Plot Summary

Oda Akira is the kind of guy who people forget is even there. His unassuming nature pays off, though, when his entire class is swept away to a fantasy world, and he slips easily into his new role as a silent assassin. Between his suspiciously high starting stats and too many details that don't fit, Akira is sure something is wrong. But digging into royal secrets is a dangerous game, and when Akira uncovers an evil scheme, he also makes a powerful enemy—the very king who brought him to this world! With the help of the elven spirit medium Amelia, can he find the power to set things right, and get his revenge?

Episode 1

Here is another show like Arifureta in which an entire class gets isekaied, but without the betrayal as Akira chose to distance himself from the class seeing that his stats are way too high and would rather remain a background character like he had been all his life as opposed to being the hero his insanely high stats would otherwise make him be. As it turns out, the guys who summoned the class are up to no good, and Akira is the only one who knows about it seeing that his concealment is quite a handy skill. There, he meets Saran, the one guy he can't hide his presence from, and they become buddies as they are out to stop a coup that's coming. So with that, Akira has his own mission in order to take down the king and expose all the royal secrets about how corrupt he is, though Saran seems like a shady guy himself as well. Interesting start here, and the production values are pretty good seeing that it's being handled by a highly reputable studio. Akira feels so much like Shadow here, though without the harem as he's going at it alone to root out corruption as he wants to return home more than anything.

Well.

The show is trying to look cool. This is despite the fact that it uses SO MANY standard fantasy isekai tropes and game mechanics. It's also disjointed. The director doesn't seem to know how to control the flow of the story well. So, the coolness factor almost comes across as an unintentional parody to me.

The protagonist is actually not a bad isekai character so far, despite being a bit overpowered. I'm not sold on the cast, though.

Technically, this show fails to meet my minimum standards in the first episode. I might give it another episode or two to win me over, though, depending on my mood next week.

Oh, Failure Frame got a season 2?

Although, to be honest, this seems like it will have more potential that than show...despite the well worn "class of high schoolers summoned to another world to be heroes" trope.

Also, WTF is with the episode title Crunchyroll gave it? "The Assassin EASTS Bread"....come on

He's not even being an edgelord. He's just bland and anti-social. The story is also pretty clunky. I feel like I learned everything and nothing.

The one interesting thing about him is being an assassin who doesn't kill. But we know he does thanks to the opening flash forward fight showing him off a dude. Or does that not count because he made the guy's own sword fall on him? His avoidance of murder could have been a plot point but we already know he eventually does so there's no real tension.

Does the bread get concealed too or was it just floating in the air?

@HOOfan_1 He's hard to pick up, that's all the title makers noticed him doing from this episode...

But that actually is the episode title, it shows at 22:08 as being episode 1.

As for the series' title, I would have translated it more as,

"My Stats as an Assassin are Clearly Stronger than Those of the Hero"

Episode 2

Akira is framed for killing Saran after he finds out about the king's plans and broke the curse the princess has been putting on his fellow classmates. It's a good thing Gilles anticipated that this would happen and provided Akira with supplies should he need to flee the kingdom, though he left a bag behind that has something really important. With the Night Ravens in pursuit, the safest place for Akira to be at is the dungeon, where he levels up his skills, all while he meets up with an elf lady who happens to be royalty. So with that, Akira makes his way down to level 80 where he defeats a dragon that his conceal ability doesn't work on, and gains an ally, but he's about to get another one in the form of a cat. So the betrayal has happened just like in Arifureta and Failure Frame, although in this case Akira finds out about it himself and was ready to wage war before it happened.

Saran being killed offscreen seems bogus somehow. Either it's extremely lazy writing or it's some sort of ploy and he's not really dead.

So now it's taking the Arifureta route except it's an elf princess instead of a vampire princess.

Hadn't thought of that, but with the way someone mentioned that they were surprised he went down so easily that's a strong possibility.

The beginning was like a combination of The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic and Loner Life in Another World, the villainous trap of Shield Hero, the edginess of Solo Leveling, and the labyrinth grinding of The Unwanted Undead Adventurer..

I only really checked it out to simp on the waifu xD I was expecting to hate it so much that I would just drop it immediately, but the show seem to know when to fast forward things so I don't have time to get pissed enough and rage quit xD I'll give it a few more chances to infuriate me. xP

Episode 3

The dragon transforms into a giant black cat, and while she asks Akira to kill him, Akira has a soft spot for cats. So instead seeing they are trapped in the boss room until either he or the cat is killed. But there's another way out as Akira instead makes the cat his familiar through soul linking, and thus the cat he names Night has joined the party. While that's going on, Tsukasa's party that ran away from the kingdom is stopping in Yamato, which is a town that looks just like Edo-period Japan as it looks like there was another hero that was previously isekaied there. While resting up, Amelia explains her background as she was branded a traitor by her homeland and is despised by her sister Kilika. While they are now out of the king's eye, they end up warping to Amelia's homeland where they are surrounded right away. Some family feud this is going to turn out to be as Akira is determined to try and fix things here seeing that he could have easily gone home there, but decides to fix things in this world before doing so.

Man, the pacing on this thing is all over the place. "I shall not rest until I get my vengeance!" But first let's hang out and chat for a bit. We've opened the portal to somewhere, but no rush? And nobody discussed whose destination should be the one in mind, so they end up in Elfland because of Amelia's PTSD and are instantly fired upon by her sister and an army of elf-thugs because of course they are. I mean Amelia's been gone for months, so naturally the thugs are still ready for battle and just happen to be right where she and the others get teleported...

And meanwhile the other heroes have been hanging out in Edoville scarfing rice bowls and dressing up in cute clothes and talking about how they need to get stronger so they can measure up to Akira but don't seem to have any real urgency for doing so.

I will say that in a season of lousy OPs, this one is not bad, but I sure had a hard time remembering what happened in the previous episodes.

The elf girl fell for him already? That was fast even for an isekai.

Well it is a shapeshifter. And I like the totally on the nose name for what kind of creature it is: Black Cat.

OK started this, art is excellent. Story is slightly different enough from "I am an outsider" to be OK (though still almost a mashup of Shield Hero and Solo leveling).

@SparkyBob

Agreed, also I thought he was a little too friendly, "oh hi new kid I am going to gain your trust and teach you everything but don't be suspicious I am actually trying to overthrow the king, I even wrote a book about it" Huh? That's either dumb writing or a set up for something else.
