my personal list is like this

I think I agree with you except that I feel hunter exam is better than heaven's arena.
Between yorknew and chimera, I think yorknew is consistently good while chimera peaks higher, I think I give the edge to chimera.

Changes quite a bit, but my top three are always the same (besides the first time I watched it) just sometimes Yorknew and Election can switch

i am genuinely curious why election arc is ur no 1? it was more like a post chimera ants arc tbf it had nothing interesting

I loved seeing the politics work, and Killua and Alluka's relationship is one of my favorites in the show. It also just felt more grounded and brought back Hisoka, Illumi and all the characters who had cameos during the election. It was a great "end" of the show for me.
It also just felt very fast paced compared to the rest of the show and I loved both storylines that were happening.
(Also introduced two of my favorite character from the whole show - Parriston and Alluka)

In my opinion about the plot and the whole thing then definitely Chimera Ant arc, but if it's about the enjoyment of watching then definitely Yorknew City arc.

1, 2, and 7 basically never change.
6 is always either at 3 or 6, no in between.

I based it off of which arc, I rewatched the most or crave rewatching the most.

Really not a fan of the chimera ants arc. It was way to long, started with an intresting idea like xenomorphs and turn into cell and his army of furys fighting againat instant puberty Gon.

Eh... I can't say many of the arcs thrilled me. People praise Chimera Ant to high heaven but it dragged like hell. So probably Yorknew.

1. Chimera Ant Arc - 10/10. Thematically powerful, so much good characterization, I can go on and on. Loved the fights and how the arc is almost a deconstruction or perhaps subversion of the classic shounen formula. People say the pacing is slow but I disagree, while time slows down every episode has atleast 3-4 major things happening. If you want slow pacing go watch recent One Piece.

2. Yorknew City - 10/10. Ahead of its time considering this arc was written around 1999. Perfect atmosphere, great characters, awesome fights and a ton of personality. My only complaint is it sets up a lot but doesn’t deliver in the end, so much so that the current manga arc has to pick up the pieces. But that’s fine considering the arc is fantastic anyway.

3. Succession War (manga) - 9/10. Know we’re not doing anime but I’ll just include it. Won’t spoil but so far I love how Togashi is orchestrating such a chaotic scenario with so many characters and decisions. Yorknew on steroids.

4. Greed Island - 8.5/10. Fun little arc, develops Gon and Killua’s friendship well. It’s an isekai done better than most isekais, and a great training arc that expands Nen. Downside is the villain is not that great, and while the dodgeball match and what follows is easily a peak of the arc, the road there is a bit bland at times.

5. DC Expedition (manga) - 8/10. Builds up the Dark Continent very well while having an awesome fight at the end.

6. Heaven’s Arena - 7.5/10. Introduces the staple of HxH, the Nen system. Is short and sweet and has some cool fights. Not a bad arc but not as great as what’s to come.

7. Hunter Exam - 7/10. A nice introduction to the world and characters. However, in 2011 it is innocent and a bit bland at times. It doesn’t have that HxH genius prevalent in arcs like CAA and Yorknew.

8. Zoldyck Family - 6.5/10. I mean, it’s fine. We meet the Zoldycks. That’s about it.

9. Election Arc - 5.5/10. Easily the worst arc. Has a major asspull, and a bunch of convoluted rules to the asspull that end up being bypassed anyway. The manga implies why this is possible, but it doesn’t save the fact that the worst writing of this series is found here. Luckily Togashi immediately improved with the Succession War (so far).

As expected, Chimera and Yorknew are the popular votes. Yorknew was very enjoyable and easy to binge for me. However, the development and themes that are portrayed in Chimera Arc make it superior to Yorknew for me.

Chimera Ant arc is known to be in the top 5 best anime arcs of all time. I definitely agree. In my opinion it might as well be sitting at the top of shounen arcs. At face value, Hunter x Hunter may seem like your typical, light-hearted shounen adventure in a world with crazy powers, crazy villains, and big battles like most shounen should be but, the Chimera Ant Arc proved to be a completely different arc all together. At this point the show took one of the most crazy, insane twists into darkness that I've ever seen in anime, and to add to that with an on edge of you always being on the edge of your seat guessing what’s going to happen next type of horror. What makes this arc so powerful is definitely in the final battles, which completely just blow you away. it also gives us a bunch of memorable villains, which are all very deep and you may even begin to like/love some of them. Togashi definitely poured his heart and soul into HH, but the Chimera Ant took this anime from being amazing to a masterpiece in my honest opinion.

Allright, I loved chimera ant, easy 10, but why is Yorknew so highly regarded. I know a lot of people say "HxH isn't your typical shounen", but common, we didn't really get a serious fight in this arc and ended with some bogus negotiation. Was I the only one who was very unsatisfied with this arc? The set-up was quite good, but it didn't really deliver for me at all. (Uvogin vs Kurapika was pretty cool tho)
