FreeMoneySubs and Sunberries just put out a sub for this. I've never heard of them before this, but I'm going to see what they're about.

The typesetting's not that fancy but I think the translation's pretty accurate.

Subtitles are serious business: FMS&whatever or SFW? I have both downloaded but can't decide which is better translation-wise.

I wouldn't mind waiting for Frostii since they're pretty great, but I just watched the first episode by FMS and I don't think this is a show that I'm going to be able to wait for. FMS did a respectable job and they released first so that's where my votes going.

I ended up watching both and I'm going to go with SFW having better translation -easier to read, though maybe not quite as literal

I watched it a 3rd time with Eclipse, but even when I'm an Eclipse fanboy I have to say I am more happy with the FMS ones. I just have the impression Eclipse's translation style doesn't really fit this show.

Oh well I'm also a fan of Eclipse, doesn't have seen the FMS yet. BTW I take Full Metal Alchemist in Eclipse, they subbed it quite well :P

Yeah, I agree. I think my reasoning for choosing FMS over Eclipse is because "pleasant" to me sounds more accurate than "lively" for Sawako's name meaning. I'm keeping both though, I do like Eclipse's OP and ED karaoke xD

You are right, their translation is too weird. First time I saw, I was happy that Eclipse subbed this anime; but when I watched, I got too disappointed.
For example, in the 2nd minute Sawako opens the toilet door and says something like: "Douzo, wakinashiteyo." Let's see which groups translated how:
FMS: Go ahead, it's open.
Mamiko: Go ahead. It's open now.
SWF: Go ahead, it's vacant.
Eclipse: Feel free to use this stall. It's open now.

I don't like this translation style, so please tell me the truth honestly, which group's translation is the best? I watched four releases and I think SWF>Mamiko=FMS>Eclipse
I thought Eclipse translations would be best. Anyway, let's wait for Frostii.

From the example I take eclipse was translating too literal, as in they didn't use a more casual way of speech. I guess it depends on who their translator is, I loved SS's translator, they borrow him from time to time too. BTW, I've seen Frostii translations before and they can be great or horrible, so really, just choose your favorite subber and go with it. Usually is best to just go with whoever is likely to finish all of it in a timely manner (not a need to be super fast, but no monthly delays).

This is actually the first time for me, too. The above mentioned examples are not the only things I thought to be worse.

BTW, I also compared the Seitokai no Ichizon subs from GG to those from SS-Eclipse and there I also found a few parts where GG did a better job (example from the SS-Eclipse sub: Forest.com instead of obviously Amazon.com is breaking a good joke; one of the other was "the black butler" instead of using the jap. name which is also part of the title the reference was actually hinting to), but there were other parts they did a better job than GG, so in the end it evens out. Considering the fact that GG dropped that one you don't really have a choice, too. But then again I am by no means unhappy with SS-Eclipse.
But for Kimi ni Todoke I will stick with FMS this time.

As Leon-gun said: you should go with the one you trust in. When you pick one and never compare it to another sub you probably will never find out that some parts sound weird.

EDIT: I also watched episode 2 with FMS and again a 2nd time with Eclipse and I have to say Eclipse might break even with this episode. They are not as accurate as FMS in this show and often translate things rather free, but it makes more sense in many cases. Really a hard choice.

Okay, since there is a topic about fansubs, I won't make another one. But I do have a dilemma!

I can't decide if I should archive the version by Eclipse or ANBU-Frostii. Both do a great job on the karaoke I think. I like the karaoke by Frostii slightly better because the fonts are more pleasant. Both groups use mostly the same color scheme. Frostii is at a disadvantage for being somewhat on the slow side though and I don't like the font they use for the dialogue or the way they phrase some things, but I like that they italicize Sawako's thoughts.

Anyone seen both and want to give me an opinion?
