| if the productio tea and studio see that the first season was very profitable that usually make more episodes for second seasons, but i only see this in manga adaptations- ln adaptations tend tostick to 12 episodes in the second season |

| The second season of Yama no Susume is 8 times longer than the first season (312 minutes compared to 36). There are also some anime that fail at first and later become a long runner. The first season of Doraemon is 26 episodes and the second "season" is 1787 episodes. |

| It's highly unlikely but it is possible. For manga adaptations, if they make 1 season 12 episodes, then it's likely that while beginning production of a show, they don't have a new season in mind and try to work through the source material so that it neatly wraps up at 12 episodes. This means that a season 2 is usually 12 episodes as well because it's the length of season 1 and their might not be enough content for 24 more episodes. If the developers are highly confident in their work, they predict mass sucess and, the original manga can sustain extra episodes, then yes a 12 episode series will switch to a 24 episode one. |
