lava. While Wesker screamed in pain, a helicopter piloted by Jill and Josh Stone came in to rescue Chris and Sheva. They barely managed to climb the ladder Jill threw to them as the ground under them also gave up and sank into the lava. When they were safely aboard, they looked down upon the sinking Wesker, who became enraged and shouted Chris' name for one last time. Refusing to acknowledge his own mortality, and obsessed with killing Chris Redfield, he used his tentacle-consumed left arm to grab hold of the helicopter and viciously tugged at it in hopes of taking them with him. However, Chris and Sheva fired a pair of RPG-7 rockets at him as he screamed in anger and pain. The rockets went straight through his head, decapitating him, and the resulting explosion sent out a wave of lava that rocked the helicopter and consumed Wesker's mutated remains. Albert Wesker, the diabolical villain hell-bent on world domination, was finally gone forever, and Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine were free of his influence once and for all.

Appearances
Originally a supporting character in the first Resident Evil, Wesker appeared in the game as the captain of the S.T.A.R.S. unit and leader of its Alpha team division. Wesker disappeared early in the game and only makes one sporadic appearance through the course of the story. Near the end of the game, the player (as either Chris or Jill) discovers that Wesker is a double agent working for Umbrella and either witnesses the death of Wesker at the hands of the Tyrant (in nearly all the endings) or finds his decapitated body inside the power generator next to the self-destruct module (in Jill's best ending in the original version). It should be noted, however, that in the remake of Resident Evil for the GameCube, Jill's best ending allows Wesker to escape completely, as his body is not found in the Power Room.

Wesker made a surprise return in Resident Evil - CODE: Veronica, having been revived with new superpowers and apparently working for one of Umbrella's competitors. He later appeared as a supporting character in Resident Evil 0 and an incidental role in Resident Evil 4 (which is explored further in the PlayStation 2 and Wii version, due to the inclusion of the Separate Ways scenario and Ada's Report). He was also the narrator of the fictional documentary, Wesker's Report, a DVD which covers the events of the previous installments and was released as pre-order bonus with Resident Evil Code: Veronica X (an updated version of the original Code: Veronica). It was followed by an Internet sequel, titled Wesker's Report II.

From both Wesker Reports, it is learned that Wesker is a Machiavellian schemer who's had a hand in the events of nearly all the games in the series, except Resident Evil: Survivor and Resident Evil: Dead Aim, where the entire scenarios were created by rogue operatives outside of Wesker's control. Although his physical presence is not constant and indeed quite rare, the effects of his plans can be visibly seen in almost every game of the series.

In Umbrella Chronicles we further explore how Wesker survived and escaped the mansion incident during the final moments before the explosion. As he narrates a series of events that happened with his involvement in the games we learn how he helped Ada escape Raccoon City as well as how he managed to sieze control of the Umbrella Corporation.

Albert Wesker was the main antagonist within Resident Evil 5, in which the truth of his upbringing, and the extent of his connection to Ozwell E. Spencer is revealed by Spencer himself. He also serves as the final opponent for Chris and Sheva in a three-part boss battle. He also appears in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles in a flashback of Code: Veronica and during the end of Operation Javier, where he is seen peering below at Javier's body through binoculars.

Abilities
Before injecting himself with the Virus that Birkin gave him, Wesker was already skilled at Martial Arts, with his cold blooded attitude Wesker showed no sign of fear and was able to defend himself against a horde of Zombies and Tyrants (Ivan and T-001). Wesker injected himself with the virus and let himself get killed by the T-002. As a result of his viral injection, Wesker was granted a number of superhuman abilities, essentially becoming Umbrella's most powerful Tyrant. Wesker demonstrated incredible speed, reflexes, agility and strength, and it is very possible that he took great pleasure in showing off his power to intimidate his foes. These attributes gave him a number of advanced combat capabilities. Notable achievements of his heightened physical abilities included being capable of dodging bullets at practically point blank range with minimal effort (including rapidfire or multiple shot weapons), being able to cover great distances in short time, performing short dashes of speed faster than the normal human brain could process (causing him to appear to be teleporting), and being able to jump great heights. Ironically, his own serum was also his greatest weakness, overdoses of the serum would cause him to be weakened.

Notable achievements of his increased strength included being able to lift large missiles with one hand and throwing them, lifting large steel girders off his body, lifting an adult human off the ground with one hand effortlessly, thrusting straight through the chest of a person with his fingertips, killing a chimera B.O.W. with just one kick, and sending someone flying with a single backhand swipe. The injection also gave Wesker a low-level rapid healing factor which, coupled with his incredible endurance, rendered him nearly invincible to conventional damage. A rocket exploding right in his hands was only sufficient to weaken him for a moment, and thousands of pounds of steel falling a few stories on top of him failed to even incapacitate him, merely dazing him for a few brief seconds, and despite having his face hideously burned at close range, he quickly healed up.

With these powers, Wesker mainly did not require weaponry other than his brute strength during combat, combined with a sufficient strategy and some meticulous observation. Even though he was skilled at martial arts, he did keep his handgun holstered at all times, and was known to never let his guard down, even outside the battlefield. Still, Wesker's arrogance and superiority complex over his enemies would lead to his downfall.

Gameplay
Wesker was an unlockable character in the Battle Mode featured in Resident Evil Code: Veronica, as well as in the "Mercenaries" mini-games for Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. A (non-canonical) "zombified" version of Wesker also appeared as an enemy in the bonus Battle Mode featured in the Saturn version of the original game. In Umbrella Chronicles, Wesker is playable in unlockable chapters that further delve into his involvement behind-the-scenes.

Resident Evil - CODE: Veronica Edit
In Resident Evil - CODE: Veronica, Wesker follows the tradition of the villain getting only a knife in the minigame just like Tofu and UBCS operative Nicholai Ginovaef. Wesker's run is quite challenging, but he has incredible stamina and very damaging knife attacks to cover for this. He later has the option of getting a Magnum out of a slot machine for the upcoming boss fight, but gets no additional ammunition for it so its use must be highly regulated. Sometimes the slot machine will give Wesker a file instead of the Magnum, leaving the player to fight the boss with nothing more than the knife and their own wits. It should be noted that this file does not help in the player in the least, as it is just a diary of the mouse Claire encountered in the main game.

Resident Evil 4 Edit
In the Resident Evil 4 minigame the Mercenaries, Wesker is considerably better equipped and capable of destruction. He starts with all 3 types of grenades (4 frag, 3 flash and 1 incendiary), a moderately upgraded Killer7, a fully upgraded standard handgun with a silencer not seen anywhere else in the game, an almost fully upgraded semi-automatic rifle without the enhanced scope, and a first aid spray. His stamina is the same as Leon's. He also has some of the most powerful melee attacks in the game (a "thrust punch" that can strike several enemies with titanic force and a "chikyo chagi" axe kick that can crush an enemy's head). While his starting inventory is strong, it does have 2 downsides: firstly, there is little room for anything else in the inventory, and secondly, Wesker starts with no reserve ammunition for any of his weapons. Despite the lack of extra ammunition, Wesker can easily take on any foe. The Killer7 Magnum allows him to kill strong foes such as the Garrador, and the fearsome Super-Salvador. The rifle is immensely powerful and is virtually a one hit kill weapon against all normal enemies, and the player can find ample ammunition for it. The pistol, though not a greatly effective weapon on its own, enables Wesker to stun enemies to allow for his immensely powerful special attacks. When an enemy is stunned by a headshot, Wesker is able to perform the "Thrust Punch" attack, which deals heavy damage (enough to generally be considered an instant kill) to the target and all other enemies directly in front of Wesker. Although the Thrust Punch is powerful and resourceful, it make take a couple seconds for a kill to be recognized (if the enemy wasn't damaged enough before using it), and has the potential of ending a combo. Shooting foes in the knees may also allow for Wesker's "chikyo chagi" axe kick, which will crush the head of the target while also damaging nearby enemies as well as kill any fallen enemies in it's radius. The handgun also has a decapitation rate that is five times greater than normal, rarely allowing the Las Plagas to show themselves; a useful feature. Wesker does not have a knife, thus he cannot simply slash an enemy to perform a melee move.

Resident Evil: Deadly Silence Edit
In Resident Evil: Deadly Silence, the Nintendo DS version of the first Resident Evil, Wesker is a playable character in the game's multiplayer mode. He is unlockable by completing the Master of Knifing minigame once with either Jill or Chris. In the multiplayer mode, he wields a specialized version of the Samurai Edge handgun.

Resident Evil 5
Wesker is a playable character in Resident Evil 5, and has a whole new barrage of martial arts to employ on his unlucky adversaries. He comes in his "Midnight" and "S.T.A.R.S." outfits, and he is outfitted with an H&K P8, S&W M500, Grenades, Proximity Bomb, and ammunition in his first outfit, and his Samurai Edge, Lightning Hawk, and Hydra, as well as ammo in his second. These are his attacks in Resident Evil 5.

Position Attack Strength
Head Cobra Strike High
Arm (Front) Panther Fang Low
Arm (Back) Jaguar Kick Low
Leg (Front) Tiger Uppercut Medium
Leg (Back) Mustang Kick Medium-High
Grounded Windfall High (Head Critical)
Combo Finisher Ghost Butterfly Extreme
Combo Finisher Rhino Charge Extreme
Grapple Breaker Ram Horn Low
Dashing Knee Cannon High
Dashing Collide Low

His Windfall is similar to Chikyo Chagi, his leg drop/axe kick move from Resident Evil 4, and his Cobra Strike is akin to the lethal killing Thrust Punch from Resident Evil 4. Wesker has an easier time instant killing enemies in Mercenaries due to his Cobra Strike, which only needs a headshot or Flash Grenade to enable. His Windfall also deals a high damage. His magnum will kill the Big Man Majini and Reaper in one shot, the latter if on the weak spot, and in some cases it will also down weaker bosses like Giant Majini in one hit. However, players should be wary of damage, as he does not start the mission with a healing item. He also has a dash move accessible through clicking the movement stick as well as the ability to use Knee Cannon chained off of dash. However, health is depleted during the use of the dash function. Getting an A rank on "The Mines" unlocks "Midnight", While getting an A rank on "Prison" unlocks "S.T.A.R.S".

Wardrobe
Wesker wears a different outfit for each of his appearances, but they are always black. He always keeps his trademark sunglasses, even in situations that seem inappropriate, such as during S.T.A.R.S. operations in the middle of the night. In Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0, he wears a standard S.T.A.R.S. uniform similar to those of Chris and Barry, but completely black, with a navy blue under-shirt. He wears a more streamlined outfit in Resident Evil Code: Veronica with the acronyms H.C.F (Hive/Host Capture Force) written on the back. During a fist-fight with Chris Redfield, his sunglasses are knocked from his face, revealing that his eyes have changed from normal human eyes to slitted eyes with a red-orange hue. He wears a different, more sophisticated outfit during his appearance in Resident Evil 4 and the Dark Legacy levels in Umbrella Chronicles, sporting a black turtle-neck sweatshirt, black trousers and jacket over his turtle neck, as well as black gloves. In Resident Evil 5, his attire becomes more sinister and supports a leather trench coat with black leather boots, gloves, pants and a short sleeve shirt all complete with his trademark sunglasses.

Albert Wesker appeared in the 2007 film Resident Evil: Extinction, portrayed by actor Jason O'Mara. In the film continuity, he was the chairman of Umbrella, holding regular meetings from his office in Tokyo via hologram, and heading the Umbrella Commitee. He was constantly at odds with Dr. Isaacs, whose obsession with Project Alice threatened to compromise his appointed task: domesticating the undead. If his work did not show signs of improving, Wesker threatened to replace the doctor with someone more capable. Dr. Isaacs was not perturbed however, and continued to create enhanced zombies to hunt down and capture Alice, an operation that resulted in him being bitten by one of his creations. Having disobeyed direct orders and forged Wesker's authorization, the chairman ordered that he be "liquidated" immediately.

Isaacs' advanced infection transformed him into the first Tyrant however, and he killed everyone inside the Nevada facility. After Isaacs' death at her hands, Alice interrupted a conference between Wesker and the other facility leaders and promised him that she intended to come after him, and she'd be bringing her "friends" (her clones) along with her.

Resident Evil: Afterlife
“ You've really become quite an inconvenience for me. ”

In the movie, Alice and her clones attack the Umbrella Headquaters in Tokyo and kill everyone in the facility. When alerted to the assault, Wesker orders that all upper levels be flooded with nerve gas to stem the tide of the clones, despite the many men who were still locked in combat with them. When a security officer points this out to him, Wesker simply shoots him with his Desert Eagle. Two clones are killed during an aerial assault on Wesker's command pod, both of them by his hands; one shot through the head mid fall, the other shot repeatedly in the chest at close range. The second died with two unpinned grenades in her hand, creating an explosion that badly burns Wesker and forces him to retreat to a helicopter to escape.

As he does, the clones try to shoot it down but its hull is bulletproof. As he ascends, Wesker activates a "Purge" bomb that destroys the facility and part of Tokyo and kills all of the clones. The real Alice is onboard the helicopter however and holds a gun to his head, demanding he say his last words. Instead, Wesker quickly injects Alice with a serum that destroys the "t" cells in her body and renders her powerless. Wesker reveals that he has injected himself with the T-Virus too and displays super-human strength and speed, similar to Alice's former powers and easily overpowers her. Seconds from certain death, Alice thanks him for making her human again before the unpiloted helicopter crashes into a mountainside, seemingly killing Wesker but allowing Alice to climb out alive.

However, Wesker's new powers enable him to regenerate from his injuries and revive and he heads to the Umbrella ship Arcadia where he takes command and uses Umbrella's remaining satellites to track Alice. After sending The Executioner to kill her, Alice makes her way to the Arcadia in Los Angeles Harbor and discovers over 2000 humans held in stasis for testing. Upon releasing the survivors, Alice discovers two pods drenched in blood and follows a blood trail to Wesker who calls in two Plaga zombie dogs and an armed necrosing Bennett to hold her at bay. Wesker explains that the t-virus is starting to overtake him and believes that eating fresh human tissue will keep it at bay, which is why the Arcadia crew abandoned ship three days prior.

Wesker believes that feasting on Alice, who had adapted to the t-virus so well, will allow him to gain full control over himself. Alice tells him that she is "off the menu" and kicks a tray full of knives at Wesker, who dodges all but one, which grazes his right cheek. Before Wesker can retaliate he is stopped by Claire and Chris Redfield, prompting Alice to remind him that she promised to "bring a few friends with me" when she came to face him. Wesker removes his sunglasses, revealing his red cat-like eyes, and remarks "You should have brought more". Wesker battles Chris and Claire, but his super-strength and speed are too much for them and he traps them in holding tanks before turning back to Alice who has killed the dogs and disarmed Bennett.

Wesker produces several Plaga-like tentacles from his mouth and prepares to eat her, but she stabs a knife into his head, temporarily stunning him. Alice tries to retrieve her shotgun to finish the job, but Bennett gets there first but is stopped by K-Mart who knocks him out and tosses Alice the shotgun. Alice shoots Wesker in the head with it, blowing a huge hole in his skull, but not killing him due to his incredible regenerative abilities. Alice then frees Claire and Chris who unload their pistols into him, but he still survives and is trapped in the room with Bennett. Wesker regenerates from his wounds and kills (and presumably eats) Bennett before making his way to another chopper to escape. As he does, he activates another bomb that was placed on the Arcadia before discovering that Alice hid it on his chopper. The bomb detonates, destroying the helicopter.

Wesker's fate is uncertain as a parachute is seen in the distance falling away from the destruction.

George Romero's Resident Evil Script Edit
When Resident Evil was being considered for the basis of a film, George A. Romero and Paul W. S. Anderson competed for production rights with their scripts. In Romero's script, Wesker was not the captain of S.T.A.R.S., but instead a colonel. Though, he remains a double agent like in the games.

Lost Planet 2
As of November 17, 2009, Gamestop has announced an exclusive bonus item regarding its reservation. Said item is an Wesker skin with his revolver. This doesn't means he actually has a role, it's just a skin for game appearance.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds
Albert Wesker was unveiled as a playable character along with Spider-Man at the Tokyo Game Show 2010, appearing in his Resident Evil 5 attire. He has been shown using martial arts, his Samurai Edge and the ability to "teleport", and also a variation of the Ghost Butterfly and the Rhino Charge in which the Rhino Charge is a Hyper Combo. In one of his Hyper Combos, Wesker attacks the opponent with very fast hit while "teleporting" from one side to the other, and at the end he launches a missle, similar to the second time you fight Wesker in Resident Evil 5 (where if you waited too long he will start to launch missiles at Chris Redfield or Sheva Alomar). His rival in this game appears to be Spider-Man, since both characters acquired super human strength through genetic manipulation (radioactive spider bite, and virus injection respectively), both have very fast reflexes and have a lot of stamina. He is also one of the few characters to have a counter move.

Trivia
■Wesker is the character with the most appearances throughout the Resident Evil series. He appeared in Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil - CODE: Veronica, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Resident Evil 5, and has a cameo in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles during the CODE: Veronica scenario. One could say he appears in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis as the picture in the S.T.A.R.S. office, but not as an actual character.
■Wesker is the thirteenth Wesker child, the number which believed to be associated with bad luck. Coincidentally, he was the very person responsible for ensuring Umbrella's downfall.
■In the Darkside Chronicles, during one of the endings Wesker's irises and pupils are seen blue and normal instead of red and cat-like, this could either be a production error or that Wesker was able to control the color of his irises and pupils.
■IGN.com cited Wesker as number three on their list of "10 Most Memorable Villains", claiming that "Res Evil fans know that whenever Wesker shows up, trouble isn't far behind." [17]
■Wesker also appeared on another of IGN's lists entitled "Top 100 Videogame Villains" as number fourteen.
■In Resident Evil 5 Mercenaries, and Versus Mode, Wesker has a move known as the "Tiger Uppercut", named after a move used by Sagat, as well as one called the "Jaguar Kick", named after a move used by Adon, Sagat's former student. Both characters are from Capcom's Street Fighter franchise.
■Wesker is a playable character in the game Marvel vs Capcom 3.

Behind where I looked back; (Who’s in the front?)
In the dark, I raised my claws (and slashed apart the night)

The raindrops turn into droplets of blood and travel down my cheeks
If there’s no place for me to return to anywhere anymore

Take these fingers, my fingers
I’ll take you away with that finger
To the unopenable forest where cicadas cry
I can’t turn back anymore

Being made to disappear one by one; (the blue flames)
On the other side of the dark, (the morning won’t come anymore)

Inside the mirror, with countless wriggling and stretching hands
Come on, lure someone here

Oni-san, come here, to where my hands clap
No matter how you’ll get away, I’ll capture you
From the animal trail where cicadas cry
The voice that I heard is no more

Take these fingers, my fingers
I’ll take you away with that finger
To the unopenable forest where cicadas cry
I can’t turn back anymore

Oni-san, come here, to where my hands clap
No matter how you’ll get away, I’ll capture you

[edit] History
FUNimation was founded in 1994 in Fort Worth, Texas, by Gen Fukunaga.[2] Fukunaga's uncle was one of the producers for the popular anime series Dragon Ball Z; he approached Gen about bringing the series over to America. If Fukunaga could start a company and raise enough money, Toei Animation would license the rights to the show. So Gen went to a coworker named Daniel Cocanougher whose family owned a feed mill in Decatur, Texas and convinced the Cocanougher family to sell their business and invest in creating a production company. With that, FUNimation was established. By 1998, after two failed attempts to bring the Dragon Ball franchise to a U.S. audience, it finally found success on Cartoon Network's action-oriented programming block Toonami, and the Dragon Ball phenomenon quickly grew in the United States as it had elsewhere. This led Funimation to begin licensing other anime to the U.S.

On May 11, 2005, Funimation was acquired by Navarre Corporation for US$100.4 million in cash and 1.8 million shares of Navarre stock. As part of the acquisition, the president Fukunaga was retained as head of the company, transitioning to the position of CEO, and the company's name was changed from Funimation Productions to Funimation Entertainment.[3][4]

In 2007 Funimation moved from North Richland Hills, Texas to Flower Mound; the standalone Flower Mound facility has double the square footage of the space Funimation occupied previous North Richland Hills facility; in the North Richland Hills facility Funimation shared the building with other tenants.[1] Funimation moved into the Lakeside Business District with a ten year lease.[5]

According to an interview in February 2008 with Navarre Corporation CEO Cary Deacon, Funimation was in early stage negotiations to acquire some of the titles licensed through Geneon's USA division, which ceased operations in December 2007.[6] In July 2008, Funimation confirmed that they had acquired distribution rights to several Geneon titles, including some that Geneon had left unfinished when they ceased operations.[7]

At Anime Expo 2008, Funimation announced that it had acquired over 30 titles from the Sojitz catalog that had previously been licensed by ADV Films.[8]

[edit] Reaction to fansubbing
In 2005, Funimation's legal department began to pursue a more aggressive approach toward protecting their licensed properties, and started sending "cease and desist" (C&D) letters to sites offering links to fansubs of their titles. This move was similar to that taken by the now-defunct ADV Films several years before with several of the major torrent sites.

Funimation's legal department served C&D letters for series that had not yet been advertised or announced as licensed, including Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Black Cat, and Solty Rei, with a few known series also mentioned in the letter.[9] Funimation revealed more licenses on 6 October 2006 when it sent letters to torrent sites demanding that distribution of xxxHolic's TV series, Mushishi, Ragnarok the Animation, and other series cease.[10]

[edit] Potential sale
In the first quarter of 2010, Navarre Corporation reclassified Funimation as "discounted operations" and began preparations to sell the company.[11] However, they announced it's structuring and negotiating a potential transaction for the sale of FUNimation Entertainment. There can be no assurances that this process will result in the consummation of a transaction. [12] Later that year, Navarre held a number of shareholders meeting and announced that the company "received six indications of interest" from possible buyers of Funimation. [13] Navarre expects that final offers will be made but it cannot guarantee that these offers will lead to a transaction. [14]

[edit] Foreign distribution
Funimation does not directly release its properties in non-U.S. (English language-speaking) markets, instead sublicensing to other companies such as Revelation Films in the United Kingdom and Madman Entertainment in Australia and New Zealand.

Towards the end of 2005, Fullmetal Alchemist (along with Beez Entertainment's Wolf's Rain) became one of the flagship programs on the relaunch of satellite channel Rapture TV and had only one edit, that of changing the opening to "Ready Steady Go" (the second opening), instead of the few minor edits the show received for its Adult Swim airings. YuYu Hakusho has also been acquired for television broadcast in the UK. However, it has not been announced who has picked it up and who the intended audience is.

[edit] Funimation Channel
Main article: Funimation Channel
Funimation Entertainment with OlympuSAT launched the FUNimation Channel, the second 24 hour anime digital cable network in North America (the first being A.D. Vision's Anime Network). OlympuSAT is the exclusive distributor and the Funimation Channel is now available to video service providers.
Since its launch in September 2005, FUNimation Channel has expanded into more homes and continues to expand via digital cable, fiber optics, and DBS systems.
When the channel first launched, it was available to a few cities via UHF digital signals.[15] The service was temporary as the channel was trying to gain a foothold in the already crowded digital cable landscape. Another short-term service was the syndication of a FUNimation Channel block to one of OlympuSAT’s affiliate networks – Colours TV.[16] Both services were discontinued in favor for a more successful expansion on digital cable, fiber optics and DBS systems.

[edit] Alternative distribution
In July 2008, Funimation and Red Planet Media announced the launch of a mobile video-on-demand service for AT&T and Sprint mobile phone subscribers.[17] Three titles were part of the launch, Gunslinger Girl, Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase, and Galaxy Railways, with entire seasons of each made available.

On September 19, 2006, Funimation created an official channel on YouTube where they upload advertisements for box sets, as well as clips and preview episodes of their licensed series. In September 2008, they began distributing full episodes of series at Hulu.[18] In December of the same year, Funimation added a video section to their main website with preview episodes of various series. In April 2009, they began distributing full episodes of series at Veoh.[19][20] Full episodes are also available on the YouTube channel.

—Dissidia Final Fantasy Summon Compendium

Chocobos (チョコボ Chokobo) are a recurring race of avian mounts from many of the Final Fantasy games, first appearing as early as Final Fantasy II. They are often used as transportation around the world in a method that keeps random encounters away and increases land speed. Chocobos are used as replacements for the real-world horses (horses appear rarely in the series most of the time as monsters or in summons), serving nearly all the functions horses perform in our world. For example they are used by Final Fantasy cavalry, called Chocobo Knights. Though they are used in the same way as horses, they are biologically considered birds, being born from eggs, covered in feathers, and possessing wings. Several games in the series claim that chocobos have an odor that is mildly offensive. However, according to Final Fantasy XII, they can be rid of their musk by being fed Gysahl Greens regularly.

The Chocobo have come in many different colors; though most chocobos are yellow, there are blue, green, brown, red, black, white and gold ones as well. There have also been numerous minigames and events involving the avian species, including Chocobo Racing, Chocobo Ranches, Chocobo Hot and Cold and Chocobo Stables. They have been known to have various cries throughout the series. The earliest games had them crying "Cooc Cooc", the mid-series games had them crying "Wark", and the newest games have them crying "Kweh".

Though Chocobos are usually friendly, they are occasionally found as wild enemies no different to any other, for example in the Ivalice games.

Musical Theme Chocobo's Theme
Its first appearance in Final Fantasy II prompted the creation of its own music theme. Though it was first known as Chocobo's Theme, the title and genre of the theme differs with each game, though the basic rhythm is retained. The naming frequently states the musical style in which the theme is arranged, followed by the French/Spanish/Portuguese preposition de, meaning "of", and ending with "Chocobo".

Main Series Appearances
Final Fantasy
Some of the statues in Castle Cornelia's throne room resemble Chocobos in the GBA and the PSP releases.

Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy II marks the first appearance of the chocobo, and it can only be found in the forest south of Kashuan Keep. It retreats to the forest immediately after being dismounted, and is therefore chiefly used as a quick escape to Bafsk from Kashuan and nearby areas.

Yoshitaka Amano's original artwork for the Chocobo was wildly different from what would become the recurring design of the creature.

Final Fantasy III
Fat Chocobo stores items when given a Gysahl Green. He can only be summoned in places that smell of Chocobo.

Chocobos can be found in several Chocobo forests and ridden around the world map and in several parts of Saronia. There is even a small side quest involving riding a Chocobo around the Floating Continent.

A Chocobo can also be summoned, learned from the Level 1 Summon Magic spell "Escape". Its two summoning actions are:

Chocobo Dash: allows the party to escape battle.
Chocobo Kick: deals damage based on the difference in level between target and caster.

Final Fantasy IV
"The Noble Chocobo...Fleet of foot, at least when fleeing, he is of an undeniably charming character."
—Eidolon Library

Chocobos can be found in Chocobo Forests situated throughout the world. They come in several varieties. The regular Chocobos can be used to travel around the world normally. They run away after each dismount. White Chocobos recover the MP of the entire party when they are approached. The Black Chocobo, found only in the forest north of Troia, is a flying chocobo, however, it can only land in forests. Black Chocobos do not run away after a dismount, however, when they are mounted for the second time, they always fly back to the forest near Troia. Finally, there is a Fat Chocobo who serves many roles. In order for the Fat Chocobo to appear, the party must use a Carrot, or in other versions, Gysahl Greens at a place where it "Smells like Chocobos!" The Chocobo also appears as a Summon for Rydia.

Final Fantasy V
Bartz Klauser owns Boco, arguably the most famous Chocobo in the series. Boco is left behind at the Pirates' Cove for most of the game, however, upon reaching the Third World, Boco rejoins Bartz and apparently got married with a Chocobo called Koko and had children with her. Bartz can then ride Boco around the world. Boco does not run away upon dismounting. There are several side quests involving Boco.

The Black Chocobo appears in this game as well, and plays a similar role to the Black Chocobo in Final Fantasy IV. It can only land in forests, however, it can also fly over mountains that are not capped in snow. Bartz and his friends ride a Black Chocobo after the Steamship is sucked under the water during an earthquake at Crescent. The Black Chocobo can be found again in Mirage Village in the Third World, and is needed to reach the Phoenix Tower and the North Mountains.

A Chocobo can be used as a Level 1 Summon in this game as well. Sometimes a Fat Chocobo will appear in the summon.

In the ending of the game, Bartz, Faris, and Lenna ride chocobos, while Krile rides the dragon.

Final Fantasy VI
Chocobos can be rented in various towns and stables located around the world. The stables are hidden in forests, making them the equivalent of Chocobo Forests in this game. They run away after each dismount. Setzer Gabbiani has a Slot called Chocobop, which summons Chocobos into battle. Strago and Relm can also equip a piece of armor called the Chocobo Suit. Jidoor's Auction House also likes to auction a Chocobo they claim can speak, although the player can never confirm nor deny this; an old man and his son always place the winning bid on this particular item.

Final Fantasy VII
Chocobos can be caught in monster battles by defeating all enemies except the Chocobo itself, and must be done so by feeding it greens to prevent it from running away from the battle. After acquiring the Highwind, the player can keep chocobos, and even transport one on the Junon Cargo Ship. It is possible to breed chocobos to generate different colored ones. The different breeds of Chocobo allow the player to travel across different terrain. In order, they are: Yellow, Green/Blue, Black and Gold. There are four Materia Caves that can only be reached with each type of chocobo. There are also chocobo races at the Gold Saucer. These are different colors from the normal chocobo's including pink and white. In addition, there is a Summon Materia that can be found early on in the game, which summons Choco/Mog. The summon can sometimes attack with Fat Chocobo.

Final Fantasy VIII
Chocobos are found primarily in Chocobo Forests and are captured to ride across the land and over shallow water. Final Fantasy VIII introduces the concept of juvenile chocobos; known as Chicobos. There are many sidequests involving chicobos, especially one chicobo named Boco that the player acquires as his own. There is also a Chicobo and Fat Chocobo card used for the Triple Triad card game. The minigame Chocobo World, which can be played on a PocketStation, a device sold exclusively in Japan, unlocks certain items in the game and features Boco as its primary protagonist and Koko as the love interest.

Final Fantasy IX
A single Chocobo named Choco is ride-able and is found in Chocobo Forest in Final Fantasy IX. And after meeting him once he can be summoned from any location with chocobo tracks. This game features a sidequest called Chocobo Hot and Cold, which involves Choco searching for buried treasure such as Chocographs which reveal the position of buried treasure. Choco can learn new abilities if the player finds specific treasures which permit entry into Chocobo's Dream World where Fat Chocobo gives him a new ability upon each visit. As the player progresses in this sidequest Chocobo's Lagoon, Chocobo's Air Garden and Chocobo's Paradise become accessible.

Two Black Mages also raise a Chocobo Egg in their hut in the Black Mage Village. When it hatches they name it "Bobby Corwen", and they love him as if the bird was their own child.

There is also a Chocobo in the underground laboratory in the village of Dali which is used to power a machine producing Black Mages.

There is a concept art for Final Fantasy IX about a vehicle called Chocobo Copter, operated by eight Chocobos. But it is never seen in finished game.

Final Fantasy X
Chocobos are widespread throughout Spira, mainly used for transportation as they are well known for. The Crusaders use chocobos for their Chocobo Knights which they use when they fight Sin. Chocobos power ships, and provide safe transportation along the Mi'ihen Highroad. They only appear in one color, yellow, and can be obtained by renting one from a chocobo stable, or from talking to a chocobo breeder in the Calm Lands, and taking three training exercises, including a chocobo race. Chocobos are needed to gain Tidus' Celestial Weapon, the Caladbolg. The chocobo races at Remiem Temple allow the player to obtain the key item, the Cloudy Mirror, which is required to activate the Celestial Weapons.

Final Fantasy XI
In the online incarnation of Final Fantasy, Chocobos are one of the faster forms of alternative transportation, as rental Chocobos are two times faster than walking, while player-bred Chocobos can run slower or faster based on how they were raised. However to ride one the player originally had to rent one from a Chocobo Stable, and only able to rent after obtaining a Chocobo License from a mini-quest. Players are also able to take part in the Chocobo Hot and Cold minigames where the player can use their Chocobo mounts in search of buried treasure.

Square added Chocobo Raising and Breeding as a part of the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion. Players can raise their own Chocobo to have different strengths and weaknesses which were put to use in Chocobo Racing.

Final Fantasy XII
Chocobos are a common sight in Final Fantasy XII. The yellow Chocobo is the tamed one and can be rented for transportation from Gurdy at most towns based on the ground of Ivalice. Some appear in the background of various areas, including on top of the airship. The yellow Chocobos allow players to ride them, provided that the player feed them their stock of Gysahl Greens. There are also other colored Chocobos that can be fought in the wilds of Ivalice; most notably in the color black. These come in red, black, brown, green and white varieties. There is also a rare variant of black Chocobo, a powerful red variant, and even a white Chocobo recognized as Mark.

Characters can ride a Chocobo for a maximum of 180 seconds before it drops the character. Chocobos have the ability to access special paths that player characters cannot cross on their own. These special paths have Chocobo tracks on the ground. Some story elements of the game require characters to use a Chocobo, and in those situations, they are free of charge. Riding a chocobo allows the character to cross maps faster without being harassed by enemies.

The yellow Chocobo, when ridden into Ozmone Plains, will appear in the bestiary once the party disembarks.

A Chocobo's sprite is added to the Sky Pirate's Den after the party has walked over 50,000 steps, granting the player with the title of Wayfarer.

Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
Chocobos are Rank I melee summon, and the fastest summon in the game. Chocobos can also be encountered as enemies. Different colored Chocobos have different skills, although the player can only summon the yellow one. Trickster is the most powerful Chocobo in the game.

Final Fantasy XIII
There are two varieties of Chocobos in the game, one on Gran Pulse and one on Cocoon. The character Sazh Katzroy has a Cocoon Chocobo Chick that lives inside his afro that is capable of flight. He intends to give it to his son Dajh Katzroy as a gift.

Grown-up Chocobos appear as a means of transportation in Gran Pulse. They are much larger than in the previous games, with two long ear-like feathers on the sides of their heads. The Chocobos from Cocoon are smaller and look more like the ones from the rest of the series.

Riding a Chocobo will enable the player to avoid battles. However, the Chocobo has a Morale meter represented by three feathers, and each time a monster strikes the bird, a feather is lost. Once all feathers are gone, the Chocobo escapes, leaving the party to advance on foot, though the feathers regenerate over time. Should the party encounter an Oretoise, such as a Long Gui or Adamantoise, the Chocobo will lose all of its morale, regardless of how much it has, and will flee.

Final Fantasy XIV
Chocobos appear in the game. They are yellow with orange tufts of feathers on their head and tail. There is a rumor that they will be renamed to Horsebirds to simplify the name for Chinese players.

Spin-Off Appearances
Final Fantasy IV: The After YearsEdit
The Chocobos return in much the same fashion as in Final Fantasy IV, though some new forests have been added.

Final Fantasy X-2
In Final Fantasy X-2, the use of chocobos on the Mi'ihen Highroad died down with the advent of hovers providing faster transportation and chocobo-hunting fiends. They cannot be ridden until Chapter 5 (if the right conditions are met). If the player helped Clasko open the Chocobo Ranch in the Calm Lands, chocobos can be captured in battle, like in Final Fantasy VII. X-2 Chocobos will attack the Gullwings in battle; Berserker Dresspheres, once they gain their Counterattack ability, are counterindicated for Chocobo hunting.

The chocobos in this game are used completely differently from how they are used in Final Fantasy X; they are used only to find hidden items. The player must first raise the chocobos from different levels, from level 1 to level 5. All chocobos have level limits, with 5 being very rare, and 2 being quite common. The higher the level, the less likely the chocobo will run away when foraging for items. Even if the player's avion is level 5, there is still a chance it may run away. Lastly, chocobos will also leave the player if their heart meter drops to 0. The only way to replenish hearts is by feeding them Pahsana Greens. The player can only keep up to 14 chocobos in their ranch. Like its predecessor, chocobos only come in one color, yellow.

Final Fantasy Agito XIII
Agito chocobos have been first seen in concept art for the game shown in CLOUD message, and then presented in the TGS 2010 trailer, shown running in the world map.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
Chocobos appear only as weather vanes. Aside from this, townspeople consider Chocobos to be mythical creatures.

Final Fantasy Adventure
A Chocobo serves as a mount, but is later changed into a "Chocobot". It was removed from the 2003 remake Sword of Mana (Shinyaku Seiken Densetsu in Japan), in favor of the "Cannon Ball Travel", which originated in Secret of Mana; however, a Chocobo can be seen in Sword of Mana by waiting for a certain period of time after the completion of the game.

Dissidia Final Fantasy
Chocobo appears as a summon as well as an Icon. When summoned, it randomizes the Brave Points of both players and can be obtained as a Stage Bonus in the Distant Glory - Heroes Storyline. The artwork used for the summon is from Final Fantasy VIII. In addition, a Chocobo's cry accompanied by visible 'footprints' appears at the start of Bartz's EX Burst.

Chocobos are also used as a visual representation of the game's Play Plan which rewards players based on how many battles they fight. At the beginning of the game players can select from one of three categories - "Casual" which will reward them with the Chocobo Down accessory after 15 battles which grants 20% more EXP and has a 30% chance of breaking, "Average" for a Chocobo Wing after 30 battles which grants 50% more EXP with the same chance of breaking, and "Hardcore" for a Chocobo Feather after 60 battles which grants double EXP and still has a 30% chance of breaking. Two more Play Plans can be unlocked after completing all of the Destiny Odysseys - "Grind-lover" which rewards the player with more EXP and luck multiplier bonuses but no treasures and is represented by a Black Chocobo, and "Treasure Hunter" which rewards the player with Chocobo accessories every few battles but has no bonuses and is represented by a Fat Chocobo.

Chocobo Series
Chocobo (often a specific member of the species, having the proper name "Chocobo") is the primary protagonist of his very own spin-off games that delve into a variety of genres. Several of these games are limited to Japan-only release, although a couple have been released in Europe.

■Chocobo Racing, a kart-racing game for the PlayStation.
■Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon and Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 2, dungeon-crawler games often marketed as beginner RPGs.
■Chocobo Stallion, a game designed to mimic the look and feel of horse racing at a derby.
■Dice De Chocobo, a video board game similar to Monopoly.
■Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales for the Nintendo DS, featuring card duels and completing mini games that must be completed to progress in the story.
■Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon for the Wii is the latest of the series, following Chocobo trying to retrieve people's lost memories.

Compilation of Final Fantasy VII Appearances
Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII
Chocobo appears as a summon on the Digital Mind Wave after obtaining the Chocobo Feather. Chocobo Stomp damages all enemies.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Chocobos do not appear in the movie themselves, but a decoration made out of wood can be seen in Cloud and Tifa's home on a table, next to a photograph.

You can also read the report of a road sign, when Cloud goes to the appointment with Rufus , which indicates the presence nearby of a Chocobo Farm.

They are also seen running across a dirt road in the cinematic CGI ending credits.

Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII
Chocobos do not appear in the game, but a female WRO soldier, who appeared in The Shera, comments that she has a Chocobo named Boco.

Ivalice Title Appearances
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
"Its swift legs carry it charging into battle."
—In-Game Description
Chocobo is a rank 1 Non-Elemental Physical summon. He has no special attack, and his normal, Beak, attack only causes minor damage, but it is the fastest summon in the game. When summoned by an enemy it is a black color.

Final Fantasy Tactics
In Final Fantasy Tactics, Chocobos appear in three different varieties: Normal (Yellow), Black, and Red. Each is slightly different in the types of abilities it can use in battle. If a Chocobo is recruited by the heroes, a human character can ride the Chocobo in battle for much quicker transportation and to fly over obstacles.

A notable Chocobo, Boco, is an optional playable character.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
In this game, Chocobos are used as a mount for the judges, and the Animist job can use the ability Chocobo Rush, which summons a group of Chocobos to trample everything in a line. Furthermore, Chocobos are only mentioned briefly, e.g. In certain areas and special missions (where you have to battle a Totema) special judges are seen riding Chocobos with red armor.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift
Chocobos appear as fightable monsters, which can be weakened and mounted by the Moogle job, Chocobo Knight. There are six different color variations, each with its own abilities that can also be harnessed by the Chocobo Knight:

■ Yellow: Has no special unique abilities, simply the standard Choco Cure to heal surrounding units, Choco Beak to attack, and Choco Barrier to cast Shell and Protect on surrounding units.
■ Green: Can use Choco Esuna to remove debuffs from surrounding units.
■ Brown: Can use Choco Guard to boost Defense, Magic Defense, and cast Regen on surrounding units.
■ Red: Can use Choco Meteor to do damage.
■ White: Can use Choco Recharge to restore MP to one unit. Also resistant to Holy damage.
■ Black: Can use Choco Flame to attack from a distance, also has a shorter movement stat in exchange for the ability to fly.

Fortress

Added by Moguta Chocobos are or were set to appear in this spinoff installment.

Crystal Defenders
Chocobos appear as a summon in Crystal Defenders W3 where a herd can be used to deal low-level damage to all enemies at the cost of two crystals.

Crystal Chronicle Appearances
The Clavats' best shield in the game is called the Chocobo Shield. One of the items needed to craft is a Yellow Feather. Additionally, an Artifact that can be found is the Chocobo Pocket, which upgrades the user's command slot by one.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates
The Selkies' best weapon in the game is called the Chocobow. It's a yellow bow with a Chocobo head that fires arrows from its mouth. When it hits an enemy little images of Chocobos appear upon impact. The description for the weapon calls it "A bow modeled after fabled fantastical fowl creatures. It has a distinctive...scent." One of the items needed to craft this weapon is a Yellow Feather, described as "A large feather from some avian creature. Its color looks vaguely familiar..." The scroll to make this weapon is called Lil' Yella Fella whose description reads "Instruction booklet for a weapon. It has a cute yellow bird on the cover. For Selkies only." There is also a Creature Head and Creature Suit that, when equipped on a Yuke, make them appear as a Chocobo.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers
A Chocobo from The Crystal Bearers
Added by Siddicus Rex While previously only being mentioned in the Crystal Chronicles series, Chocobos make their first appearance in The Crystal Bearers.

Chocobos can be found near cities and villages, and may be rented for free, for an unlimited time. However, the player loses the Chocobo once they dismount it.

While riding the Chocobo, occasionally a lit-up area will show up, which the Chocobo may dig at and obtain treasure. If Gysahl Greens are found, the Chocobo's sprinting time is increased by seconds.

Enemies will not attack you while you are riding a Chocobo, but will run away.
There is also the appearance of wild Chocobos in Snowfield, outside of the Rivelgauge Monastery. These are purple in color, residing outside of small caves in which reside their young. There is an egg inside the nests and for some there are also baby Chocobos. Wild Chocobos will attack you trying to protect their young. The Rivelgauge Monastery asks you to bring any Chocobo eggs that you find to the Monastery. Also, there is a scene in which you ride a wild Chocobo while following Amidatelion after beating Blaze at the Rivelgauge Monastery.

Media Spin-Off Appearances
A featherless Chocobo in Legend of the Crystals.
Klauser can summon chocobos. However, her summoning spell is not perfect and her chocobos appear as defeathered versions of the birds, with pink skin, similar in appearance to Yoshitaka Amano's original Chocobo artwork from Final Fantasy II.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
A Chocobo is visible on a suitcase carried by a man during the Phantoms' attack on New York, as well as on Aki's pyjama shirt.

Final Fantasy: Unlimited
Chocobos are a common sight in Final Fantasy: Unlimited. A chocobo named Chobi is one of the main party members, while a herd of wild chocobos roam around Wonderland avoiding monsters and led by the Chocobo Sisters, Chocobaba and Chocoimo, two slightly oddball old women.

Non-Final Fantasy Appearances
Kingdom Hearts
A Keyblade known as the Metal Chocobo has a keychain resembling a yellow Chocobo.

A type of Gummi Ship (a flying vehicle used in the game) named "Chocobo" is in the form of one. There's also a drawing of a Chocobo in the cave on Destiny Islands, which has been crossed out.

Mana series
In Legend of Mana, wild black Chocobos are random monsters and uncapturable, but it's possible to grab bird eggs from several locations, and these have a chance of hatching a tame yellow Chocobo, a pet that would fight alongside the player. Moreover, if the player has a game save from Final Fantasy VIII on their memory card during the Monster Corral tutorial quest, the egg obtained during this quest will hatch a Chocobo (rather than a Rabite).

In Sword of Mana, the Game Boy Advance remake of Final Fantasy Adventure, the Chocobo makes a cameo in the ending.

Itadaki Street
There is a chocobo character in the game. There is also a mini-game based on Chocobo races.

World of Warcraft
In World of Warcraft, the Blood Elf race uses large land-bound birds known as Hawkstriders as their racial mount. While they have yet to come in the distinctive yellow color, this hasn't dissuaded a large portion of the player base from referring to them as Chocobos.

Ragnarok Online
In Ragnarok Online, the Knight and Crusader classes are given the option to ride on large, toucan-like birds called Peco Pecos that basically resemble Chocobos.

Parasite Eve
In "Parasite Eve", there is a banner hanging above the entrance of the Natural History Museum as seen from the New York map that has a picture of a chocobo on it, and reads 'Chocobo' below the picture.

Trivia
■ Rules for using Chocobos in Dungeons & Dragons were published in the September 2004 issue of Dragon magazine. The rule set contained information on two different breeds of Chocobo, yellow and black.
■ The name, "Chocobo," is probably a reference to the Japanese chocolate malt ball, chokõbo.
■ In the PSP release Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, the generic male "Clifton" claims: "The feral chocobo calls with a boisterous "wark," not the domestic breed's mild 'kweh.'"

Johnny Gat is a character in Saints Row and Saints Row 2. He is a notable member of the 3rd Street Saints.

Description
Johnny Gat is the brash, hot-headed Saints lieutenant of Eastern Asian heritage. Johnny also has a torrid, on again/off again relationship with local R&B diva, Aisha. Gat's badass 'head on' strategies typically involve massive amounts of bloodshed and extensive property damage.

After being introduced to Aisha, the three plot out a way to strike back at the Vice Kings. They load up a car full of C4 and take it to the gang's R&B building, blowing it up and leveling the place to the ground. Despite all this, Gat admits to having an admiration for Benjamin King, leader of the rival gang. After being shot in the leg by Tony Green, Johnny manages to move on along with the Protagonist on successfully destroying The Vice Kings.

After the Protagonist gets in a coma, Gat attempts to kill Troy Bradshaw for betraying the Saints. However, he fails and is taken to prison, which he stays in for 2 years and 31 days. He was going to be executed for 387 counts of murder, but in his appeal trial, the (no longer silent) Protagonist bursts in, kills the guards, and rescues Gat. Gat then proceeds to help the Protagonist to ressurect the Saints, finding them a suitable new hideout and canonizing new people into the Saints.

After the Saints ressurection Gat helps in taking down the Ronin. Gat participates in the raid on posiedons palace and kills a Ronin blackjacket who was on Saints Turf. However, this proves to be a fatal mistake as Ronin Lt. Jyunichi sees Johnny dispose of the body. When Gat leaves the house, Jyunichi and a crew of Ronin break in and capture Aisha. When Gat and the Protagonist return, the Ronin prepare to ambush them but Aisha shouts a warning to Johnny. In turn, Jyunichi kills her, infuriating Gat. Gat then gets into a sword fight with Jyunichi while the Protagonist kills the other Ronin. Jyunichi and Gat appear to be on even levels, but when the Protgonist distracts Johnny for a minute in an attempt to shoot Jyunichi, Jyunichi stabs him. The Protagonist manages to get him to hospital since the ambulance was taking too long. Gat then stays in hospital for a while, up until the Ronin invade to finish him off, but the Protagonist gets Gat away safely. Then the Ronin Leader, Shogo Akuji, arrives at Aishas funeral and attempts to kill them in revenge for humiliating him and decimating his gang. Gat survives and, blaming Shogo for ordering Aisha's death, brutally beats him, and buries him alive. Gat then defends the Saints hideout from Ronin invasion and kills many Ronin at Mr. Wong's heritage festival. After the Ronin are defeated, Gat becomes a homie.

After the gangs have been obliterated, the Saints, along with Gat, move on to taking down the corrupt company of Ultor, in defense and retaliation against the new Masako strike team threat. In an assassination attempt against Dane Vogel, Johnny uses a sniper rifle to shoot at the surrounding guards while the Protagonist plans to personally murder Vogel, although Johnny is spotted by a security guard. When Vogel escapes to his office atop the enormous Ultor tower, he stays below at the entrance buying the Protagonist time. After Vogel has been killed, Johnny Gat can be seen for the last time doing what he loves to do, shooting at oncoming waves of cops.

Trivia
■ Johnny, according to in-game dialogue, was a soldier at some point in his life. When Julius is talking to the protagonist in SR1's pre-ending cutscene he says "Those two (Johnny and Lin) were soldiers they knew the risk." However this may just be referring to their bravery and hardness.
■ Johnny's favorite vehicle was the Venom during Saints Row, but he drives a Stiletto in Saints Row 2 after he gives his Venom to The Protagonist in Saints Row.
■ Gat's favorite firearm appears to be a K6 Krukov (AK-47).
■ It is rumored that Johnny is related to Lin somehow. However, Volition stated that they are not.
■ It seems that The Protagonist deeply respects Johnny Gat and vice versa.
■ Even though Pierce was supposed to be in charge of taking down the Ronin, Gat is seen in more missions.
■ Gat is shown to be very 'trigger happy'.
■ When the protagonist is female, citizens speculate that she may have romantic feelings for Johnny as some pedestrians can be heard saying "Now that Aisha is out of the way, are you gonna get with Johnny?"
■ In the second Saints Row 2 mission, Judge Jane Valderama states that Gat has been convicted of one count of attempted murder and 387 counts of first-degree murder. Undoubtedly, that would send him to death row, and if not for the protagonist's interference, he would have been executed.
■ Gat is only seen in Ronin missions, most likely because he is stabbed and the player can do missions in whatever order they want.

Nico Robin (ニコ・ロビン, Niko Robin), Archeoloog

海軍 Kaigun)

七武海 Shichibukai)

四皇 Yonkō)

革命家 Kakumeika)

The Ljubljana "Dragon of Slovenia"
Carved imperial dragons at Nine-Dragon Wall, Beijing, China

Dragons are legendary creatures, typically with serpentine or otherwise reptilian traits, that feature in the myths of many cultures.

There are two distinct cultural traditions of dragons: the European dragon, derived from European folk traditions and ultimately related to Greek and Middle Eastern mythologies, and the Chinese dragon, with counterparts in Japan, Korea and other Asian countries. The two traditions may have evolved separately, but have influenced each to a certain extent, particularly with the cross-cultural contact of recent centuries. The English word "dragon" derives from Greek δράκων (drákōn), "dragon, serpent of huge size, water-snake", which probably comes from the verb δρακεῖν (drakeîn) "to see clearly".[1]

Overview
An illustration of a dragon.
This section contains weasel words, vague phrasing that often accompanies biased or unverifiable information. Such statements should be clarified or removed. (July 2009)

Dragons are usually shown in modern times with a body like a huge lizard, or a snake with two pairs of lizard-type legs, and able to emit fire from their mouths. The European dragon has bat-type wings growing from its back. A dragon-like creature with no front legs is known as a wyvern. Following discovery of how pterosaurs walked on the ground, some dragons have been portrayed without front legs and using the wings as front legs pterosaur-fashion when on the ground.

Although dragons occur in many legends around the world, different cultures have varying stories about monsters that have been grouped together under the dragon label. Some dragons are said to breathe fire or to be poisonous. They are commonly portrayed as serpentine or reptilian, hatching from eggs and possessing typically scaly or feathered bodies. They are sometimes portrayed as having especially large eyes or watching treasure very diligently, a feature that is the origin of the word dragon (Greek drakeîn meaning "to see clearly").[2] Some myths portray them with a row of dorsal spines. European dragons are more often winged, while Chinese dragons resemble large snakes. Dragons can have a variable number of legs: none, two, four, or more when it comes to early European literature.

Dragons are often held to have major spiritual significance in various religions and cultures around the world. In many Asian cultures dragons were, and in some cultures still are, revered as representative of the primal forces of nature, religion and the universe. They are associated with wisdom—often said to be wiser than humans—and longevity. They are commonly said to possess some form of magic or other supernatural power, and are often associated with wells, rain, and rivers. In some cultures, they are also said to be capable of human speech. In some traditions dragons are said to have taught humans to talk.

The term dragoon, for infantry that moved around on horseback yet still fought as foot soldiers, is derived from their early firearm, the "dragon", a wide-bore musket that spat flame when it fired, and was thus named for the mythical creature.
Origin and etymology

The word dragon entered the English language in the early 13th century from Old French dragon, which in turn comes from Latin draconem (nominative draco) meaning "huge serpent, dragon," from the Greek word δρακων, drakon (genitive drakontos) "serpent, giant seafish", which is believed to have come from an earlier stem drak-, a stem of derkesthai, "to see clearly," from Proto-Indo-European derk- "to see" or "the one with the (deadly) glance."

The Greek and Latin term referred to any great serpent, not necessarily mythological, and this usage was also current in English up to the 18th century. Today the great komodo lizard Varanus komodoensis is also known in English as the Komodo dragon. The King James Bible uses the words "serpent", "dragon" and "Devil" in a fairly interchangeable manner.

The association of the serpent with a monstrous opponent overcome by a heroic deity has its roots in the mythology of the Ancient Near East, including Canaanite (Hebrew, Ugaritic), Hittite and Mesopotamian. The Chaoskampf motif entered Greek mythology and ultimately Christian mythology, although the serpent motif may already be part of prehistoric Indo-European mythology as well, based on comparative evidence of Indic and Germanic material.

The "European dragon" (and its Near Eastern and Indic cognates) myth has quite different characteristics and origins from those of the Chinese dragon.[citation needed]

Dinosaur and mammalian fossils were occasionally mistaken for the bones of dragons and other mythological creature; for example, a discovery in 300 BC in Wucheng, Sichuan, China, was labeled as such by Chang Qu.[3] Adrienne Mayor has written on the subject of fossils as the inspiration for myths in her book The First Fossil Hunters, and in an entry in the Encyclopedia of Geology she wrote: "Fossil remains generated a variety of geomyths speculating on the creatures' identity and cause of their destruction. Many ancient cultures, from China and India to Greece, America, and Australia, told tales of dragons, monsters, and giant heroes to account for fossils of animals they had never seen alive."[4] In Australia, stories of such creatures may have referred to the land crocodiles, Quinkana sp., a terrestrial crocodile which grew from 5 to possibly 7 metres in length, or the 4 tonne monitor lizard Varanus priscus (formerly Megalania prisca) a giant, carnivorous goanna that might have grown to as long as 7 metres, and weighed up to 1,940 kilograms, or rainbow serpents (possibly Wonambi naracoortensis) that were part of the extinct megafauna of that continent.[5]

In the book An Instinct for Dragons[6] anthropologist David E. Jones suggests a hypothesis that humans just like monkeys have inherited instinctive reactions to snakes, large cats and birds of prey. Dragons have features that are combinations of these three. Our instinctive fear for these three would explain why dragons with similar features occur in stories from independent cultures on all continents. Other authors have suggested that especially under the influence of drugs or in dreams, this instinct may give raise to fantasies about dragons, snakes, spiders, etc., which would explain why these symbols are popular in drug culture. The traditional mainstream explanation to the folklore dragons does however not rely on human instinct, but on the assumption that fossil remains of dinosaurs gave rise to similar speculations all over the world.

Greek mythology
Main article: Dragons in Greek mythology

In Ancient Greece the first mention of a "dragon" is derived from the Iliad where Agamemnon is described as having a blue dragon motif on his sword belt and a three-headed dragon emblem on his breast plate.[7] However, the Greek word used (δράκων drákōn, genitive δράκοντοϛ drákontos) could also mean "snake". δράκων drákōn is a form of the aorist participle active of Greek δέρκομαι dérkomai = "I see", derkeîn = "to see", and originally likely meant "that which sees", or "that which flashes or gleams" (perhaps referring to reflective scales). This is the origin of the word "dragon". (See also Hesiod's Theogony, 322.)

In 217 A.D., Philostratus discussed dragons (δράκων, drákōn) in India in The Life of Apollonius of Tyana (II,17 and III,6-8). The Loeb Classical Library translation (by F.C. Conybeare) mentions (III,7) that “In most respects the tusks resemble the largest swine’s, but they are slighter in build and twisted, and have a point as unabraded as sharks’ teeth.”

According to Aelian's On Animals, Ethiopia was inhabited by a species of dragon that hunted elephants. It could grow to a length of 180 feet and had a lifespan rivaling that of the most enduring of animals.[8]

European dragons exist in folklore and mythology among the overlapping cultures of Europe. Despite having wings, the dragon is generally depicted as having an underground lair or cave, making it an ancient creature of the earth element. European dragons are usually depicted as malevolent though there are exceptions (such as Y Ddraig Goch, the Red Dragon of Wales).

Chinese dragons (simplified Chinese: 龙; traditional Chinese: 龍; pinyin: lóng) can take on human form and are usually seen as benevolent. Dragons are particularly popular in China and the five-clawed dragon was a symbol of the Chinese emperors, with the mythical bird fenghuang the symbol of the Chinese empress. Dragon costumes manipulated by several people are a common sight at Chinese festivals.
Japanese

Japanese dragon myths amalgamate native legends with imported stories about dragons from China, Korea and India. Like these other Asian dragons, most Japanese ones are water deities associated with rainfall and bodies of water, and are typically depicted as large, wingless, serpentine creatures with clawed feet. Gould writes (1896:248),[9] the Japanese dragon is "invariably figured as possessing three claws".
Vedic

In the early Vedic religion, Vritra (Sanskrit: वृत्र (Devanāgarī) or Vṛtra (IAST)) "the enveloper", was an Asura and also a "naga" (serpent) or possibly dragon-like creature, the personification of drought and enemy of Indra. Vritra was also known in the Vedas as Ahi ("snake"), and he is said to have had three heads.
Indian

The following detailed account comes from the Life of Apollonius of Tyana by Flavius Philostratus:[10]

The whole of India is girt with dragons of enormous size; for not only the marshes are full of them, but the mountains as well, and there is not a single ridge without one. Now the marsh kind are sluggish in their habits and are thirty cubits long, and they have no crest standing up on their heads, but in this respect resemble the she-dragons. Their backs however are very black, with fewer scales on them than the other kinds; and Homer has described them with deeper insight than have most poets, for he says that the dragon that lived hard by the spring in Aulis had a tawny back; but other poets declare that the congener of this one in the grove of Nemea also had a crest, a feature which we could not verify in regard to the marsh dragons.

And the dragons along the foothills and the mountain crests make their way into the plains after their quarry, and prey upon all the creatures in the marshes; for indeed they reach an extreme length, and move faster than the swiftest rivers, so that nothing escapes them. These actually have a crest, of moderate extent and height when they are young; but as they reach their full size, it grows with them and extends to a considerable height, at which time also they turn red and get serrated backs. This kind also have beards, and lift their necks on high, while their scales glitter like silver; and the pupils of their eves consist of a fiery stone, and they say that this has an uncanny power for many secret purposes. The plain specimen falls the prize of the hunters whenever it draws upon itself an elephant; for the destruction of both creatures is the result, and those who capture the dragons are rewarded by getting the eyes and skin and teeth. In most respects they resemble the largest swine, but they are slighter in build and flexible, and they have teeth as sharp and indestructible as those of the largest fishes. Now the dragons of the mountains have scales of a golden colour, and in length excel those of the plain, and they have bushy beards, which also are of a golden hue; and their eyebrows are more prominent than those of the plain, and their eye is sunk deep under the eyebrow, and emits a terrible and ruthless glance. And they give off a noise like the clashing of brass whenever they are burrowing under the earth, and from their crests, which are all fiery red, there flashes a fire brighter than a torch. They also can catch the elephants, though they are themselves caught by the Indians in the following manner. They embroider golden runes on a scarlet cloak, which they lay in front of the animal's burrow after charming them to sleep with the runes; for this is the only way to overcome the eyes of the dragon, which are otherwise inflexible, and much mysterious lore is sung by them to overcome him. These runes induce the dragon to stretch his neck out of his burrow and fall asleep over them : then the Indians fall upon him as he lies there, and despatch him with blows of their axes, and having cut off the head they despoil it of its gems. And they say that in the heads of the mountain dragons there are stored away stones of flowery colour, which flash out all kinds of hues, and possess a mystical power if set in a ring, like that which they say belonged to Gyges. But often the Indian, in spite of his axe and his cunning, is caught by the dragon, who carries him off into his burrow, and almost shakes the mountains as he' disappears. These are also said to inhabit the mountains in the neighbourhood of the Red Sea, and they say that they heard them hissing terribly and that they saw them go down to the shore and swim far out into the sea.
—Flavius Philostratus, The Life of Apollonius of Tyana

Persian

Aži Dahāka is the source of the modern Persian word azhdahā or ezhdehā اژده ها (Middle Persian azdahāg) meaning "dragon", often used of a dragon depicted upon a banner of war. The Persians believed that the baby of a dragon will be the same color as the mother's eyes. In Middle Persian he is called Dahāg or Bēvar-Asp, the latter meaning "[he who has] 10,000 horses." Several other dragons and dragon-like creatures, all of them malevolent, are mentioned in Zoroastrian scripture. (See Zahhāk).
Jewish

In Jewish religious texts, the first mention of a dragon-like creature is in the Biblical works of Job (26:13), and Isaiah (27:1) where it is called Nachash Bare'ach, or a "Pole Serpent".[11] This is identified in the Midrash Rabba to Genesis 1:21 as Leviathan from the word Taninim (תנינים) "and God created the great sea-monsters."[12] In modern Hebrew the word Taninim is used for Crocodiles but this is a 20th century usage unconnected with the original Biblical meaning.[citation needed]

In Jewish astronomy this is also identified with the North Pole, the star Thuban which, around 4,500 years ago, was the star in the Draco constellation's "tail".[11] However this can also have been either the celestial pole or the ecliptic pole. The ancient observers noted that Draco was at the top of the celestial pole, giving the appearance that stars were "hanging" from it, and in Hebrew it is referred to as Teli, from talah (תלה) - to hang.[13] Hebrew writers from Arabic-speaking locations identified the Teli as Al Jaz'har, which is a Persian word for a "knot" or a "node" because of the intersection of the inclination of the orbit of a planet from the elliptic that forms two such nodes. In modern astronomy these are called the ascending node and the descending node, but in medieval astronomy they were referred to as "dragon's head" and "dragon's tail".[14]

Rahab, as described in Psalms 89:9-10 and Isaiah 51:9-10, also has "dragon-like" characteristics.[original research?]

Modern depictions

In the early 20th century sculpture of the Norwegian artist Gustav Vigeland, inspired by Medieval art, dragons are a frequent theme—as symbols of sin but also as a nature force, fighting against man.

There are numerous examples of dragons in modern media, especially the fantasy genre. In the 1937 fantasy novel The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, the major antagonist is a dragon named Smaug. Smaug hoards a great treasure but is ultimately shot down with an arrow by an archer who was told about a soft patch in Smaug's underbelly armor. Other dragons appearing in Tolkien's works include Glaurung, the "father of dragons" created by Morgoth, along with Ancalagon the Black and Scatha. Also, in Tolkien's Farmer Giles of Ham, a dragon named Chrysophylax Dives is encountered.

Dragons also appear frequently in the Harry Potter novels by J. K. Rowling, and are described in the Harry Potter-related book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by the same author.

Dragonriders of Pern is an extensive science fiction series of novels and short stories created and primarily written by Anne McCaffrey. Since 2004, McCaffrey's son, Todd McCaffrey, has also published Pern novels, both in collaboration with Anne and on his own. The Pernese use intelligent firebreathing creatures called dragons, who have a telepathic bond with their riders, formed by mental impressions which the dragons receive when they hatch from their eggs.

Some modern pseudo-biological accounts of dragons give them the generic name Draco, although the generic name Draco is used in real-world biology for a genus of small gliding agamid lizard. An infectious disease called Dracunculiasis, caused by infection with the Guinea worm which grows up to 3 feet (0.91 m) long before emerging from its host, also derives its name from dragons (literally "infestation with little dragons"), based on the burning pain experienced by sufferers.
Creationists' assertions

Some creationists believe that dragons of mythology were actually dinosaurs, and that they died out with other creatures around the end of the ice age.[16][17]
Cartography

There is a widespread belief that earlier cartographers used the Latin phrase hic sunt dracones, i.e., "the dragons are here", or "here be dragons", to denote dangerous or unexplored territories, in imitation of the infrequent medieval practice of putting sea serpents and other mythological creatures in blank areas of maps. However the only known use of this phrase is in the Latin form "HC SVNT DRACONES" on the Lenox Globe (ca. 1503-07).[18]

2012 (MMXII) will be a leap year starting on Sunday in the Gregorian calendar. It will be the 2012th year of the Common Era or Anno Domini designation, the 12th year of the 3rd millennium and of the 21st century; and the 3rd of the 2010s decade.

It has been designated Alan Turing Year, commemorating the mathematician, computer pioneer, and code-breaker on the centennial of Turing's birth.[1]

There are a variety of popular beliefs about the year 2012. These beliefs range from the spiritually transformative to the apocalyptic, and center upon various interpretations of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. Contemporary scientists have disputed the apocalyptic versions.[2]
