@runec It's always impressive when a single episode can jettison so many viewers.

*Lots* of new Reviews on CR site after that episode.

Seems that if it has anything to do with goblins it has to have something to do with rape or a lack of female goblins.
Slime was the black sheep of the Isekai fantasy genre.
Sadly my brother is really enjoying this show.
I swear, his taste is entirely in his ass.

Let that be a lesson. Don't go telling guys they can do anything to you they want if they beat you. You might not like what they want to do.

@Xuhybrid We're talking about a country where "rape till ahegao" is a common porn/hentai trope.

Somebody somewhere is taking notes. Then probably drawing a doujin. >.>

Episode 7

And now, Ogaro goes up against the bone bug brave Phillippo, an insect humanoid who turns soldiers into zombie bugs. These bugs prove to be pretty tough seeing that Phillippo managed to get a hit on Ogaro. But Ogaro is continuing to evolve and gain new abilities to show Phillippo who's boss. However, Phillippo ends up running away as he's able to shed. his skin and flee. Ogaro's army suffered a number of losses, and the fallen soldiers end up getting cremated since they could return as zombies. As strong as Ogaro is, even he was bound to suffer some losses.

So, the humans are attacking the forest specifically go get the cure for their princess. Oguro wants to give them the cure to stop the war, Oguro doesn't want to lose any more of his followers...but for some reason instead of just giving the humans the cure as soon as he decided to to it, he wanted to fight another battle where 30 of his people died....yeah that all made sense.

I mean, I guess "stuff" is happening, but none of it makes sense, and none of it seems to be playing out to an ultimate goal....I'll actually take "Reincarnated as a Slime: This Could Have Been an E-mail" over this nonsense.

Well, that was certainly a "fight". The ol' budget must be pretty slim.

I brought in my giant centipede to beat you but I can't call it back because its been 20 seconds so its too far away now.

I got butt naked and ran away but you can't catch me because its been 20 seconds so I'm too far away now.

Why didn't he eat the tentacles and stuff he left behind? They technically count.

Episode 8

Now that Ogro and company have reaped all the spoils of war with their overwhelming victory over the humans, they are not using it to make the village a luxurious place to live. From farming crops to building hot springs, and creating monsters out of raw materials, Ogro and company are building up their place, all while his comrades continue to get stronger so that if their crushing of the humans wasn't a deterrent enough, then whoever opposes them next will certainly do the job. And after the work is done, everybody is sent their separate ways to do an assignment. Things are about to get really quiet.

Re:Who The Fark Even Are All These Characters?

It's bad enough everyone randomly evolves and gets new names but now it just bulk adds like 15 characters. I don't think it even gave them names.

Then they all go home? I thought they lived here. So 15+ people showed as recruits then left? What is even happening?

That's exactly what I was thinking. We thing Reincarnated as a Slime is bad with introducing a million characters, well as least it took 2 seasons to do it and at least gave us some backstory to them...here they just dump a boatload of characters on us in a 5 minute segment...

Episode 9

It's off to Trient where Ogro is looking to make some money by presenting themselves as a mercenary company, all while giving the girls a choice of whether to stay in the town and live with the humans or to return home. Ogro takes on a human disguise and notices that a bunch of brutes are wearing the same ring, and they saved a knight tasked with protecting a princess along the way, but little did he know that this would present a big job opportunity for him. So after getting all their shopping done, the princess he's protecting, Ruvilia, requests Ogro's services to escort her to the royal capital, and wouldn't take no for an answer even though she has her guards, going as far as to offer enough money to buy a small country for the job. While the way to the capital is full of monsters, they are no problem for Ogro, and even the jade eagles are no match. He fights their boss, something that's totally nuts, but he was just toying around before getting serious, and they got a stone that's rare, even among blessing-level beasts. The princess sure is a handful to deal with and it will be interesting to see what her story is as she's over her head about a lot of things.

I think this is the most coherent of a story an episode has had so far.

He could at least learn the names of the girls in his harem.

Also, yes, I'm sure the victims-er, mothers are doing well.

"I eat the people I defeat to honor their memory"....well, you sure seem to find plenty of reasons to try and eat people though...

At least they gave us the context that he was a psychopath in his old life too. Guess they won't get around to telling us why that woman stabbed him to death though, other than maybe he ate he friend or something

@HOOfan_1 I'm going to guess she got reincarnated somewhere in this world too since they showed us her character in the first place.

Episode 10

The journey continues as Ogro continues to gain new abilities. But then a big problem happens as shortly after leaving Mason, the two human sisters on the journey get pregnant all of the sudden and not only that, but the pregnancy cycle was accelerated. While pregnancy cycles are different in this world, for it to happen in a day is just unheard of. But Ogro managed to pull through by feeding his own flesh, as well as performing the C-section to safely deliver the mixed-bloods Oro and Argento, Italian words for gold and silver due to the color of their orbs. And while the sisters recuperate, Ogro fights more monsters and helps a human army out. After all that, Ogro has evolved again, now taking on the name Yaten-doji. But not all is well and good as there was an error in the process and he doesn't have all the abilities he thought he was getting. While I knew that pregnancies worked different in this world, I never thought that the cycle would be so fast that a child can be born within a day of realizing that somebody is pregnant.

That was too specific to not be the author's fetish. Instant preggers and make out vore.

Also he finally addresses the girls by their names after he knocks them up? Is that how the rules work?

You would think the other girls would be a lot more wary about sexy time with him after watching the instant starvation pregnancy.

@runec I wouldn't be surprised if he was really feeding them something else, and they changed it for broadcast...

Author's priorities led to the no-stretch no-scar outcome though.

Episode 11

And two more monster babies are born after a pregnancy that lasted only a day. After pushing onward, Ogro and company meet up with a couple of familiar faces even if they have gotten much bigger as Ogrekichi and Earthe have been terrorizing adventurers who have been venturing into the dungeon. So Ogro decides to challenge now-minotaur Ogrekichi to a duel, and there were quite a lot of fireworks in it to say the least in this fight.

I'm surprised the red head hasn't gotten super pregnant yet.

I see the whole "You don't get a name till you get knocked up" rule is still in effect.

How did one of his kids come out pure human? Shouldn't they at least be half and half? Human genetics don't work like that.

Did he launch ogre guy into orbit?

Episode 12 (Finale)

Right off the bat, Ogro and company escort the princess safely to the royal capital after parting ways with Earthe and Ogrekichi. For a job well done, everybody gets the VIP treatment, being treated to a fancy dinner and luxurious lodgings. And afterwards, it back to the cave where it has been transformed into a palace, and the fields have been upgraded so that the place is self-sustaining. And then the village chief Gobji passes away and as he was in his 20's that the lifespan of a goblin is short. Then Ogro holds a fighting tournament, and afterwards the show ends with Ogro being asked to take another job by the princess. Lots of stuff was crammed into this final episode, but at least it found a suitable enough stopping point.

Final Thoughts

This show had a promising start despite its low production values that Deen typically puts into most shows, but while this show has an interesting concept and a relatable MC, the show simply failed to capitalize on its early momentum. Among the good things about this show are the character development, the show's concept of monster evolution, and storytelling that made this something that peaked my interest. But on the flipside, the story writing was all over the place, the pacing went way too fast, and the biggest mistake it makes is introducing way too many characters in a short amount of time that it was hard to keep up with most of them. And of course, while they at least did a better job with this show than Banished Former Hero, the show's animation quality and production values exactly didn't do this show any favors. So in all, it was entertaining enough to watch, but it could have been so much better had the show capitalized on its early momentum as things just moved way too fast.

So, why exactly is this an isekai? They never even explained his murder in his former life. What exactly was his motivation for all of this, just to create a company of mercenaries? It's like someone watched Reincarnated As a Slime and said "you know what this needs? More rape, and cannibalisms".

I actually thought this might be a good show after the first episode, but it went absolutely nowhere.

I feel like an entirely different and probably more entertaining show took place off camera with the cat people and building the stronghold.

The entire show just felt kinda pointless and constantly changing character designs/names made it hard to root for anyone as they'll just be a different character in another episode or two.

And yes, there was no reason this had to be an isekai.

4/10.

@HOOfan_1 I think the reason for the isekai bit was that he somehow brought his power that allows him to learn skills by eating his opponent from his past life. That and getting to call his mercenary group Parabellum.

@Astral_Iguana Neither of which called for it to be an isekai really. Plus, like Hoofan said, there was a plot set up to his death before the isekai and it just never came up again. Maybe if it had come up again as a complication somewhere like stabby lady reincarnating into the same world.

Had a lot of potential but failed to capitalise on it. Also felt a lot different to the source material and petered out at the end. The annoying thing about the story is people changing names constantly. I already can't remember their names without them being changed.

I watched this show all the way to the end. I'm not really sure why. I guess, I was bored on Mondays since I don't have to work anymore, and it wasted time. I'll be generous and give it a 5/10 just because if there is a sequel, I'll want to see where the hell it goes.

@runec I honestly wasn't trying to defend it, it's just they're the only reasons that I can see that it's an Isekai.

As far as I know, the original is pretty old, before Isekai stories were as popular (the author of Mushoku Tensei credits the original LN as an inspiration for his work) so it certainly wasn't written to cash in on the genre...

Rifujin's Statement in an interview: "I started writing in 2012, when I picked up "Re: Monster" in a bookstore. I learned of its existence because the imprint of "Re:Monster" said it was a work published on Let's Become a Novelist. From there, I read the unpublished continuation of "Re:Monster" on Let's Become a Novelist, and various other works... As a result, "Mushoku Tensei" was born. So, without "Re: Monster", I wouldn't be here today. I really can't thank Mr. Kanagiri enough."

@Astral_Iguana The idea of this inspiring anyone is somewhat alarming but I suppose it's hard to argue with the case of Mushoku Tensei.

I wasn't aware this series was that old.
