Why I hate Nagisa, (Haven't watched After Story Yet!!)

*WARNING:* I guess this rant might include some minor spoilers for the whole series, but like they matter because they're so predictable anyway...

So I just finished Clannad, (Along with the bonus episode, I'll get onto that later,) and it's gotta be said - one of the MANY things I found awful about this show was the main heroine Nagisa.
I just despise her as a character. The show spends so much time building up the back-stories of all these amazing, cute and interesting female characters, most of which actually do look like - what? - 17-18 year old girls? Unlike Nagisa, who looks like a f*cking 5 year old, It made me feel damn near uncomfortable watching some of her and Tomoya's 'romance' scenes.
Anyway, all these fantastic and pretty intricate relations are built up with really interesting and kawaii af characters like Tomoyo and Kotomi, and then about half way through, they go and pull a fast one, shoving THE most uninteresting, 1-Dimensional and outright annoying character right in our face and wasting away the rest of the show with the same boring, recycled interactions between her and that masterpiece of a relatable character, Tomoya.
I know how much better this show would have been if they had chosen a different female lead to go on and *KINDA SPOILER INBOUND* Get all romantic with our male lead, as the fantastic OVA that is ep. 24 shows us what it would have been like if the extremely likable Tomoyo was used instead. Here's some review of said episode i wrote just to give you an idea of what I mean:

If you ask me, this was better than the entire series combined... Possibly one of the most emotional things I've ever watched - better than that cutsie-pie, shallow, 1-dimesional bullsh*t that the rest of the series was.
Seriously - this on it's own could be a short film and I would watch it multiple times and get twice as many feels as I did watching the rest of Clannad...
Well... Time to watch After Story - better be on par with this and not the rest of this season...

Anyway, that concludes my rant I guess... Like to see if anyone agrees!!

I like Nagisa. I even made a forum post wondering why so many people hate her. If I hate anyone in Clannad, it's Fuko. Tomoyo is definitely my favourite out of all the girls, second being Kyou, so I'm really glad you think the same.
I have seen comments other people have made, wondering why out of all the girls Tomoya picks Nagisa as they claim she has "zero star qualities" and they say it must be because of her loving parents, who I agree are amazing. If Nagisa had boring parents that couldn't care less then Tomoya wouldn't have been interested in her. That's just what I've seen anyway, but I think she does have her own merits as a character. Others don't see that. I can see why someone would say she's bland compared to the rest of the cast, but hate her? I don't know. She has her crybaby moments and I admit that can get a bit annoying, but she was born with an illness that makes her unable to support herself. All the criticism regarding Nagisa is pretty harsh. At least she's sweet and caring and not aggressive and selfish.

I completely agree. I think she represents everything I hate in this show. Tomoya just has to pick the worst (maybe second worst, Fuko really gets on my nerves) character to romance. Especially when you have Tomoyo to choose who actually doesn't make me want to die when I see her on screen.

At least Tomoyo was lucky and got an OVA. I'll have to check that out once I'm done with this dumpster fire.
