No, you don’t have to watch the original. Brotherhood covers the manga from the beginning to the end, so you won’t miss anything if you don’t watch the original.

The 2003 series follows the the manga (and Brotherhood) for the first 25 episodes.

On the other hand, Brotherhood follows the manga completely.

Basically, you don't have to watch the 2003 series before Brotherhood.

you don't have to watch fma 2003 to watch fmab since fmab is just a more faithful adaptation of the manga, but i do recommend watching fma2003 first (or at least try to watch it).

The original is worth watching, but Brotherhood is decidedly better, I'd just watch it by itself.

Both are separate shows. You can watch either in any order.
I'd recommend to watch the original too sometime later if you feel like it. It's just as good as FMAB.

U can watch Brotherhood directly. But if u want to experience it just like the manga, watch FMA without the fillers then watch FMAB starting from episode 2. U can check out the fillers on Anime Filler List.

They start the same, they end the same, they changed how they get there. This should just be a permanent FAQ on the top of the page because y'all lazy ass people want to watch less anime. They are both good in their own right, watch you want. Stop being a sheep that only wants to watch the one people tell you to do.

They are just different versions of the same thing though the plots heavily diverge later, but apparently Brotherhood skips over some stuff near the beginning.

So you may be missing a bit of context with Brotherhood, but it’s still self contained

While you technically don’t have to watch the 2003 version to watch Brotherhood, I definitely recommend it as it does the start bits much more effectively than Brotherhood and the original plot after it diverges is also quite good.

No, you don’t have to watch the original. Brotherhood is a remake so you won’t miss anything. Plus I think Brotherhood more closely follows the manga.

brotherhood is an exact adaptation of the manga, and it actually plays out the entire story instead of doing an awkward Isekai thing at the end to wrap it up without material. the original was aired before the manga was finished. also, the animation is much cleaner in brotherhood.

both are great, but the first series does not translate at all to brotherhood so you are fine to skip it. If you are a person that can or has the time I say watch both, first the old one then brotherhood, just because brotherhood is better so if you watch it first you will compare the old one to it and think it's worse then it really is, but it is honestly really good as well. But if its to much of a time dedication then just do brotherhood. If you are worried about it repeating stuff to much I wouldn't be to concerned. There are similarities in the early episodes but not for very long and besides that they are very different story wise. But in all honesty I recommend to most people to just watch brotherhood cause it is better, and it's less dedication for most people just starting a show.

The original and Brotherhood aren't connected so you do not have to watch the both. That being said I don't would recommend watching the original first, since in my opinion it's the superior one. The original splits from the manga halfway through, while Brotherhood follows the manga fully (I haven't read the manga but from what I heard most of the comedy in Brotherhood was not in the manga, and the comedy in Brotherhood was unnecessary and tone ruining). Also Brotherhood speedruns and compresses what was 25 episodes in the original to 10. They even cut some stuff out completely. Also Brotherhood felt too shonen-y with the power of friendship thing (I'm not complaining though) and the homuculi were much worse in Brotherhood. There homunculi that were great and some that were just ok in both the original and Brotherhood, but overall I think the original did it better. Also people say Brotherhood is dark, but I would say the original is considerably darker and more mature than the original. And the ending of the original was controversial, but it was a fitting end to the original, anyone who wanted different was obviously not paying attention to the show. That being said, I do love both shows and they are both great, and I would recommend both, just recommend the original first. And norther what anyone says, the original has better openings.

Confusing and slow? Not even Shonen is like Demon Slayer, with a really simple and plot and fast paced with fight scenes every episode with ufotable level animation.

so? Are you implying that I expect every shonen to be like KnY? Cause you couldn't be more wrong. The original FMA is slow and confusing, the manga is better and besides the first 13 episodes, FMAB is better as well

If you’d like to say i’m wrong i will not argue with you, but objectively means fact and subjectively means personal preference so something being both means it is better in terms of both logic and personal perspective.

watch the og one first and if you like it then watch brotherhood

basically, the og fma is better till it's not. to elaborate, when fma was in the making (2003) the manga hadn't been finished so they go off rails somewhere in the middle.
fmab knows this and speeds through the part that had been adapted correctly in the original one.

in any case both are great but i like the 2003 one more :)

I'm not sure where you're coming from with this. FMA 2003 has a completely different ending from FMAB. They have fairly different worldbuilding and plot on a few key points too. I personally prefer Brotherhood, you can prefer 2003, but they are certainly not the same story in any sense. They have similar beginnings, characters, and settings. That's it.

I think it depends on your interests. If you want the full experience watch FMA and then FMAB. Otherwise just watch FMAB it has a way better End.
