The art direction and dialogue in this series is brilliant. The aesthetic hooked me from the start but I started to realize how well written it is in nearly every sense as well after an episode or two.

I can’t believe how this show manages to keep you engaged with the amount of conversation there is at times and it’s one of my favorite things about it so far. I also like how the sub-arcs contribute to what seems like an overarching narrative. I’ve seen this approach used with other shows I really liked a lot (like Paranoia Agent) and it really keeps your mind busy with speculation.

I have really never seen anything like it before and I hope the rest of the series is similar in these ways because this is rising to my favorites list. I can see why it’s held in such high regard.

Glad you’re enjoying it! It’s peak!
You should pick up the LN or the manga if you like it, although the manga isn’t exactly cannon, but still good nonetheless.

My peak senses were going off within a few episodes lol. The visual style alone is enough to pull you in, seriously. It’s just different and catches your eye. Then add in the rest of it (plot, dialogue, character monologues, characters etc) and it’s just amazing so far.

I do plan to check out the LN’s after I see all of the anime. I’ll finish Bake tonight and move onto the next entry most likely.

Im really glad youre enjoying it, Monogatari without a doubt was one of the most unique and interesting experiences ive had with anime so far
And dont worry about the quality, its one of those shows that keeps getting better and better with every entry, hope you can enjoy the rest as well!

That is awesome to hear. Every episode so far has been great. There’s not one time yet I thought “ah… that episode was kind of ‘meh’ compared to…”. Like all of them have been equally engaging so far for me

I mean Monogatari Series does have its ups and downs. The main reason people don’t watch it sooner is mostly because its so weird you kinda have to have watched a decent amount of anime first before you can enjoy it in all of its weird glory.

imma be real, some of the short entries, since they mostly just flesh out specific characters, can vary depending on whether you like the character or not obviously
but the mainline entries (Bake-, Nise-, Second Season, Owari- and Zuko Owari) are all 9/10-10/10 material and they manage to create a certain flow that is very hard to break out of once you get sucked in, definetely a one of a kind experience over all

It is so terrible. Boring monotone dialogue where they say so much without saying anything at all. Random flashing frames. The only reason anyone likes it is because they are a lolicon.

You and I evidently seem to share some taste. But I did not enjoy this part 1 of the series. Main character made it hard to wanna continue watching it. Idk, the show borderlines smut and makes me feel uncomfortable

It’s uphill from here too. Show has some of the best editing I’ve ever seen. It feels like something this weird and niche shouldn’t be as good as this, but it is. Absolutely peak anime. It’s perfect in both filmmaking and narrative.

Perfect time to start with the new seasons coming.

I reckon Second Season is the peak. Particularly Nadeko's arc in that. But its quality is generally pretty consistent.

Congratulations on getting into it. It's an awesome and really long ride. Everything else that this author, Nisioisin, is known for is also great. Also, after watching Monogatari, you will gain a 6th sense and be able to recognize whenever this animation studio, SHAFT, has touched a project. Many of their other projects have similar animation and cinematography and dialogue.

I mean I can definitely understand that. I finished Bake very quickly

I actually feel like the things you are mentioning are pretty mild (at least in Bakemonogatari) compared to some shows but sometimes it just differs person to person and how sensitive they are to those things

It really is in its own league as far as direction and art style. I thought every episode was brilliant in Bake and enjoyed the whole thing.

I was obviously really happy to hear that I have new seasons to look forward to watching after I get caught up with the series too

One of the great things about the show is how it tells it story and builds it up. Seemingly one note characters one back for a big impact. Season 2 has my 2 fsvorite arcs and owari has my favorite characters. And Ononoki- Chan is my favorite character she appears later

I actually have a few others from the same studio or director that I need to add to my PTW on here so I don’t forget about them. I enjoyed the art style of this one a lot

So I just finished Bake and will start the Kizu movies tonight. I love the way the smaller arcs connect to the overarching events. I had recently finished Paranoia Agent which used a similar type of pattern and loved that

That generalization coming from someone who rated MiA highly? Must be a troll. Ah well…

Same, I heard so many great things about it for like 8 years and I only decided it to check it out just recently and got my mind blown. Also, the last 2 LNs out right now are getting adapted into 2 new seasons in 2024, so you might want to wait for SHAFT’s adaptations before experiencing their stories through the LN.

I learned this today actually and was really excited to hear there are going to be new seasons. Definitely wasn’t expecting that. I’ll be looking forward to joining those discussions once I’m caught up and they start to air

I’m glad I can see that someone else enjoys the series immensely the Monogatari series is a phenomenal series and there’s truly nothing else like it and it is a series. It actually uses fan service properly and it actually helps to tell the story.

There have definitely been some… questionable (ka ka…) moments but overall it has been a series with better character development than almost anything I’ve seen before. It’s great (I’m currently on Nekomonogatari). There has not been a single boring or half baked episode yet
