It's no secret that I'm a super-fan of KOR, but the light novels is where it gets a little weird for me. (Particularly part III, what even was that?)
Parts I and II were alright, I didn't have too many issues with them. There's a lot of references to real-world stuff I didn't expect. We learn Madoka is a fan of Macintosh computers, Hikaru logs onto a BBS, and famously, the Bosnian War is a plot point. Yup, these are definitely adults living in the 90's - the more innocent days of the 80's TV show are over.

Despite my immense respect for Matsumoto and Terada (Especially Matsumoto, working with his illness and wanting to raise awareness for it) it's re-enforced that my favorite aspects of the series are by Tomomi Mochizuki and Akemi Takada. For me, nothing tops the original series and first movie, especially the latter.
Given how KOR is such a male-focused series, Takada adds a much-needed feminine touch to the designs.
That being said, I also really liked the artwork by (I assume) Takayuki Goto. The more "mature" art style does fit this tone better.

Anyways, I'm gonna scrub Part III from my brain. See ya!
It’s time to ditch the text file.
