What do you think of
. I mean killing everyone in that room. Would you prefer that (according to me I would have preferred it). What are your thoughts on it.

Coming out of that garage after killing everyone and behind his iconic laughter saying to himself "I am the God of the new world". How awesome would it have been.

Nah I'm so glad that he lost he was so annoying, it was satisfying to see his God complex getting crushed

Death note would lose its point if light hadn't died at the end, at least in my opinion.

Honestly I think the manga handled the ending in a more satisfying way. That being said I honestly wanted light to win and I think seeing that would have been awesome

Internet would have broke out if Light would have won, because he is my favourite and I am Yagamist forever, but the fact is that Death Note won't have made any sense more, either the alternate ending could have been like Light winning after losing some baits like Misa Amane's death and later realising his mistakes and making this world more better but this time in a more acceptable way paying for his crimes or death of Light & Near both and some more added complexities, but anyway it's all our imagination

But yeah Light winning and losing something precious and then later realising his mistakes and working in a more peaceful and accurate way paying for his sins could have been more better ending

nah Light must lose. Although an alternative version where he wins would be indeed interesting, the best ending imo is with his total defeat. But I feel like the way he loses in the anime is just dumb.

No, I think it would have been really stupid if Light had won, but the author was better than that thankfully. I loved how intense his death was, easily one of the highlights.

it would not be fitting for his character he was destined to lose but for L to beat him not near.

I would have perferd L to still be alive and have him be the one who won instead of Light or Near.

I wish he carried a gun with him or had ANY SORT OF PLAN B IF SOMETHING WENT WRONG

But I prefer the ending we got. If he got what he wanted and killed every criminal there was, it wouldn’t be as strong of an ending. Him dying to his own greed was interesting to me.

I wouldve preffered it, but only because I hated Near and Mello.

Or if the series ended after episode 26.

Hmmm choose, LIGHT YAGAMI wins in the end

or

this kid, near, wins.

Yeah light reigning supreme would've been way cooler.

Even if I wanted Light to win, I knew that at some point autor must make him pay for what he done you know to showcase that he didn't approve killing criminals, evil is evil and all that kinda staff. But if he wouldn't lose we didn't get his last goated monolog so...not that bad this ending just too expected.

I would have preferred him killing them especially Mel and N cuz I wasn’t a fan of them. But after that or a short time after he 100 percent should die. Maybe something to do with the shinagami realm or something similar to ryuk killing him

Even though I loved light. Him losing completely is better imo. I just didn't like that he lost to Near. I found that guy annoying asf. I would have preferred it wayy more if L was still alive and he was the one who caught Light. That would have been wayy better.

I would have preferred it only because in general i found light/kira to be the "good guy" other then that I don't think it would have worked that well since plot was determined to get kira. Even if he won they'd have new season with alien L who knows everything because reasons and then gets him.

honestly I feel like that would be kind of disappointing cause it would be such a clihcé to a show which absolutely broke the anime scene

I was disappointed to see him lose. I truly wished that he didn’t die and was ashamed of him, with how smart he was, he could’ve won. But from then I think eventually, even if he did end up killing Near and all those other people, as the “God of the new world”, he would have been killed eventually somehow.

The entire message the show is trying to send would fail changing the ending is a bad idea it would be like if macbeth won sure it sounds cool but it would lose its message

i honestly don’t get why people didn’t like the ending and/or would’ve preferred it to end with lights victory in ep 24 or smth. First of all, realistically, a teenager who is the.no.1 in japan still wouldn’t have a chance against a whole ass police force (it doesn’t really matter how much godly power light got stuffed with- if a police force has L- he had no chance). Aside from the unrealistic amount of intellect light had considering he is just a teenager- hypothetically - how boring would the anime be if light just won and the anime/ manga ended after lights victory. L was and is levels cleverer then light even with the death note (imo) so when light won it left me very surprised. Then Near and Mellow enter the picture and takes a whole different spin on the anime. This anime was a masterpiece until L’s death and afterwards it’s still a masterpiece. Near was one of the best characters in death note and after L died i just wanted to know if light would finally die (not only did i hate his god complex but also the fact that he managed to out smart a whole ass international police force). Apart from the fact that i cried my ass off at the ending both times i’ve watched it but honestly the impact it had on me and still has on me is massive. I think i’ve watch around 120 anime’s now ( not including the Ova’s and season 2’s etc) and death note has impacted me as much as any other of my top 10 anime’s- nothing beats scums wish tho xD. anyway, you can have your opinion but what i’ve just typed is what i thought of the ending :).

I was satisfied with the ending, but if light won with the same screwed up mind set he showed at the end it would have a had a completely different impact.

If light did kill everyone in that garage that wouldn’t be the end there would have to be more like what happens to the world after what happens with ryuuk and if he did kill everyone it would’ve been pretty lame they would either have to bring in another antagonist or we would just have to watch light destroy humanity without anyone stopping him

I think Ohba actually wrote the perfect ending for Death Note where Light eventually loses because the self-confidence that made him want to be 'God of the New World' is also the thing that destroys him in the end by not properly making sure he tied up all the loose ends before the final showdown in that room. Sure there could've been a better way of showing how Near exposes Light as Kira but even then the fact that he is finally exposed is what brings Death Note to a great dynamic end.

On another note, the show/manga is so good at surprising you every time so it would've been boring for me if Light won and that was it (I was disappointed at the time but since then I think it was the perfect ending)

That would've been lame in my opinion since the series was planned to end at chapter 108 anyway, so a finale where Light won and nothing stopped him from achieving his dream of becoming a God-like figure would've been kinda anti-climactic. As much as Near annoyed me, him winning was the right solution since it gave the story closure (well, more so in the manga than in the anime).
