Hi~

I've quite an odd request for a recommendation. I'm involved in a project that mainly uses anime style - so I'd like some recommendations of animes where the characters often 'go out' so that the city/town are often depicted. I will use it as reference when planning the game's cityscape/environment/town, etc.

My list of anime that fits this list so far :

Super Gals (based in Shibuya)
Digimon
Sugar Rune
Card Captor Sakura

I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks!

Hmm, Porfy no Nagai Tabi has some beaitiful city landscapes of Greece, Italy and later France. For a series that's a bit easier to find, Michiko e Hatchin has some great views of brazilian cities, Dennou Coil often features children playing outside, Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto ~Natsu no Sora~ also takes place inside a city, with the characters often going outside and Gad Guard also features lots of city-shots.

Definitely Darker than Black yeah.

Also you might want to check out Code Geass, it's a tad futuristic, but not over the top and they have some quite impressive city structures in there. Serial Experiments Lain also has quite a few good cityscape scenes.

I can't believe no one here has mentioned the Aria series. By far one of my most beautiful cities and backdrops to grace japanese animation (though its not really modern, now that I think about it, haha) Still, I recommend just trying it out.

Try out D.N.Angel (the anime). The city landscape has a Venice, Italy kind of flavor, which is really nice.

Death Note
Paranoia Agent
Akira
Paprika
Gunslinger Girl (that's more of Italy's locations, though)

edit: Totally forgot Appleseed (2004), and GitS: SAC, but those might be too futuristic
