Smash has always been a fast paced game where split second decisions allow you to perfectly land a timed blow or sidestep an incoming projectile. With Brawl came the online aspect which introduced latency.

Adam Sessler said, "... it’s so lag-free it's hard to tell you're not playing with people on your couch." during an X-Play review of Brawl.[1] Yet, I've been having problems timing every move despite if I play random matches or against friends.

I experience roughly a 150-200ms delay between when I hit a key and it is represented onscreen. My fiancé doesn't even notice this lag but I was able to demonstrate it to her after comparing online to offline key response time by having her just listen to the controller and watch the screen.

I've tried placing my Wii in a DMZ as recommended by a guide I found online. [2] But that created little to no change.

So I was wondering what other people's experiences were and if I'm pursuing a better experience than is possible?

Note: I’ve played similarly paced games on Xbox Live with no problem so I know my connection is capable.

I've had a few small lag matches, but almost all either had some lag or a lot.

I moved my Wii into my room so it's closer to the router, but I still get some lag, whenever I do a smash it takes like a second to actually do the attack so I guess I have button lag too, very annoying.

I've really had little to no lag at all with Brawl wi-fi. Maybe 2-3 out of the 200 "with friends" matches I have played have had a small amount of lag. Haven't tried "With Anyone" because I hate time matches.

Are your 'with friends' fights with friends locally or from different locations in the US?
