".....I think there is something you would like to see then." He snaps his fingers and a servant appears out of flames. He leans down and whispers something in his ear and then the servant disappears in the manner he came. "When you came to my manor today, I had sensed that there was something wrong with you. I had my servants go out and round up what was left of your pack and bring them to my forest." As he speaks the last word, 4 wolves dart from the trees and run straight for Virane. Philip steps back and watches the reunion with joy in his heart. |

Virane wasn't sure how to react. At first, all she could do was stare in shock. It couldn't be... But it took only a moment for the familiar scents to come rushing to her. What he said was the truth. It really was them. She leapt forward, tears appearing in her eyes. The first wolf, a silvery-grey female, transformed into her human form. She had short black hair, and brown eyes. As soon as she came close enough, she threw her arms around Virane with a glad cry. "I thought they had killed you!" the girl said, squeezing her so tightly that the breath was knocked out of her. "I thought the same about you," Virane replied, her voice soft and filled with emotion. |

He continues to watch the heartfelt reunion fo r a while before speaking. He addresses the rest of the pack. "you may stay in the manor, if you like. There is plenty of food and room sto spare. If you choose to stay in the forest, all I ask is that you do not hunt the endangered or "extinct" animals, as they took several lifetimes to acquire, and I would not like to see that work wasted." He turns to Virane and says, "you may keep your room if you like, but I will understand if you would rather stay here with your pack." |

Virane turned to look at him. "We may be wolves, but we do live in houses, you know," she told him, amusement in her voice. The girl that had first greeted Virane glanced over at him. "We'll be happy enough in the forest, don't worry. And I promise, we'll follow your rules." She gave him and Virane a short bow before disappearing back into the woods. Virane watched her and the others ago before returning to his side. "I cannot tell you how much this means to me." |

"No need, Virane, I can see it in your eyes and feel it in your heart. And like I said earlier, you have free reign of the house and grounds. And fear not, your pack will be safe in these woods" he says in a gentle voice. Virane can tell that he is genuine in his feeling. "come. there is a special place in this forest that I would like you to see." He takes her hand again, this time only holding it, and leads her deeper into the woods. soon, they appear in a large opening. Here, the power feels the strongest, and there is only a large rock formation with a waterfall on it slapshing down into a large lake. "This is by far my most favorite place in the world. Not many places I've found exude power like this. And not to mention the peacefulness and serenity of the place" |

Releasing his hand, she moved closer, holding one hand beneath the water. "I can feel the power of this place. Not just here, but as soon as we entered the forest. What is it? I have never felt anything like it." Of course, there had always been the underlying energy that all living things had, but this was different, and stronger. |

he smiles again. "you're feeling the power of the old gods. the ones mankind has all but forgotten. Ever since they switched to christianity, their power has been dwindling. Sure there are some humans that still believe, but not enough to make a difference. I have given them permission to live in and on the land I own, giving them a refuge in their twilight days. I expect that in a few hundred years they will be completely forgotten by mankind and cease to exist, but until then, we live in peace." |

"This place is full of magic. Even someone with no experience of the supernatural could tell that." Shaking the water from her hand, she straightened, looking back at him. "To be honest with you, I believe that I could come to like it here." This was slightly untrue; she already felt at home here. It was different than the forest she had been born and raised in, but no less welcoming. |

This time, there was no hesitation as she placed her hand in his. She couldn't say that she completely trusted him, but it was definitely a start. He had given her back her freedom, albeit in a manner that she had never expected. Maybe, just maybe, this place really could become her home. |

He walks her back to her room, dropping her off at her door. "If you need anything, you know what room I'm in. If you get hungry, just pull the role next to your bed. A servant will be with you shortly after that, and will be happy to make you whatever you ask. Have a good night. Sweet dreams" As he says the last line, he leans in and kisses her lightly on the cheek, then turns and heads to his room. |

She reached up, lightly touching her cheek where he had kissed her. What had prompted him to do that...? Shaking her head, she moved over to the bed. Unzipping the dress that she wore, she removed it, folding it up and putting it at the foot of the bed. Dressed only in her underclothes, she climbed into bed, curling up beneath the blankets. Soon, she had fallen asleep. |

Several hours later, Virane awoke. Slipping out of the bed, she moved over to the window, opening it. The moonlight was shining through it, casting a pool of silver light on the floor. Opening the window a bit wider, she sat down on the sill, closing her eyes as the light hit her. Because of what she was, the moonlight gave her strength. It had been so long since she'd been able to do this... |

That surprised her. What was he doing outside at this time of night? Standing up, she walked back over to the bed, picking up the dress she had worn before and putting it back on. She glanced over at the door, considering for a moment. No, the window would be faster. Although her room was on the second floor, if she was careful, she could make the jump without injury. Returning to the window, she perched carefully on the sill before slipping out of it. She landed lightly on one knee, then straightened, watching him. In the moonlight, her golden eyes were luminous, and her pale skin seemed to glow. "You seem restless." |

It was interesting, she thought. He wasn't the least bit surprised by her sudden appearance there, or the way the moonlight made her look. "Is there anything I can help you with? You seem a bit troubled. After what you did for me today, I would like to help you if I can. It is a poor repayment, but..." |

She blinked. Really, she hadn't thought that his problems would be about her. What was more, he had actually told her about it. If he had asked the same, she probably would have lied, but that was just her. She didn't like admitting weakness. But then, this wasn't truly weakness. He was simply confused. "I...see." Her head tilted slightly to the side. "I am afraid that I cannot help you with that. Deciding what to do with me...that is entirely up to you. After all, you bought my freedom. Technically, my life belongs to you." Strange, that didn't bother her as much as she thought it would. |

She thought about that, looking towards the forest. Really, she had everything she could ever want here. Woods that she could explore whenever she wanted; fresh meat, if she wanted to hunt, protection from being captured again, and a luxurious home. On top of that, she had a companion that she was beginning to trust. He'd told her that he had been lonely; maybe that was how she could repay him for what he had done for her. Her golden gaze returned to him, and she smiled. "I would." |

She placed her hand in his, moving a bit closer to him. Unlike earlier, there was no tension in her body as she stepped up beside him. If he wanted to harm her, he could have done so by now. He still didn't have her full trust, but for knowing each other only a day, it was impressive that she was allowing this much. |

Stepping forward, she cupped her hands around the blossom, but didn't pick it. Instead, she simply leaned down and inhaled the sweet scent. "I know of a plant that does that. The bloom incubates for weeks, opening only one night, under a full moon, before withering. They call it the Queen of the Night." |

She glanced back at him, a faint blush appearing on her face. Straightening, she turned back to look at him. "I did not know it was possible to actually change the weather like you just did. That was impressive." It was an abrupt topic change, but she didn't know how to respond to what he had just said. She had been called beautiful before, but never by someone like him. Somehow, hearing it from him was different. |

Her eyes narrowed slightly, but there was no other reaction to what he had said. Interesting... He had told her that he was a demon, but not how powerful he was. "Still, I find it impressive." She folded her hands behind her back. This close, he was able to see something unusual; she had fangs. All four canines, both upper and lower, were slender fangs, rather than the slightly pointed teeth of a human. |

She was close behind him, glancing around her every now and then to take in the landscape. There was just one thing that was on her mind... "I do not want to sound ungrateful, especially considering everything that you have done, but may I make one request? The wardrobe in my room is full of dresses, but no pants, shorts, or shirts. May I have some? The dresses are beautiful, but a bit inappropriate for things like exploring mountains or forests. I would hate to do something to ruin them. Pants have a tendency to be more resilient." |

"Not particularly. Although I do favor cool colors over warm. The bright colors just never seem to suit me." She tucked a lock of hair back out of her face. "Since you are taking me into the mountains, can I assume that you can see in the dark?" Her voice held a slight trace of amusement. "It seems to me that this could be dangerous otherwise." Because of the light of the moon, she could see very well, but it was possible that he couldn't. Even if he knew the area well, he could still be hurt. |

"Of course I can, and its sweet of you to worry for me." He leads her to a cave set in the side of the mountain. Inside, she sees a magnificent ruined city. Ancient artifacts line the walls, along with gorgeous works of art. "I stubled across this place one day a few decades ago. Sometimes I like to sit here and listen to the voices of the past. I usually learn something new or something that helps me through my troubles" |

Moving into the cave, she looked around. It was a bit difficult to see in here, since the moonlight couldn't get inside, but the light was enough. "There is something about this place... Here, the forest, everywhere. What is so special about it that draws all of these magical things?" |

"This is a land that has been void of humans for centuries. Until I moved here and started bringing them here. But the magick remains. I'm sure if you know anything about the arts, your magick would be stronger than normal in this land" He wanders down the row of aritfacts and artwork and gently caresses them as he speaks. |

"I am a demon. That in itself is a magical being, but I cannot do magic, exactly. Unless you count my transformation. The fact that I am able to sustain a human form and change at will could be considered magic, I suppose. But I do not feel any different. I can sense the uniqueness of this place, but I do not feel any change within myself. Perhaps it takes a while." |

He walks up to Virane and places a hand over her forehead and one on her chest, just above her breast, being careful not to grope her. He concentrates a moment then says "Place your palm face up in front of you, concentrate on it and visualize a ball of flame appearing within it...Like this." He places his hand out and almost immediately a large ball of flame the size of a watermelon appears. |

She hesitated for a moment, looking at the ball of flames. It was beautiful, but could she really do something like that? Extending one hand, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Visualizing the dancing reds and oranges, she concentrated on that one image, holding it within her mind. |

Her brow furrowed slightly as she felt the strange sensation creeping through her. It wasn't unpleasant, exactly, just odd. Actually, if she really thought about it, it was kind of nice, like slowly being submerged in warm water. The warmth spread up through her, and she couldn't stop the faint smile from coming to her face. "This is white magic," she whispered. "Benign, welcoming." |

Her eyes opened, and she looked up at him with a smile. "I would like that." As she opened her eyes, her appearance shifted slightly. She still retained her human form, with two specific changes. A pair of white wolf ears had appeared on top of her head, along with an identically colored tail swishing elegantly behind her. |

Her ears twitched slightly. "That is another thing I am able to do; I can manifest parts of my transformation at all. Well, usually. If I am afraid, or I feel like my life is in danger, the change will happen whether I will it or not. But the energy of this place seems to bring out the same change. I did not transform on purpose." |

She usually didn't let people touch her ears or tail, but she didn't see the harm in it. "If you wish." She knew that he would be gentle, which was one of the only reasons that she would allow this. Her ears and tail were both very sensitive to touch, and if that touch was too hard, it could easily turn painful. |
