Some context here is that this originates from a Webtoon made by an American artist, Leeanne Krecic. This comic was nominated for an Eisner award and has gotten quite a lot of readership, so there's no question this show has excellent source material.

Episode 1

It begins with Sam playing her online game and successfully clearing a quest. And then she goes to her day job as an aspiring video game developer at a company run by her father Samuel. The day didn't get off to a good start when a delivery man accidentally spilled coffee on her, and her boss Charles ended up lending her one of his shirts. As Sam is set to succeed her father that Charles wants to make sure that she has the right mindset to run a company, which would mean firing Lucy for that screw-up, but Sam comes to her defense seeing that she hasn't done anything firable. And then Sam watches Marshall's livestream and sees that he's moving in next door to her. Seeing that the comic is great that I have high hopes for this show, and so far it has been mostly setup. But it's an amusing way to start things off as Sam is an interesting character in an interesting environment.

I was surprised when I found out this was based on an American web comic. The only other Western inspired anime I think I have watched is Radiant. Seems almost odd that there isn't a day 1 dub for this.

OLM isn't exactly a superstar studio, but they have done some good anime, and the Japanese voice cast is pretty stacked, so they must have put some money behind this.

The first episode was a bit tropey, but at least they kind of made fun of some of the tropes, and the scene with her boss gave me a bit of "50 Shades of Grey" vibes. This definitely seems like it is going to lean into the Josei genre.

It's also less likely for a big time streamer to ruin an first time indie game than to make one completely take off. I certainly doubt an online store front would just take a game down because a streamer didn't like it. So that aspect was a bit far fetched.

@HOOfan_1 I was thinking it was just a traffic issue because a lot of new people were checking it out.

Episode 2

As it turns out, Marshall didn't play the game right, all while the negative reviews come mostly from those who watched the livestream and didn't play it themselves. Nevertheless, Sam's reputation as a game maker is at stake here, but she also has to put up with her noisy neighbor, and get the message across that if he played Ruminate the way it was intended, then his mindset would be much different. And of course, Marshall can't help but be attached to her dog Bowser, obviously named for Mario's archenemy. An interesting relationship is developing, but first there's the matter of that lady who is inside Marshall's apartment as her temper is a problem.

Hmm. Nothing's going to happen, is it.

Oh well not everything is for me.

Okay.
How about Howl's Moving Castle, Arriety, Tales from Earthsea, The Animatrix, Highlander: Search For Vengeance, Stitch or Powerpuff Girls Z?
There are actually a surprising number of anime series that were originally Western books, movies or television shows.

I think I watched a SciFi Channel live action adaptation of that many years ago. I don't even remember the stories now, and the only Ursala Leguin novel I have read is The Left Hand of Darkness

I did watch the Ruby anime, so there's that and Radiant, and now this

Episode 3

As it turns out, that lady is Monica, who is beauty livestreamer and Marshall's girlfriend. She despites Marshall's fangirls, but Sam isn't one of them as she's simply his neighbor and they become friends afterwards. After that, Sam goes out with her gaming friends as they celebrate their rise to the top 3 as the guild Rare Spawns in the World of Warcraft, err, Warquest, and the guys have been invited to join in on a raid with the top 2 guilds. So they celebrate at a Dave and Buster's type of place. Among the gaming friends includes a deaf rich girl in Olivia and her butler Edgar. They have a great time, but then Sam gets a message from Indigeneer that they can't remove all the negative comments about her game that Marshall played the wrong way due to terms and conditions, putting her career as a game developer on the line. But she's not giving up as her gaming friends are encouraging her on. So after that Sam goes back to square one by introducing herself properly to Marshall. Let's see where this goes, but it's great to see that Sam is building up a nice network of friends.

Episode 4

Sparks are flying here as Marshall tries to apologize to Sam by offering her money to use for her next project, but she rejects it as he hasn't truly apologized for ripping her game to shreds. And then Marshall drops by Sam's favorite coffee shop, and there he gets into a confrontation with Angela, who had to be restrained by Link as she was about to punch Marshall in retribution for ruining Sam's development career. And then Sam and Charles arrive at the college shop, and it turns out that Marshall's real name is Ben Lawson and he's somebody who Charles knows personally. Quite a lot going on here as while Sam's reputation is in the toilet with her game development career hanging in the balance, she wants to resolve things her own way and not accept any charity.

If he really wanted to fix the problem, just play the game again and admit that he misunderstood the premise of it the first time.

As for the end....that takes Deus ex Machina a little too far
