Synopsis:
Nico Wakatsuki has finished her six years of witch training and is moving back to town by herself. As a new witch, she must choose a familiar to accompany her. However, unlike the other witches, she wishes to pick a non-animal familiar. There's no better companion than Morihito "Moi" Otogi—her childhood friend who happens to be an ogre. Morihito is vehemently opposed to being her servant, but he reluctantly accepts his fate after learning that a curse would revert him into a strange cow-tiger hybrid were he to disobey a witch's order.
Due to Morihito's father leaving for a business trip and Nico's mother remaining behind in the Witches' Holy Land, the two teens find themselves living together under the same roof. While Nico is ecstatic to be living with her crush, Morihito finds that her magical antics and overall clumsiness create more problems than solutions. With a prophesied disaster to befall Nico within the year, Morihito must do everything he can to protect her as her bodyguard while also upholding his duties as her familiar.

Nice a Romcom that actually has legitimate "com" in it. Looks to be a nice set up for further shennanigens. Though another curse that will take 1 year on a witch? Is this just a coincidence or a trope? And wow 26 episodes, I have high hopes for this one.

Episode 1

Pretty funny stuff to start things out here. I lost it when Nico decides to flatten herself. Things are only going to get crazier with the two living together as witches and ogres aren't exactly known for getting along, and Moi is not actually in his true form. Let's see where things go.

@MenchiK1 One year is a solid trope. A way to add some tension, but give room for the story and characters to grow. If you really want to amp up the tension set the deadline to a few weeks or maybe thirty days. (Or if you want to have a ridiculous amount of action happening in an unrealistically compressed timespan set it to twenty-four hours. =P )

I didn't mean just the time frame, but that it's a curse on a witch.

It's pretty silly, but not immersion-breaking. I like the way Nico is so cheerful as she recklessly throws magic around, while also trying her best to help people. I'll keep watching this one.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the characters. I'm not expecting anything too ground-breaking, but this has potential to be fun. At least they already like each other.

That was some solid classic Comedy stuff! Just the two MCs alone are fun enough-- I could just imagine the upcoming characters would just add so much more to it.

I can see this show taking lots of leeway towards the "Disaster in a year's time" plot with the comedy stuff managing to be satisfying fillers, and I won't even complain if so.
I'd hope for at least 3 1-cour seasons of this since it seems like a really good quality comedy but, seeing as it has 26 episodes, I can only assume that's all this will get.

Here's hoping for a very solid run for this show.

Nico was a klutz when she was a kid, and now she's even more so because she wants to impress Morihito every chance she gets.

Nico has pink hair and is a klutz. Sophia from Gorilla Girl has pink hair and is a klutz. Anna from Bureaucrat to Villainess has pink hair and is a klutz.

Is this a trope I totally missed?

Saw the first 3 episodes at a premiere event and I think it's a great adaptation so far. From what the director said, it seems like they're focusing mostly on the comedy at the start so how much you enjoy it is going to depend on how much you enjoy shonen comedy, I guess.

That was much better than I was expecting. Some good deadpan type comedy.

Episode 2

Nico and Morihito start high school, and while Nico is eager to show off her magic abilities, Morihito doesn't want her to go all willy-nilly. But both their heritages end up coming to the surface, and all their classmates are fine with it.

Quite a few references to other manga (Hunter x Hunter, Demon Slayer, Fruits Basket, and Dragon Ball), particularly because the teacher is a closet otaku.

YESSIR!!! Another very fun episode. It's full-on comedy alright: Anime references, very unrealistically understanding NPCs with their own character traits, banter during the after-credit preview. Love it!

Puns are a pain to translate. Unless the author tells you exactly what they mean there are often multiple layers to the 'joke'.

Isshiki Takashi at the moment is based on

意識高い系 ishiki takai
Noun
1. person who is overly conscious about appearing interesting (esp. online)

So then you have to realize the reason he's complaining about people flaming him online is because he intentionally says high-brow sounding crap and ends up trying to elevate himself by (inadvertently?) insulting other people.

But later on the author might take it in a different direction, making a different pun.

Just with the 'sound of their names'

Makuwa Yuri - makuwauri - a kind of melon

Kowashi Hara - hara kowashi - busted gut

Ishi Tsuyoshi - tsuyoi isshi - strong will

Isshiki Takashi - isshiki-takai - full-of-themselves

Komeran Arashi - komennto-ran arashi - stirring up the comment section (making a storm)

Ureshino Kukumi - ureshii no kukkutto - ~chuckling in happiness

Magami Keigo -- I'm not sure with this one

Koboke Suberu -- ko-boke suberu-- a little gag bombs

Minami Kara -- also not sure, sounds like 'from the South'. Some kind of cultural thing I don't understand.

Yeah. I can imagine how much time it would take to translate those 'pun' jokes when there's a simulcast schedule.
Maybe a DVD release would have those pun translations-- hopefully, so I can ("YARRR!") buy it xD

Thanks for sharing the translations. Appreciate it ^_^

For me, it's School Rumble. Nico is giving me Tenma energy, but less impulsive. xD
Although, School Rumble had less reference, iirc. But it had about the same level of school craziness.

The first ep was good but that second one was great. Really funny stuff. The weirdo classmates, the flying stuff, the teacher, the enlarging spell shenanigans, Moi-chan coming off like a chuuni, it all worked. If the rest of the episodes are half this funny it will be one of the best of the season.

Episode 2

Lots of fun stuff here as Nico isn't afraid to show off despite Moi asking her not to. That didn't last long as Nico makes her presence felt in a big way as she even gave flying lessons the class as a way to show things off. Unfortunately, a truck gets caught in it and Moi had to go ogre in order to save the driver. Things could have been ugly, but the class has no problems with the two.

Episode 3

Nico uses magic to copy an outfit from a catalog, but the back side is see-through. Then she splits herself in two, and then four, to try carrying some boxes her mother sent her. Finally, things get a little serious when Morihito has to fight a guy in a dog mask. Turns out it's a friend of Nico's, a tengu named Kanshi.

The opening sequence this episode is all line drawings, like a demo reel. And there's a Yu-Gi-Oh reference in the next episode preview.

Another fun episode, not quite as funny as the previous two but still cute. I especially like the fact that Nico is flat out trying to get Moi to admit he's interested, is admitting to herself that she likes him, and yet isn't being trashy about it. And Moi is just holding himself back out of a sense of duty. Such a nice change from the typical anime characters who refuse to admit their feelings even to themselves.

Ehh what a drop off from the first two episodes :( Even the first part which was better seemed like a, "hey lets give doujin writers some ideas" than any real comedy. Already hate Tengu guy, I was expecting it from the OP and ED but, ugh, really didn't want to see this become a love triangle. :(

Episode 4

Kanshi is rather stubborn towards Morihito, and Nico tries using a couple of spells to make them get along. First, she makes an umbrella come to life, and then she enchants some pocky sticks and has the two boys eat them. However, it turns into something out of a yaoi manga, and the spell's influence soon spreads when Kanshi gets a balloon out of a tree for some kids. Then one of Nico's dresses gets possessed and flies off while she's wearing it, so Morihito and Kanshi have to work together to rescue her.

Geez did that suck. Shoehorning this guy in has made this go from a great show to horrible. "Look we need my power we can follow the crows to find her"...instead of just following her as she slowly floats above them...9_9 I almost feel like dropping this. "It was the plan from the beginning" Yet no one told Moi? OK. Dumb. Oh and Crunchyroll what is up with the unreadable white subs?

Episodes 4 and 5:

I don't mind the new guy, but he's definitely on the noisy side; Maybe his dad being so into Demon Slayer that he started developing Zenitsu genes. xD
I understand that they need a rival for Moi but, kinda wish they didn't put him in the house with them as well. Although, I guess that should've been expected from this comedy show since a rowdy crowd in a house would provide lots of whacky situations; I'd assume the other guy from the OP credits would join them there as well.

I do like that the new female character can turn into a cat, which can be an excuse as to why she'd end up in situational comedy with them at Moi's house as well.

I appreciate the Otaku Teacher character but, that entire Otaku bit was definitely the most out-of-place filler bit in the show so far.
Hope her, and the Otaku Artist student's future comical bits would involve the MCs as well, or at least be caused by Nico's magical mishaps.

Nico shrinks herself to get away and ends up flying into Morihito's pocket, where she overhears him being confessed to by a girl. Morihito turns the girl down because he doesn't know her that well.
