For the way I rate, the way I rate 9 is a little generous. May have to tweak this ("complicated" calculations actually involved).

I think I'm very lenient with my 10s already, but I still only have a small number of series ending up with a 10, 6 anime to be exact. If I were to try to be normal with it, I'd end up with only 2.

Tbh any change would simply change the scores that are on the boundary of 2 scores anyway. What's important for anyone checking my list to laugh at my shit taste is the relativity of the scores of 2 anime. Besides, I take my Top 10 可愛い list way more seriously

Been a long time since I've been here, I'll continue expressing myself freely and believe everyone should too.

Glad to hear everyone's opinions! It seems like everyone has their own way of doing it, which is how it probably should be.

10s and 9s just are the top X% of what I've seen. I prefer making that only a few percent instead of 30% of all shows I ever watched. For me a score hierarchy only makes sense if it gets harder/rarer for a show to get the highest ratings. 7s and 8s are for good and enjoyable shows that I like but don't feel the need to give them that extra bit of credit a 9 or 10 deserves.

If I pretended I loved all of the top 30% of stuff I've seen the same I would by lying to myself. There's always stuff that's more special to me than almost all of the rest. That's what the top scores are for.

Once you accept that the scores 6-8 are all positive scores used for stuff you legitimately liked it's not that hard to save the 9s and 10s for the shows that you really want to emphasize. For me 8/10 is already close to what many users take as a 10/10 because it's a show I adored and am happily fanboying over. But for a 9 or a 10 there needs to be more than that, a kind of personal appeal that is irrelevant when you discuss your score with other people but it represents how I personally feel about a show compared to others I found similarly good. Though for arguments sake I don't make much of a difference between 8s 9s and 10s, from a critical perspective they're fairly similar and the deciding difference is usually something personal.
I probably regret this post by now.

Do you think that the 9/10 or 10/10 are sacred scores that should be spared for true masterpieces like FMA: Brotherhood and Steins;Gate?

Also, what are some anime you feel are true masterpieces, contrary to what their score may allude to?

there's no need to spare it. actually, the true masterpiece never exist

i have many anime with 10 score on my list (yeah, i'm a high rater too). not because it's a masterpiece, but because it was my favourite

For anime to get 9 from me it has earn it. I use scores like described by MAL, so anything above 5 is good, 8+ is great. I don't have low scores because if I don't like a show I drop it and I don't rate what I didn't finish or even don't put on the list. 10 is reserved for best of the best, like top 1-2%.

everything has flaws so it's not a question of it they exist or not the only real question is did it entertain you enough to forgive them. anime is art, not a science. theres no objectively good or bad show. if you think it's a 10 then it's a 10.

People can rate however they want so just screw other people who try to tell you how to score. I think our mod said before we are allowed to choose how we want to score.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

I usually base my ratings on my personal enjoyment of the show. I also tend to give pretty high scores because I just enjoyed watching them. I feel like people tend to take ratings a bit too seriously. Like, I see them as an easy way to get personal opinions across. Idk this probably isn't helpful at all lmao. Its 1am idk what I'm doing.

I think there are many anime that deserve a 10 but people seem to wanna make sure that they give the fewest amount of those as possible, probably to seem more credible. But if you see a lot of amazing anime, then give a lot of high scores. You might think i give a lot of high scores, but i do that because i watch anime that i think i have a high chance of liking. Not counting airing anime, This year has been a very lucky one for me as i have seen so many amazing anime recently such as horizon in the middle of nowhere, valvrave the liberator, k project, and the pet girl of sakurasou. Im probably missing something. So nothing wrong with giving a lot of high scores, unless you are giving everything a super high score and have seen a ton of anime. I do think the amount of anime i give a 10 will slow down soon. Not a lot of anime i plan to watch in the near future that i think will get a 10, mostly between 7-9. Probably re zero when it finishes. There are some other anime airing this season that have that potential though but they have not aired yet such as 91 days and Qualidea code, but you never know.

9/10s are reserved for those shows which I truly enjoyed and had a quality to its aspects(Animation, Plot, Characters etc). Simply put, my personal favourites. There are a few favourites with 8s though.
I tend to give 7s to the shows that either lack originality or could've been better made. Shows that were horrible are always below 5. The rest which weren't any special are 5/6s.

I'm relatively lenient with my scores (like many people I grade on a 5-10 scale for the most part), so I have a good amount of 9s, though almost no 10s. Despite that, though, I usually give 8s to anime that I like a ton, simply because throwing out 9s left and right cheapens the value of those scores. I do think I've gradually become a little harsher with my ratings the more I've watched though.

People can enjoy anime however they want. If that means spamming 10s, I don't really care. Whatever floats your boat

I do think there's value in using the whole scale though. I used to consider 6 a "bad score" when I first started rating things. Now there's plenty of things I've rated a 6 that I still enjoy a fair amount.
