Another thing about Sailor Moon.
Nostalgia means nothing when the dub has gone through 3 different iterations.
Was a bit confused when I started watching it.
The characters don't sound anything like they did in my memories and the theme song was different (Not that this version I own has the english version) including the video itself, but supposedly that was because the original english dubbed version had too many spoilers in the first opening theme that it was rectified and the proper uncut Japanese version was used later.
And thus far it also seems to be the proper uncut version because I'm pretty sure Zoisite was made female in the older English version, but in this version Zoisite is male.
My nostalgia failing me could also be because a later season was aired on Cartoon Network/whatever television station was playing it in New Zealand at the time, I can't remember that well because I was like 6 or 7 at the time.

Wow, MAL. Just Wow. How much further do you plan to ruin the forums more than this? You ruined pasting links, ruined quoting, ruined the entire layout. What else do you plan?

I take it as a challenge.
Trying to make proper quotes without fudging something.
Kinda like seeing a gif from a show and trying to figure out the show without using reverse image search.
It was fun last night trying to organize the hairstyle hunt cause quoting yourself is really odd.

I don't think so, I think it was the Toonami/Cartoon Network Dub.
Honestly I can't really tell, because I don't remember whether or not Toonami or Cartoon Network shows appeared on standard television back in 1996/1997.
But to be frank, other than a few random moments I can't remember anything from before 2000 when I moved to the South Island.
There's two games that have been eluding me for over 20 years now.
One was a horror demo for PS1 and the other was an old Commodore 64/Amiga game on floppy disk that had a kickass soundtrack for a vertical shooter.
But the current dub for Usagi and most of the Dark World denizens sound weird to me.
And the opening seems weird, but like I said before, it could just be for another season.
But it sounds right, but it's in Japanese, so it could be that I did first hear the DiC dub, because that version spoiled pretty much everything about S1 in the very first opening for the first episode.
But that's ok, because save for Inuyasha and Pokemon I prefer watching sub.

So in addition to the old DiC dub and the uncut Viz dub the third dub is the edited version of the Viz dub for TV?

I agree.
But it is a tradition and the little extra time it takes to sort the quotes out is nothing like the times when Crunchyroll broke and we had to do everything via manual BBCode inputs.
I actually developed something like muscle memory when it came to posting during those times.
Like when Wigflip died all those times and we had to use different sources.

SHINOBI-03 said:

If I read things correctly there was the DiC dub, the Cartoon Network/Toonami Dub and now the Viz media dub.
I'm not sure which one is which other than the one I have is the uncut Viz dub.
I think the Viz dub was done in 2017 or somewhere around there.
But I'm just pleased that the version I bought was not the "Sensible for American audiences" version.
Nothing pisses me off more than censorship due to foreign sensibilities.

Provided you think there's anything official about Sentai Filmworks translations and notes.
Salty joke aside, yes it is from HiDive.
The show itself is quite dark, couldn't really tell that from the promo trailer I saw on one of my dvd collections, barring the name of the show itself.
I find new shows to watch from the dvd and blu-ray trailers from my collection.
I've watched so much now that it's getting hard to find shows that aren't huge disappointments.

Seitokai Yakuindomo S2 OVA

I also started reading the Spice and Wolf LN series.
And I'm only a chapter in and it feels so satisfying reading a book that wasn't manga after all this time.
And it's also more gratifying than when I was reading Strawberry Panic.
I've also been keeping up with the fanslations of Parallel Paradise and I can say that I'm glad I didn't start buying the series, even with the shitty translation job every second chapter.
I don't get why people translate manga when they can't even speak English properly.

In darker news.
New Zealand is turning into America at an alarming pace.
In the last 7 days there have been 5 stabbings,2 of which were fatal in my part of town, 1 case of a group of people driving around firing shots at Hotels/Motels and businesses as they go past, 3 violent unarmed assaults, 2 assaults with guns and one break in to an old person's home where the burglar beat the ever loving shit out of the old lady who was living there while her grandkids were staying over and ripped out her breathing tube so she died.
But he will get caught, because he took his shoes off before he went inside, realized that she had died after having her breathing tube ripped out and fled without his shoes.
And that's only in the city I live in.
In the North Island there have been even more shootings, violent break ins, ram raids, assaults on dairies and gang related violence because a couple of Australian gangs have come over here and started fighting with the local gangs.

There used to be a time when I was proud to be a New Zealander.
And now the only difference between us and America are the fact that no cops have been done for murdering coloured folk yet and the obvious size of our countries.

About that date...

The date itself went well. What happened afterwards was...

We've both decided to do couple's blood tests just in case to see if we were biologically compatible. An hour after the test I received a call telling me to go the hospital immediately. Why? My test results showed a dangerously low count of platelets in my system because my immunity decided to hate my platelets for a reason. It was so severe that I was forced to stay in hospital for the last two days taking frequent blood samples and feeding insulin and steroids in my veins and the pills I had to take to weaken my immune system. Luckily the treatment worked so I was discharged today but I'm now stuck with the many pills and tablets I need to take for the next month.

Where was this from Cells at Work?

On a very better news, not only I never had Type-2 Diabetes all these years, but the biological compatibility test results came clean: We are fit for a healthy life style.

The one where the guys body is so fucked up that all the cells get put through some pretty nasty situations.

The camera in question makes gunshot noises every time you use it.
Which leads to a funny moment where the quiet boy saves the day by chasing the evil skinless/headless chickens around while taking photos of them.

I also watched Gugure! Kokkuri-san.
It was really fun to watch.
But, the problem was with Sentai's captions, the inserts for explaining gags and the translations.
They even used an Urban Dictionary term to explain what one of the phantoms was.
I don't get it.
Sentai Filmworks is a big name in the anime licensing and distribution scene.
So why do that fudge so many simple things?
Why can't they get competent translators?
Trying to report problems to Sentai and HiDive is even more pointless than trying to get a decent result out of Funimation.

On the topic of Funimation.
Remember when I said I made that ticket to Crunchyroll about Tonikawa?
That was all going fine except that didn't update me for a month, and then I said when they got back to me that I was having problems authenticating my account for the new website so I couldn't make posts on anything other than the old forum news articles.
They resolved that immediately and then CLOSED my ticket calling it resolved.
So I made a new ticket last week and haven't even got a confirmation that it has been received.
Things are quickly turning to shit ever since Funimation took over.
First they bought AnimeLab from Madman removing the ONLY streaming service that Australia and New Zealand had that was specifically ours with no problems with show availability.
And now they have Crunchyroll resulting in the forums going away and their customer service turning to total shit.

At least for the ram raids.

I'd love to say it can't but that would be jinxing everyone.
But I mean, other than rewinding and subtitles HiDive works ok for not having been updated for 4-5 years, at least as far as the xbox app goes.
Supposedly it's been about a year or two since the mobile/chromecast whatever it is app has been updated.
But contacting customer service for anything other than account problems is pointless because they just direct you to a form you can fill out to make suggestions so they aren't listening either.
I guess Sentai cares more about physical releases than their streaming platform.
It really is such a shame they have so many old shows and unlike Sony they are willing to license shows that make your grandparents pass out.

Works fine for me.
I just copy the BBCode from Imgur when I upload images and copy the direct to forum/message board threads.

And for the first time in years there are some interesting anime/manga releases for my birth month.
Volume 8 of Interspecies Reviewers, Volume 24 of the Spice and Wolf LN, physical release of Non Non Biyori S3 or the movie, can't remember and a brand new Re-release of Gunbuster collectors edition which has artbook and producer interview.
Already pre-ordered it, I hope they re-release Daibuster too.
Would be nice to cut down all the shows I would have to watch on fansub sites.

Also turns out that KyoAni has announced they will be opening their store for anime merch worldwide.

On another Crunchyroll topic, you know about the instances when episodes are using the subtitles from a different show? You know why this error keeps happening without correcting it before release times? Today I found out why. The reason is because none of the people handling this stuff are allowed to watch said episodes. The editors slab whatever they're receiving but are not allowed to watch the video to see if it's matching or not and the reason is to prevent content leaks. The only staff allowed to watch before the simulcast are the translators. Anybody else is prohibited from it, and due to this no one can run a quick quality check to see if they got the right files. They go as blind as the average viewer.

I've never run into a problem with shows on Crunchyroll other than availability.
That being said, I don't watch seasonal shows unless it's something I've been waiting on for donkeys.
From my experience, I've only ever had show problems from HiDive and Funimation.
But if that's right, it honestly doesn't make sense.
However, with Funimation and Sony holding the reins I can't wait for the time when subtitles fall off shows and episodes get swapped around.
Did you know that in this seasons release calendar several links to shows were swapped around?
But that was only for the news article, the video page was correct however.

On the subject of Crunchyroll however.
It seems that Amazon is slowly relinquishing it's hold on certain shows.
This morning Crunchyroll managed to get the license for Season 1 of Jashin-chan Dropkick.

Oh, and they closed my first ticket for Tonikawa: Over the Moon For You after resolving my problem with my account not being authenticated on the new website.
Without resolving the primary reason why my ticket was placed.
So I placed another ticket yesterday morning.
And got the usual "We need to escalate this ticket to a Crunchyroll specialist".
So I guess I'll have to wait another two months till they can find another issue unrelated to my ticket so they can close it again and pat themselves on the back thinking they have done a good job.

I was wondering if you hadn't of wound up in a situation like the first episode of Highschool DxD.
But such are the times and you do what you gotta do.
It's so cold I've been sleeping an awful lot.
Also caught a cold.
Originally thought it was because while I was in town my cat was going berserk on my bed rolling around shedding his winter coat all over my sheets and pillow so I'd been huffing cat fur for the past 3 days.
But I felt a little better since I lint rolled the place (I'm allergic to animal fur but I still own a cat) but it's been 4 days and I still have a runny nose and a cough.
So I did a covid test earlier and it's negative so that rules that out.
But usually I get over colds in a day or two.

Seitokai Yakuindomo S2 OVA

Also been binge watching Dropkick on my Devil.
Season 1 was fine, save for none of the characters being actually introduced, they were just there, so I was wondering whether or not Crunchyroll pulled a Funimation and goofed up the video order.
Then Season 2 had a brief introduction of how the characters met, which was pointless to have in S2.
And now Season 3 is full of social media and pop culture references.

Also don't know what to do after I finish Sailor Moon R and Promise of the Rose.
Got the two Seitokai Yakuindomo movies to watch.
But I also kinda wanna get started on Lupin the Third.
But I also recently bought Comic Party and Magic Knight Rayearth.
But I also haven't rewatched Kara no Kyoukai (which cost a lot to get).
Also noticed I haven't rewatched Excel Saga, Black Lagoon, Witchblade, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, Cowboy Bebop or RahXephon in a long time.
Although I also have a tonne of shows in my collection I haven't watched yet.

On the topic of Sailor Moon however.
I finally sussed out why watching it wasn't triggering any nostalgia for me.
When it aired in New Zealand it wasn't Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon S, Sailor Moon Super S or Sailor Moon Sailor Stars.
It was just flat out Sailor Moon.
But when I started watching R and Usagi got her power up for the new bad guys I instantly recognized her new outfit.
I also have to say the naming conventions of older anime leave a lot to be desired.
Her new wand has a really silly name but I can't remember it anymore cause she only said it's name once.
But yea, problem solved.
When I was a kid I watched one of the later seasons on TV and not the original first season.
Also the theme song is different because original Japanese version.
But the music is the same.

A long time ago I was bitching about the price of Legend of Dragoon and how people wanted upwards of $300 for the original PAL ps1 game?
It came out on PS4 and PS5 4 months ago.
It was buggy as all hell when it first came out.
But it's supposedly fixed now.
And like the re-released of the older Final Fantasy games, it also has a rewind function now for if you screw up.
And unlike the re-releases of the older Final Fantasy games, Legend of Dragoon is only $15 when it's not on sale.
I only just found out it was released yesterday xD
Cause I gave up checking for it in the hopes it would be added to PSNow.

I also finished Season 2 of Sailor Moon.
But save for the bad guys at the very start of the season the later villains were really halfassed and lackluster.
I'm starting to dread the "Freak of the week" shtick for 3 more seasons.
I also really feel like rewatching Cardcaptor Sakura.

I also got a reply from Crunchyroll about my Tonikawa issue.
And supposedly it's about licensing.
Problem is (which they seem to be unable to understand) that there were no announcements regarding it leaving, Season 2 only just finished airing and that's still not available despite saying it is for New Zealand and that the issue with the series as a whole only affects New Zealand.
So either A) Crunchyroll is having some pretty fucking weird issues with the show that only affects New Zealand.
Or B) Crunchyroll doesn't believe New Zealand exists and any shows available for us are simply because it's a bulk deal that works with licensing for Oceania as a whole.
But at this rate and with the season 2 special episodes coming I'll probably have to resort to fansubbed versions of the show to actually watch it at all.
Which is hilarious considering Crunchyroll helped produce the series.

I won't pretend to understand what you are going through, but I will say that it sucks.
Glad I swore off all notions of romance after my last breakup.

The good part is it not being my fault, it did hurt that it had to end this way, but you mess with my Mom's generosity and you declare yourself my enemy. And that's the worst part of this; all the money spent on this relationship is practically wasted, but jokes on her and her family: We're still in possession on all the presents we paid for minus the stuff she spent on.

So ultimately it was just a somewhat costly date.

Humanity Has Declined

So I have learned something about licensing and distribution companies in regards to anime.
Well,at least as far as subtitling, translator notes and translations go.
Sentai Filmworks is allergic to otaku culture, but not allergic to social media and urban dictionary memes and they are horrible with translation notes.
Funimation/Madman are fully for otaku culture but unfortunately they are addicted to adding references where references aren't needed.
Crunchyroll has usually all round good translations, they insert references when references are called for and they include otaku culture when it's called for, the only downside being that they infrequently have a lot of spelling and grammar issues.
Manga Entertainment/Discotek/Pioneer/Animeigo have great subtitles and don't leave details out, but when you get to some of their really, really, really old licenses sometimes the subtitles are so long and not properly spaced so they sometimes fall off the screen.
Hanabee pretty much uses Sentai Filmworks translations so that's self explanatory.
Siren Visual has somewhat good translations, but as a former bootlegging company their older stuff has a lot of flubs and dvd issues, like going back to the title screen halfway through an episode, episodes not auto playing and I's and L's being swapped around and improper spacing between words.

All in all though, it's either official or fansub.
And with fansubs it's a 50/50 chance of it being watchable.

I can't believe the year is just over halfway done.
The problem with getting older is that your concept of time starts moving faster and faster.
That or my bed is a super powerful time machine.
Or it's because I'm eagerly awaiting for my book and anime releases.

Seitokai Yakuindomo S2 OVA

So yea, Sailor Moon is turning out as I anticipated.
Started Super this morning, and second episode Usagi got another powerup.
And her new attack involves spinning really fast and shooting out a giant love heart.
Just waiting on the other Sailor Guardians getting their powerup.
Should only be a couple more episodes, they already beat the first bad guy of the season.
Oh, and one of the summoned monsters was a racecar, a vacuum cleaner, a motorbike and a rail tram.

On the topic of official translation flubs, this is one of the worst. The entire Ultra fandom was waiting for the International release of Shin Ultraman and this is the result. Too many format errors and typos and missing text because some genius couldn't tell the difference between Closed Captions and Subtitles and created a translation disaster that everyone is cancelling their preorders until Cleopatra Ltd and/or Tsuburaya can fix this issue. What's worse is this is not even the same translation used for the theatrical releases. They did a new CC file for the movie and still blew it up even with the slight delay they made.

-----

Among the new anime, the first episode of The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses was over-animated in a sense that it didn't have to do it but blew their entire budget on it that I'm not expecting to see the same animation quality for the rest of the series.

And then there's the new Work-Com with another tiny girl but it's the opposite of My Senpai is Annoying.

Sometimes you just have to wonder if they even check these things before they release it.
I'm also guessing by the italic BBCode leftovers that it was supposed to be a scene where he deep in thought or talking to himself.
Watching Astra Lost In Space on Crunchyroll was horrifying.
And HiDive flubs all of their home video releases except for Chivalry of a Failed Knight thus far.
Tanaka is Always Listless has gone from one of my anti depression shows to one of my causes of depression shows.
Wish Crunchyroll had kept their license....
No Game, No Life and Akame ga Kill are also train wrecks.
And as much as I enjoyed watching Gugure! Kokkuri-san! the urban dictionary and pop culture references were painful.
And also Shotacon Tengu.

I had my eyes on those two as well, but I have danger flags ready for Tiny Workmate with Huge Oppai.
But honestly there ain't much this season thus far I'm excited for.

Humanity Has Declined

A couple of days ago I found someone selling the full Ranma 1/2 collection.
I was going to buy it because I like watching old shows.
But when I asked him if he still had them he said someone had brought the latter half of the series to complete his collection.
And then it occurred to me.
I should watch the fansub versions of old out of print tv shows so they get Anniversary re-releases.
Cause I've found that as soon as I watch shows through unofficial means or buy them, they get re-releases or someone licenses them.
I spent shitloads on Monster and then Netflix obtained the license.
And I bet as soon as I get around to re-watching Kara no Kyoukai Funimation will send over the license for Crunchyroll making the $150 I spent buying it moot.

And it seems that Crunchyroll is actually attempting to fix the Tonikawa problem.
I got a response back today with links to the season 1 special episodes and season 2 to see if it works now.
But they still don't.

Oh, and season 3 of Sailor Moon is insanely painful to watch.
I'm at the last 6 episodes and it's been horrid the entire way.
In the first half of the series when the Daimon found a host object the tune that played reminded me a lot of Mother Brain's awakening from Metroid so that was pretty cool.
But other than that it was a horrible experience I wish would have ended.
It also makes me think that I'd be completely unable to watch any Super Sentai shows.

EDIT: Tsukihime: Piece of Blue Glass Moon is finally getting an official english translation in 2024, and its sequel -The Other Side of Red Garden- will also be translated into english when it's released in Japan as well for PS4,PS5 and Switch.

Very strange attempted use of italics then.

Didn't like SSS.Gridman and I did watch Power Rangers when I was a kid.
And Sailor Moon is just Super Sentai for girls, and seeing as though I can watch most shoujo and bishoujo shows fine I guess I'm just straight incompatible with Super Sentai.

Seitokai Yakuindomo S2 OVA

And the final update from Crunchyroll regarding Tonikawa is that it's straight up not available for New Zealand and only unavailable for New Zealand~
Fansub it is then.

Ah, boob and ass wrestling the animation.
It is Keijo right?

Seitokai Yakuindomo S2 OVA

After finishing season 3 of Sailor Moon and cleansing the palate with Cardcaptor Sakura I have a newfound affection towards Clamp works and the show as a whole.
Cardcaptor Sakura feels so properly Shoujo.
And I also found out that the version that I watched as a kid was the American rework Cardcaptors and not Cardcaptor Sakura.
The things you find out by being curious about character relationships.
Didn't even know there was much of a difference other than the anti-gay relations between characters.
The other version was super changed.
Kinda like how Sailor Moon was in the beginning.

Some days I stare at my anime collection and sigh at the sheer number of unwatched shows.
These days I just find it more comfortable to rewatch shows I enjoy rather than gamble whether or not my impulse buy will be worth the effort invested.

New anime stuff:

Dark Gathering: Love at first sight and contender for Horror of the season.
The Gene of AI: It's like the world of Ghost in the Shell but from a doctor's POV and doesn't end on a happy note.
The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses: By the 2nd episode I feel like the joke ran out of steam. How many times do you "accidentally" forget your glasses and how do you function without them? If this was a gag anime it'd be more creative with it but it's played as a straight rom com and doesn't give itself the chance to go all out with the jokes.
The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today: What if Kobayashi's Dragon Maid but the Dragon Maid is a giant grumpy cat who won't tolerate his "owner's" bullshit.
My Tiny Senpai: Doesn't have the same punch as My Senpai is Annoying and relies too much on cutesy jokes that I may drop it.
Noble Farmer: The first episode taught me how cow's milk can change depending on the season and type of water they drink.
Reborn as a Vending Machine: As much as I got tired of Isekai bullshit, I give this a watch out of morbid curiosity and I'm actually enjoying how it's set up.

I don't really have my eyes on anything this season.
And I pretty much never watch shows simulcast.
Sure, I'll watch a couple of em at some point.
Probably 2 years from now like the previous seasons.

Seitokai Yakuindomo S2 OVA
I really should finish Umineko at some point.
