| the characters that come into to my mind are lucy, alucard and yagami light.... if i have to choose it would be yagami light....i mean he manipulates people to his own will and then kills them if they are no longer useful......lucy eventhough twisted and somewhat psychotic she still has emotions like love for kouta and for alucard he just kills his opponent and enjoys it...he is a sadistic bastard, I can compare him to zaraki kenpachi of bleach....so I'll just have to go with yagami light he is twisted, manipulative, egocentric and he has thrown pretty much every emotion he had that made him human..... ...rNr... |

| Relatively "dark" characters: Johan Liebert (Monster), Griffith (Berserk), Ergo Proxy (Ergo Proxy), Poom Poom (Boogiepop Phantom, his dialogue with Phantom just shocked me, thaaat waaas great!). Relatively "light" characters: Joseph Jobson (Blassreiter), Pino (Ergo Proxy, one of the most realistic child characters, IMO), Keigo Oonishi (Texhnolyze), Guts (Berserk), Teresa (Claymore), Heinrich Runge (Monster). |

| For the darkest character in a series it would easily be Oyashiro from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. I'm not done with the series yet but as far as perversion/violence/sadism goes I can tell he's a demon. And so you know I never really felt Light Yagami from Death Note was ever a villain or a really dark character. He was an angsty teen rebelling from society like any other kid. He had no friends, he didn't want any. He was given a power which made him feel special, so he embraced it and played out his emotions. Being the son of a workaholic police officer probably fed into all of this, and light already had a clearly obsessive nature when it came to anything serious like at that moment his school work. |

| Gasai Yuno from "Mirai Nikki". I loved how unpredictable she was - you never knew what she was going to do. One moment she could be adorable and cute, then have a crazy look in her eyes and laugh like a maniac the next, and on other occasion she would turn into a killing machine. But after we find out more about her, we really feel for the girl. |

| Ryuuguu Rena from "when they cry" or "higurashi" would be my choice if i had to choose,in both terms of character development, personality, and actions. Her personality becomes its darkest when it's in contrast to her usual cheerful self. And the way she (spoiler alert) cunningly takes hostage of her fellow classmates plotting in a state of psychosis and paranoia most certainly would make her appear dark to most "sane" folk. Now due to length of this post I'll briefly apologize for its unasked for ramblings of mine. |
