I hope this tournement is over and we can move on.

with only 2 episodes left, there can't be much to move on to. Seems like half of the season will have been taken up by this meaningless tournament.
@HOOfan_1

Agreed; it’s unfortunate because that whole “find the six gems to look for X” plot sounded really interesting and something to follow up on; if a season 2 is greenlit I hope we get further with that. My guess is this tournament was meant to make Angelica sympathetic to us, the viewers, after coming across as so despicable in the beginning.

If I had to take a guess- the source material is a Light Novel and given typical adaption rates of 3-4 volumes a season, they’re probably looking to end at the conclusion of a volume so that the ending, while open ended, will still be satisfying

……….

Don’t want to double post so in general about the latest episode: I personally have a level of disdain for physically strong, arrogant characters because they are overdone and predictable, so Broughston being impossibly strong but also humble enough to acknowledge others is a refreshing interpretation of a character.

Seeing him acknowledge this opponent the way he did; despite the opponent being in an impossible fight, Broughston never belittled him or made him “feel like an insect”, instead he did acknowledge the strength for what it was, and he did give the fighter the respect he deserved.

Even if the fight was one sided, character wise it was well done

We've gotten so far away from that I actually forgot that was the plot.

And yeah, it's a light novel series. It's not interesting enough for me to read the LNs to see how far along it is though. It has to be super trashy for me to read the LNs. >.>

Really? It wasn't strength of character that drove Rick forward but the promise of poontang? I'm not sure what sort of message this show is trying to convey.

But yes, in the middle of our climatic fight is definitely the best time for flashback exposition.

Episode 11:

Well we're not really in the middle of anything. Now seems like a good time for a chat.

I have to say- one thing I'm really appreciating about this series is Angelica's character development; she's gone from being outright despicable in the early episodes to being quite likable by this point. (but she'll only be truly likeable once we know for certain she doesn't think Rick is 40 something anymore)

Just when the action was getting fairly good, Broughston decided to reminisce in front of thousands of people that paid to see a fight. xD

Also, they really be trying to make Lizard man a likable character and even had him hangout with the MCs? That dude had his former fiance beaten up so bad even though it was hinted that he really did like her. If there's not gonna be a twist regarding this, then it just simply makes no sense.
Even the Inn lady seemingly forgot about the bald dude harassing her, watching the matches along with him when she's so much more of a friend to the protagonist' group than the Lizard dude. xD

@Trivia-man-Frank I agree. And not just her character alone but her relationship-building with Rick as well.
I tend to compare her relationship growth with Rick to Kaiju No. 8's Kafka and Kikoru's since both pairing has quite a similar dynamic. Unlike Kikoru who seemingly immediately fell for Kafka after witnessing a few acts of kindness/heroism, Angelica is still in a admiration and respect status towards Rick, even after his knight-and-shining-armor moment to help her. It's a well-paced relationship development that's requiring a lot of events and involvement for it to progress. It's one of the good things this Anime has going, and I hope they keep it that way.

That may have been the best episode so far. Pretty good fight, and the final motivation to enter the arena made complete sense to me.

Message? We aint got no message. We don't need no message. We don't have to convey any stinkin' message!

I assmued after everyone else couldn't get through to him it would take Reanette to offer something only she could. She obviously has been saving it knowing this day would come.
What's with all the modern clothes everyone is wearing? I keep forgetting this is supposed to be in a fantasy setting.
Yeah the lets stop fighting and talk was almost as lame as the lizard guy and bald guy still hanging out with their victims. Women in this world sure get over sexual predators pretty easily 9_9

Well, that went absolutely nowhere, especially since they ended on the tournament...which ended up being half the show anyway.

I thought about giving the show a 6.5...but making me listen to that horrible ED song to see all of the ending dialogue knocks off that .5

As expected, the chatty first part of the show took away hype for this season finale. It did introduce a new character, but it felt like it did more damage than good. With the author of the legendary book that inspired Rick to be an adventurer turning out to be -apparently- a former member of the Hero's party, I have a feeling that it's gonna be one of those diversion twists where he gets to be revealed as a mini-boss who wanted to collect the 6 gems for himself, or something like that to stretch things out before the MCs encounter the main Big Boss. But that's a worry for later.
The bout itself did feel like it hit the right emotions, but it's definitely hurt by the lacking animation, especially the final blow after they bumped heads. That should've at least had some cinematography shots and effects even with low-quality animation.

The way I see it, the purpose of this season is just to established which characters are gonna be a regular part of the story, and also Rick's power level now being on par with the Orichalcum Fist, making them an official S-tier level party for when the big deal enemies start showing up one by one.

As much as I liked the middle part of this show a lot, with how they handled Angelica's character development and involvement with Rick's party quite quickly but not rushed, and the pacing of showcasing Rick's power level: from his obliviousness about his capabilities, to realizing that he has already improved when the exams ended, to his confident toying around of Geith, to then managing to be on par with Broughston BUT only if his inherent skill is activated. They handled some stuff really well.
But with that being said, it doesn't change the fact that the earlier episodes felt quite generic and slow, and the latter part of the tournament arc were pretty much disappointing.

It's a 6/10 for me-- 6.5 if I'll consider the lovely ED.

Suddenly DBZ.

6/10. It would be a 5 but it gets a point for having actual character development for Angelica.

Also it was implied there that his new dream is to bang Reanette.

I would watch a show about Buff Horse.

That's ... a kind of growth too right? Earlier he dismissed it because of the age difference. That's ... well it's a change at any rate.

6/10 because the MC stays dumb as a box of rucks until the end. If this had been a MC from last season he would have ended up in the hot spring with both girls.

Well, I looked forward to watching it, so it was doing something right. I have a bit of a problem with people being capable of such ridiculous physical levels through training. The human body starts breaking down at a point. I don't mind the tournament so much, since it was used to get one of the jewels they need, and it resulted in some backstory for Broughston.

Doesn't it get extra points for being a fantasy world without an edgelord isekai protag?

@marklebid

The protagonist has to be BOTH not an edgelord and not overpowered.

@marklebid I'll give it 1/3rd of a point for not having a harem.

Meh, yeah feel the same as everyone else. This show kind of mislaed us all into thinking we would get a fun adventure and instead it was just a typical fighting show with training montages...yawn. Broughston's story and his party helping him was ok but Rick having the inate power to fight him already kinda negated the whole needing extreme training didn't it? And yeah what are they saiyajin? Normal humans can't do that. Well whatever, I guess we expect too much anymore with shows like One Punch Man and Mob Psycho the bar for fight sequences has been set a little too high for shows with mediocre budgets and talent. <shrug>
