Went out to buy a replacement for my constantly snapping Audio-Technica ATH-A900 and ended up with the ATH-AD900.

Also ordered some replacement parts so I can repair the A900's as they more comfy to wear for long sessions (The drivers on the AD900 touch my ear and start to hurt after an hour or so).

sad, lost my last headphone, and folks bough me a miniphone.

durabrand, but its one of those phones designed only for light uses, like voice chats.

if you use this thing to listen to music or play a game, hah there is no doubt that you will get a headache.

btw the model is something near W3. maybe im mistaking it.

It was my birthday on Monday so I went ahead and bought myself a present~

Happy birthday to me!~

My collection is a lot smaller than before. In fact I shouldn't have bought the MS-2s either, but I was really aching for them. Being a poor college student is a bummer. Woe is me.

My MS-2s, SR80s, Sony I don't really care anymore DJ headphones, Beyer DT770s 80ohm.

I also have a pair of es7s, and portapros that I didn't take a picture of. As for IEMs, the only pair I have are my ATH-CKS70s.

Alessandro Music Series? I've never seen any Grado cans like that? How much did they cost, how do they perform compared to your good old SR80s?

The MS2's is probably the "sweet spot" of the Grado line (alessandro is a subsidary company to Grado from what I understand, but use the same drivers and can be grouped into the Grado line.) They are comparable to the 325i's, but are far less harsh. They are 299 MSRP, but I got em at head-fi for 200.

As for the SR-80s, the MS2's is better in just about every sense, the bass impact is terrific, and the details in the highs and mids are stunning. If I had to make one complaint they are a bit uncomfortable, but that goes for almost all Grado cans.

Mmmmmm. Stax. I hear they have wonderful syngery with Woo Audio amps. Of course I wouldn't know since I don't have 3000+ dollars to shelve out. Stax are on my "dream" team of headphones.

How are your Denon's by the way? I had an opportunity to try the 1001's a few months back and were quite impressed by them. I considered buying them, but gave up on it. Maybe I'll try them out again.

Like the 325i pair? That's fantastic, and at an extremely good price too! And I was thinking of getting a pair of the 325i model, now it sorta just looks gray and boring to me... well, they really are gray, though...

my friend told me that at a head-fi meet, the Stax sounded better than Stax II.
but then he told me it was paired up with blue hawaiis...so...idk.

I haven't delved too much into amps, yet. I will when I finally get a source of income.

the denons...hmm.

the bass is REALLY nice. at first, they were really muddy and slow. but after some burn-in, they became really punchy - which I like.

however, it's sound quality is pretty lacking. my grados sr-60 had better SQ than my denons. but the denons have a full, neutral sound. so if you don't like any particular part of a headphone, then denons are the way to go.

also, they get pretty hot...but I got used to it after a few months. but they are pretty damn comfortable, with little clamp. (unlike sennheisers hd580s...)

I'm thinking of investing in a new pair of grados. maybe the sr-225. I haven't been on head-fi.org in months, so I don't really remember which headphones were a bang-for-a-buck.

Sr-325 and sr-225 are the ones claimed by most users there to be the bang for the buck. You'll just have to see if you can afford the extra expense or not.

Su is right. But careful on the 325s. They tend to be really aggressive, and the highs can be really shrill. The 225s has all the goods grado has to offer for a decent price.

Not being trying to be a self-advertisement whore or anything, but If you want to step up your game and upgrade on the 225s without the super aggressiveness of the 325s, you can check out the Alessandro MS2s, which have the same drivers as the 325s but are far more balanced, than it's 325 counterpart.

Good thing that someone that knows the Grados brand can elaborate.

While we're talking about Grados, are they usually good at movies? Not just action movies full of POW and BANG, but also the quieter ones. I'd guess Sennheiser has the best to offer allround.

For movies Grado is probably not the best choice. I use my Grado's strictly for music purposes, and I use my Beyers for everything else. I think Sennhesier would be a really good choice for movies, but I never liked the neutrality of Sennheiser, although others love them. But for all-rounders, I can hardly think of a brand that can do more than Sennhesier.

Aye, like I thought. Thanks for the confirmation. What you say makes sense. I was personally thinking about getting Beyer DT770 when I first were looking for a pair of decent headphones. Even though they earned much praise, I figured Beyer wasn't my type of brand.

Currently I have 2 Sonys. the one I use on my computer is the MDR-NC6 and I have a pair of earbuds for my ipod for basic travel and going to the gym. I've had the MDR-NC6 for years now and while it still works, it definitely isn't the best that I could have. I think I'm going to upgrade to the Grado SR60 soon.

I've been away from this thread for a while. But I've been going full force into my headphone hobby so no worries. I've just been busy.

Cans
ATH-AD2000: the mid killer, comparable to the RS1 imo.
STAX SRS-2050A: Very detailed, fast, tight, love it. Gives me a craving to upgrade.
Grado RS2: Too poor to afford RS1s
AKG K701: Good ol K701
Sony MDR SA-5000: Very detailed
ATH-M50: my "fun" cans
ATH-ESW9: my "fun" portable cans
Ultrasone HFI-780: I forgot I even had these. I'll be selling these very soon. They just aren't that great. Especially since they are stock cabled.

IEMs:
JVC-Victor HP-FX500: Lots of bass, harsh treble, but they are woody. It's a trade-off
Westone 2: Might as well upgrade to Westone 3
Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10 Pro: My favorite IEM

VERY COMPARABLE. The ad2000s are about the closest dynamic headphone I have heard that matches the sheer speed and detail of electrostatics. They are both very fast, but at the same time, they are both extremely musical. I think the AD2000 midrange is bit more pronounced, while the Stax has a more neutral presentation. But the two have wonderful sounds and compliment each other quite well.

I've been extensively listening to my SR-001 Mk.2 and I'm fairly impressed. They don't blow me away at all and won't be replacing my Tf.10s but they have something about them that makes me want to keep them. Maybe the allure of electrostatics is too great.
