I had this one on my mind for quite some time and just read chapter 1 of the manga, god damn it was amazing but is the anime better?
Sometimes when it's related to emotions anime is much better since it has sounds and animation so I just wondered.

Watch it!

Though I feel like my view is a bit biased because unless i can get into the manga straight away i cant enjoy it, but the anime is really good.

My favorite quotes from animes:

Those who seek miracles will never experience one. The hand of salvation only extends to people
who try to make miracles happen. - Ef a tale of melodies.
I destroy worlds. I create worlds. - Code geass
We are humans. - Shinsekai yori
100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10km run EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! - One punch man

Even if you already read the manga, I'd still recommend watching the anime afterward.

I have not read the manga so I can't really comment on the comparison,
but 5 cm/s is most well known for its beautiful anime and is one of Makoto Shinkai's best works.
