Episode 1

And here is another fantasy show. But instead of it being about adventurers, it's about a guild clerk who just so happens to also be an adventurer herself, working incognito as the solo adventurer known as the Executioner. She just wants to end her workday on-time as overtime is quite the pain for her. So she takes matters into her own hands by finishing the job for the inept adventurers who keep her at work to avoid working overtime. But she needs to do this in total secrecy, and the leader of the Silver Sword party Jade figures out her identity. Seeing that she doesn't want things to spread that Alina and Jade talk things over in private, and Alina gives him a piece of her mind. Pretty funny stuff there as Alina will go to great lengths to make sure that she doesn't have to come home late ever again as she just wants to be working behind the desk.

Episode 1

Alina just wants a relaxing clerical job, but when a dragon proves too stubborn to beat for the adventurers, she decides to take it down herself using a massive hammer so she doesn't have to suffer the stress of working overtime. But the party's leader, Jade, manages to track her down and attempt to recruit her, and Alina severely intimidates him into keeping her secret. Jade hasn't given up on her, though, and another demanding adventurer showing up means more stress for Alina is bound to happen.

I hope there is an actual mystery around Alina's super-powers. She clearly doesn't train for combat regularly, and it's implied that her weapone may be a "Dia" skill, whatever that is.

I'm not fully on board yet, but I'll give it at least a couple more episodes.

So it's not bad enough that they ruined the first episode's main joke in the title, but they had to go and make sure they ruined it for anyone who managed to avoid reading the full title by telling it to you in the first 30 seconds. Which left the rest of the episode kind of boring and lifeless. It looks nice though and all the girls are very cute so hopefully it will get better and not end up wasting all that production work.

The single most relatable anime premise I've seen in a very long time. If you've never been stuck in overtime hell you're one lucky SOB.

Man, that OP is gorgeous.

And the protagonist is easy on the eyes, too.

The premise seems kinda thin, but I'm certainly willing to watch it for now. See how it develops.

Oh, and so far... NO STAT SCREENS! One can only hope.

Cloverworks production elevating the proceedings here. It was pretty cute; the only real question is how much mileage can they get from the premise?

The scene with the two party members shopping & donuts was probably meant to set up a contrast in that Alina feels like job security & stability is the greatest good, but she'll learn that the sense of camaraderie experienced in a party is worth the uncertainty of that line of work. Along with the standard "you don't have to take it all on yourself; depend on others" trope.

I'll keep watching.

Already loving Alina. She's become a bundle of pent-up rage due to all that overtime. She seems to take her work more seriously than most; as she was the only one doing overtime in the office. Hopefully she's at least getting paid for overtime. I do think she should let the work pile up more and force management to hire more workers.

I'll be curious to see the how balance between receptionist portion and the Executioner portion is handled as the show goes on. The perspective of receptionist is pretty interesting. Alina had a lot of colorful internal dialogue that's pretty relatable.

That was a pretty fun start. They didn't go overboard with the world-building and showcasing of the OP-ness of Alina's alter ego...
... she's still very OP though. xD

I won't expect this to solidly execute the secret identity gimmick-- I'd assume it's just gonna be more like a superhero approach similar to Shy where some people know who she is, and that we'd mostly see her as the receptionist than the mysterious adventurer. I'm guessing it's gonna be focusing more on her personal dilemma and such stuff.

I do like the dynamic between her and Jade though. Hopefully, we get lots of good comical moments from their shenanigans, since I don't see it coming elsewhere so far.

Good Smile has released a Nendoroid of Alina. Have to admit I'm disappointed they went with her guild receptionist attire instead of her dungeon clothes. Especially since they're including her giant hammer. I think giving her a desk to stand behind would have been a better call with that outfit, but at the offered price point it feels like Good Smile doesn't have a lot of confidence this one is going to fly off the shelves.

Nah I prefer her receptionist outfit, it matches the artwork (see first post) and that IS the combo when she confronted the guy trying to recruit her. Or they just want to go for volume.

Episode 2

Alina had a pretty rude adventurer trying to assault her cute assistant Laila, but Alina dealt with him in a professional manner. That complainer is none too pleased about that and tries to get revenge on her by unleashing an attack on the town with a captured clay golem. Alina's house gets destroyed by his attack, which pushes her over the edge and comes out as the Executioner to deal with him. But then comes the guild master, who has the power to see the past and finds out that Alina is the Executioner. Alina is doing a rather poor job covering her tracks there, though it takes some extraordinarily observant guys to figure out the truth. So first, Jade figures her out, and now the guild master does as well, though at least they are being respectful by talking about this matter privately. Pretty amusing episode that was as Alina is pretty funny when she's trying to cover up her alter ego.

Episode 2

The demanding adventurer, Slay, ends up commanding a clay golem to rampage through town, and Alina's house gets wrecked as collateral damage. Alina destroys the golem and gives Slay quite the scare, but the stress keeps piling on her, even while Jade offers to help her complete her paperwork so she can clock out sooner. And then the guild master, Glen Garia, manages to find out Alina's identity thanks to his skill that shows him the events of the battle. Now Glen has challenged Alina to a duel.

I know in Japan it's considered very desirable to get a job in government for the stability and assurance of a solid retirement. Clearly that's Alina's goal. Can't blame her, really. If it weren't for the overtime she'd have a job with steady pay and hours whereas I'm sure being an adventurer offers neither.

Curious where they're planning to take the story. Having her constantly trying to hide her identity could have been amusing, but probably would have gotten tiresome since it would hew so closely to superhero tropes. Of course, they could still have her trying to ensure no one else discovers she's the Executioner while being coerced into helping the Guild. ("If you do 'x' the Guild Master will make certain you don't have overtime this week.")

Too many holes in this story. If she just wanted a nice home and a secure future she should have just taken out a few dungeons, collected the treasure and retired. Though this is probably one of those settings where the guild can somehow force people to do what it wants. Even if that's the case she could just get rich and then leave country.

What did she think was going to happen at the end? Why else would he call her out to the training grounds except to see her in action.

This doesn't do a great job of switching between serious situations and comedic ones.

I think what we're missing is a sense of the economy. Do adventurers make a lot of money from quests? Or are they just a bunch of thrill-seekers and muscleheads out for an adrenaline rush and a chance to be famous—only making just enough to scrape by?

It's still being fairly entertaining but, Art and VA quality are definitely amplifying it.
I mean, if this had the art quality of Unwanted Undead Adventurer or I Parry Everything, I probably wouldn't care too much about this.

I'm really liking this. Cloverworks is doing a good job with the production, as expected. I also like the fact that I really don't know which way the story is going to go. I mean, joining Silver Sword would be the antithesis of everything Alina wants from a job. I like Jade's barely-repressed crush on her, and the quality of their banter. And the other two party members (and Alina's co-receptionist) seem to have distinct personalities as well. Also, both the OP and ED are great and worth not skipping.

Who wants to bet Jade has a secret side gig as well? Maybe his public face is adventuring, but moonlights doing administrative work...

Both, probably. I think they can make a lot of money, but it's a risky line of work, and all Alina wants is predictability and stability. I expect we'll see some backstory that fleshes out her motivations a little more.

You know it's a good show when it takes what should be a dumb concept and makes it into an entertaining story instead of just rehashing the initial gag over and over. Also the nice art and cute MC help, especially the short skirt. Gambate Jade-kun, I wouldn't give up on her either.
Well the backstory at least explains her mindset, becoming a receptionist came first and the power only came to help her out of the OT. So was that floating broken crystal important? Is it bad that jerk guy knocked it over?
Yeah sounds like this guild master guy will be blackmailing her into quests in return for no OT. Though of course this show hasn't been predictable yet so maybe not.

@Domvina

The flashback explained it. She had the job and the mortgage before she got the power, and she was using the power to preserve and enjoy the job and her home. That was all she cared about. To become an adventurer she would have to give up her receptionist job. Her goal isn't to be rich so she doesn't have to work and laze about. She just wanted her nice steady job, and enjoy her modest house and life. It's the ultimate irony she has to be an adventurer so she can enjoy that the way she planned. She obviously hates adventurers as their incompetence is what leads to her OT, among other things like the incident in this ep with the cocky, idiot, jerk.
It seems implied good adventurers would be constantly recruited and expected to go off adventuring. (probably like really good anime artists who became so good they thought it would lead to them not having to work as much and instead leads to them constantly being asked to do more work) There are lots of shows in this genre (like Killing Slimes) where someone just wants a quiet life and it leads to them becoming so powerful they ironically can't have a quiet life.

Episode 3

For a minute there, I thought that I played the end of the last episode since the show's ending is used as this episode's opening. As it turns out, this wasn't so much of a dual as it is Glenn assessing Alina's strength, and it turns out that she has the Dia skill, one of the rarest skills in the world. While Glenn agreed to leave Alina alone if she won, he makes a proposal to join Silver Sword for a quest at the Chalk Tower and in exchange Glenn will double the staff size of the guild so that Alina will never need to work overtime again. The quest involves fighting a monster with a Dia skill that Rufus suspects is the Executioner after the party Rufus led was killed. Alina ends up staying at Jade's mansion while she gets her house repaired, and she is reminded about Shroud when Jade goes off on a quest, and Shroud ended up being killed on that quest. As it turns out, Rufus killed his party members to used as sacrifices to revive the dark god Silha for his use, but after hearing all that Silha decides to kill Rufus and absorb his soul. Alina is in quite a tough situation, but at least she can trust Silver Sword, all while there are a lot of rogue adventurers about with Slay, and now Rufus among them.

Best episode so far! Action and struggles finally begin.

I like that they finally gave us some kind of reasoning as to why Alina would be against the idea of being an adventurer; She had a traumatic experience relating to it which also somewhat led to her being a receptionist. I also think that her using the receptionist job as an excuse for her reluctance to be an adventurer is just a subconscious in-denial light cover to her dark trauma.

I wonder if they're just gonna keep the themes switched from now; They had the ED as OP and the OP as ED this week. Works either way for me.

Episode 3

Glen freezes time, but Alina manages to break through, so Glen decides to make a compromise. Alina joins the Silver Sword for a venture into a new dungeon, the Chalk Tower, in exchange for Glen arranging for more receptionists to relieve Alina's workload. But the party decides to turn back once they reach the second floor and find another dead party. The only survivor of that party, Rufus, wants to go further up the tower with the Silver Sword, so they go without Alina, and she has a foreboding feeling about Jade's choice. It turns out that Rufus killed his own partymates to offer as sacrifices for the tower's boss, Silha. But Silha betrays Rufus and literally stabs him in the back. Now Silha's attention is squarely on the Silver Sword.

The opening and ending themes were switched this week; that was weird. My thought is it was to fit the theme of the nature of Glen's skill.

This is actually really good. I like the pacing, I like the characterizations, I like the banter, and so help me, they're actually getting decent mileage out of the central joke. The way Alina was throttling Glenn was pretty funny. Nice to get some Alina backstory, and the little romance between her and Jade is burning at just the right low intensity.

Yeah I thought that was a little weird too, but it would have been really awkward to have the bubbly regular ED after that super dark cliffhanger. Kind of like how it was jarring to have the normal upbeat Dandadan ED after episode 7.

Out of idle (Idol?) curiosity, does anyone know if the VAs for some characters use electronically altered voices? I would swear Lululee's voice could not be generated by a human throat. Not that it matters, really. Been done since Alvin and the Chipmunks if not earlier.

Crowds are pretty fickle things; I don't think he'd have much trouble whipping up a mob if he really wanted to, esp. since she has an unknown/legendary skill. And he wouldn't even have to convince them she's a monster, but just exposing her as the Executioner would be enough. Still—it is pretty ballsy to threaten all that with the guildmaster standing right there.

While that was the best ep so far the stuff with the guy from the other party was a definite weak spot. Very weak. Almost enough to bring the entire episode down. Anyway, what that shows me is that this anime does serious better than comedy.

I noticed in the previous episode the new tower was called the "White Tower" in that special quest that came out of the red gem. I guess when translating it into english, before turning it into that script, it didn't come out quite right.

I agree that made no sense. Especially because we got no indication that he knows The Executioner is Alina. He saw her but she had her hood on and he never said anything about knowing who she was, so there's no reason to think he recognized her. He simply said that she had the same kind of skill that the 'monster' had. Even if a few people did buy into what he might say it's hard to believe everyone would since The Executioner hasn't done anything except kill monsters. On top of that, Silver Sword, which appears to be pretty popular, and the guild master would refute anything he said.

It does seem like it. Even the animation when the characters are nudging around a bit has details in it, i.e. when Alina was standing by door contemplating about the Guild Master's offer, or when Jade stood up from the couch after having a conversation with Alina in her room-- it almost felt like Motion Capture.

Although, when it comes to movements in a wide background is where it feels awkward, i.e. when Jade was running and did drift break before positioning for the 'Taunt' skill.

Either they have put great effort in it, or they are beginning to use a lil bit of AI. If it's the latter, I won't complain if the result is this good.

I agree. It was so obvious. Not to mention the conclusion for it being him getting killed by the villain is so predictable.

The only benefit of having that guy's is: They established that some people perceive the Executioner (Alina) as a threat or something to be afraid of, even the Dia skill. But when it comes to having an excuse for the party to go back to the White Tower without Alina, they could've done better.

And now they completely change her story, last week "all I want is a quiet receptionist job with no OT" now "I always wanted to be an adventurer but then the adventurer I admired died and the last thing he told me was to be a receptionist". Ugh pick a lane and stay in it. Now I don't believe a single thing this show will say because they will retcon it the next ep. And yeah why did they go back without her? That was part of the deal that she help clear it. Did I miss him saying he didn't want her coming? I thought it was just he wanted to join. Pretty obvious she's going to see the stone and go rescue them anyway.
Also her normal clothes were stupid "I'm glad I got to see you in your normal clothes" I'm not. How do you design such a cute receptionist outfit and then do that?

It's her character arc. She originally wanted to be an adventurer, but was so emotionally scarred by the sight of someone she cared about dead as a result of adventuring, that she overreacted and defaulted to the least risky job imaginable. Not that much of a stretch.

He did want her to join, but 1) he was blackmailed by the traitor guy, and 2) he cares about her and wants to protect her from the dungeon that turned out to be more dangerous than they thought. There could be a rule about only up to 4 people to a party.

Opinion on cuteness aside I was curious to see does her normal clothes fit with the style of clothing worn by non-adventurer women in the series so I checked out the background characters. Other than her skirt being roughly knee-length instead of ankle length stylistically it's similar to what the average woman in the city wears. (It does have the few extra embellishments expected for a main character versus a background character.) It would seem the guild receptionists are, comparatively, scantily clad. Though looking at what some of the female adventurers wear it's not that out of place.

Episode 4

Silver Sword fights against Silha who has been powered up by Rufus, and Jade decides to confront him alone while telling Lowe and Lululee to retreat, and those two end up fighting against another tough dungeon boss themselves. Alina is alerted by her glowing gem that Jade is about to bite the dust and rushes towards the dungeon. Seeing that it's an emergency and that lives are on the line, Alina rushes towards the dungeon without her disguise and defeats the boss Lowe and Lululee were fighting. Then she confronts Silha and sees that Jade is on the verge of death, and is able to knock him down to come to Jade's aid. But Silha can regenerate having swiped Lululee's power, and needs to be defeated in one blow. So Alina powers up and takes all of his attacks without a scratch, and then delivers the big blow to defeat Silha. As it turns out, Silha is just one of several Dark Gods as he warns the party that other Dark Gods are preparing to strike, but before he could finish, Alina finishes him. So after all that, Glenn agrees to keep Alina's secret safe and instructs the guards to not tell about it, but there's no staff increase as Alina will have to continue to endure overtime hell. While Alina didn't get what she wanted, at least she saved a life, which is far more important then clocking out on time everyday.

Episode 4

Silha can steal skills! Jade tries to hold him back while Lowe and Lululee escape, but they're soon pinned down by a large monster. Alina notices Jade's gem glowing and rushes to the tower and smashes the monster, then rushes to save Jade. It takes a while considering Alina's skill is on the same caliber as Silha's, but she ultimately knocks him down in one blow to keep him from regenerating via the healing skill he stole from Lululee. Alina had to expose her identity to some guards to get to the tower, but Glen orders them to keep quiet about it. Silha's last words about there being more dark gods out there sounds ominous, but Alina has to endure something more ominous than that: more overtime.
Failure is always an option.

That was disappointing. They predictably stretched out Alina's arrival to save the Hero party, then they butchered their first opportunity to showcase Alina having a good fight scene with her first official big boss fight; Could've helped elevate the "Other Dark Gods" for future stuff. But how could the viewers care about those when they saw how this one was done, battle animation and story-wise.

I guess the animation budget only goes to Alina's character model since that boss fight against a "Dark God" looked too plain and boring as heck.

Rom-Com wise, it's working just fine. I'll keep watching but that'll be my expectation of this show now every time I do-- it's a Cutesy Rom-Com... not Comedy/Action.

I guess her skirt is magic too :/ Also even though she got shredded by dozens of swords, no new wounds showed up and she is unfazed by multiple sword slices. I don't know I'm waiting for this to wow me, and it looks nice and everything but so far it's predictable and boring. She's cute but she's just so paint by numbers cute it's not doing anything for me. She's too cute. Also why is she the only girl (well and that other one) that has to work over time? If they'd all do it they'd be done in no time. And why the hell is there so much paperwork anyway? Where are they storing all these files, for what purpose? This whole concept, I get it haha poking fun at modern tedious office work in Japan. But it's just kind of lame. And the fight with blonde Broly was...oooh his parts disappear when smashed and he can still talk when just half a torso...they bleed how about some actual physical enemies? Why did he need a "heal" skill if he doesn't even have a normal body? Ugh I'm ranting I better stop. Just wanted this to be better :(

(also is she riding a giant Archaeopteryx in the OP? it finally clicked what it was this ep)

How many hours were they 'almost dead' before she got there?

What happened to the guild master doubling the number of receptionists? Maybe he hasn't been able to hire them yet, however, if that's the case she should have said something about not being able to wait until they get more help. I have a feeling it won't happen though just so we can continue with this oh so hilarious gag.

Hiding her identity doesn't really seem to be a problem as every time she blows her cover there is some excuse for why it didn't matter.

Also how is everyone hugging Jade, who is absolutely covered in blood, and not getting a drop of it on them? She's wearing a white blouse at that.

Nice of the bad guy to just sit and wait for her to arrive and not finish Jade off or chase the other two.

@runec
Well she herself was sliced open by a dozen large swords and her wounds only bled right along the cut, apparently people in this world's blood coagulates super fast. 9_9
Again why the show with the guy and his former students is so good they actually got covered in blood and took the time to wash it off.

Edit: read the manga, in the manga she pushes him away and literally says "don't hug me, you'll get blood all over my uniform" and is never touched by a single sword...weird the anime changed that...
Also in the manga Jade plays dead as soon as he hears Alina is on the 2nd floor (which happens simultaneously) and starts healing himself, the demon god actually thinks Jade is dead.
