Hunter x Hunter was written first. So most of the credit has to go to Hunter x Hunter.

1.Exam Arc 2. Red-Eyed clan exterminated 3. Netero and hashirama both use a 1000 Buda-fists 4. Very Important father figure and sons with pointy hair 5. THEY ARE
BOTH SHOUNEN.

You can take any shounen and say one copied the other, thats what makes shounen a shounen. Personally though Hunter x Hunter is way better executed. Thats the only reason people compare both. You have an excellent shounen (HxH) with a popular but not as great Shounen (Naruto) simple.

While the Chuunin exams can be compared to the Hunter exams, I doubt that you'll have a hard time finding other exams that are exactly similar in other anime as well. But in terms of Kurapika vs Sasuke, they are hardly that similar when you take out the foundations they were built on. While both of their clans were killed, last time I checked the Uchiha clan was killed by Itachi, his brother, (With help from Tobi) to stop the clan for revolting against the Hidden Leaf, not the Akatsuki which most of you compare to the Phantom Troupe who killed the Kurta clan to get their scarlet eyes to sell for a profit. Sasuke abandoned his village and his friends to hunt down Itachi, while Kurapika is fine with Gon helping out. And the Akatsuki are a group of mercenaries trying to change the Shinobi world, while being secretly controlled by an unknown force, while the Phantom Troupe are a group of thieves who care more about the organization rather than the individual. While both groups have members with different powers, other anime like One Piece Bleach and Fairy Tail (Yes, I will be using some references from these again later) also have the same type of diversity, and diversity doesn't justify being copied. And on the topic of the "red" eyes, I fail to see the reasoning of why people believe that having a character with red eyes was an original idea. Red is an embodiment of power strength and love, which is basically what Kurapika and Sasuke are driven by. If my eyes are bloodshot am I gonna be sued by Togashi? (Sorry about the satire) I'm honestly glad that Kishimoto didn't make Sasuke's eyes Pink, since I doubt that would've gotten the point of his character across. In Tokyo Ghoul the irises in the ghouls eyes were also red, but that doesn't mean they copied Hunter x Hunter. While both are influenced by emotion (both are activated by the emotion of the user), the Scarlet eyes allow them to control different types of aura (Conjurer to Specialist for Kurapika), versus the Sharingan which gives the user increased senses and the powers that the different Mangekyou provides (Amaterasu for example), which I don't think Kurapika's eyes upgrade to anything else. In response to the previous comments attempt to compare the Rasengan to the "Ja"janken, firstly, the main character having a signature move doesn't constitute plagiarism in any form; Secondly the Rasengan is a ball of Chakra while the Jajanken is primarily used to increase the damage of Gon's fist (Rock). Jajanken is able to be formed into a blade (Scissors), and can be "shot" as a projectile (Paper), the Rasengan can be infused with different elements (Lava Release Rasengan), and can be "thrown" like a ball (Rasen-shuriken). Finally, Netero and Hashirama technique, which I don't realize how Sengoku was not brought in on this, Netero's is made out of pure Nen and modeled after a figure of Buddhism, while Hashirama's sage art technique is made out of wood and is modeled after the more widely accepted form of Netero's. The fact that I didn't comment on the father figure discussion is a comment on itself.

While both anime are fairly similar, they both were executed differently. From my persepective the only thing really plainly similar between the two Anime is Hanzo, and that's only because he's an actual Ninja. Kishimoto and Togashi both realize that each anime is different in it's own rights, and I doubt that Togashi would have remained quiet about it otherwise. Each anime is appealing to it's intended audience, and I wouldn't be surprised if people find both very appealing, since in fact they do share a lot in common in a respectable way. Stop trying to ruin an anime by posing it as a form of plagiarism. Like any form of music, given enough time, every song eventually is similar to another song that came before it.

I did try to incorporate as many opinions as I could. And if you find any flaws in my argument feel free to comment and express your differing opinion.

If it wasn't already clear, I have a lot of time on my hands. :)

If you read my whole tirade, thank you for your time, and I hope that you enjoy every anime you watch, no matter how good or bad.

It's obvious that between these two there is particularly a lot of similarities. Nobody talks about other combinations like Reborn-DB, One Piece-YYH, Bleach-JoJo because even if they have similarities, it's not that many...

If you can somehow relate stuffs it does not mean they are copied.
(1) Chunin exam: any contest to determine worthy people this idea is pretty old. Plus chunin exam is far more detail and got more integrity than Hunter exam. It got that intense first stage.
(2) Uchiha and kurta clan massacre: yes both are massacre but the bakground is totally different
(3) Sharingan got a detail story and throughout the series it's many aspects were revealed. Kurta eye is very valuable.
(4) Hisoka and Orohimaru they are totally different
(5) Akatsuki and phantom troupe they are both criminal group. Akatsuki is way too developed than phantom troupe. Akatsuki got a solid story about every aspects of them

I wouldn't say that Naruto copied HxH, but was LARGELY influenced by it.
I recall reading somewhere that Togashi and Kishimoto were pretty good friends and that Togashi helped Kishi with the Chunin exam arc.

(1) a- take object off target
b- keep your own
C- creepy character shows up to gauge strength of the main characters and keeps them alive
D- turns out he's part of an organization which he betrays, wanting to fight another member

No one has done this before HxH, and only Nardo did it after.
End Zionazism
