| Welcome to the Best 2023 Anime Character Tournament, where we will decide the best character from the past year. The nomination phase begins now and will last until Saturday, January 27, at 10:00 p.m. EST. Here are the basic rules for this tournament: 1. Eligible series must have begun and/or ended in 2023, and must have a maximum confirmed episode length of 104 episodes for series that began in January, 91 episodes for series that began in April, 78 episodes for series that began in July, and 65 episodes for series that began in October. Series with discontinuous seasons or split cours are allowed, but only the episodes that aired in the past year will be taken into consideration. Also, OVA's are allowed if more than one episode aired in 2023, but stand-alone movies are not. 2. Eligible characters must have appeared in at least two episodes that aired in 2023. Again, characters from series with discontinuous seasons or split cours are allowed, but only if said characters appeared in episodes that aired in the past year. 3. You can nominate characters from as many series as you wish. A single person can only nominate a particular character once. Nominations should be put in the following format: Character name, Anime title Please separate your nominations by gender, as there will be a men's and a women's bracket; the two brackets will be running concurrently. Multiple nominations for the same character from different people are encouraged, as they will be taken into account for the seeding process. Any ties after the nomination process ends will be broken by random draw. 4. A single person can nominate a maximum of four male and four female characters from the same series. Also, a maximum of four characters from a single series will be allowed into a single bracket. If after the nomination process ends there are more than four male or four female characters from a single series nominated, the top four of each gender after resolving ties will be given priority, and all others will be excluded from the final seeding process. The 32 characters from each gender with the most nominations will be selected for the tournament. 5. The single-elimination tournament will play out like the Anime/Manga Character Face-Off, with a few tweaks. Here, the character who reaches ten points first, or the highest score after 24 hours, wins and advances to the next round. If after 24 hours there is a tie, the character who reached the tying point first wins. You may only vote once per match. You must post your vote, as well as the current score after taking your vote into account. 6. After the semifinals of each bracket, there will be a third-place match between the two losers of the semifinals before the finals. The final match is first to fifteen points within 24 hours. Here is the tentative schedule for the main tournament: January 28 - January 31: First round (8 matches a day alternating between men's and women's brackets) February 1 - February 2: Second round (Men's bracket matches on Thursday, women's bracket matches on Friday) February 3: Quarterfinals (Matches in both brackets running concurrently) February 4: Semifinals February 5: Third-place matches February 6: Finals |

| Because they are not stand-alone episodes, characters from the two Final Chapters specials of Attack on Titan will be allowed into this tournament. For the purposes of this tournament, Hange Zoe from Attack on Titan and Francois from Dr. Stone will be classified as female because the characters' VA's are female in both subbed and dubbed versions. |
