Not that I care too much, but I was searching for the new Thundercats on MAL just to see your opinion on it, and I couldn't find it. Anyone know if the mods decided not to add it for some reason?

Well, maybe that's because Thundercats is a western cartoon...

MAL has a rather sneaky entry for Robotech. If you go to Macross anime profile, there's a link which explains the mystery behind Robotech's disappearance.

Vat iz diz bullshit! Studio 4c are animating the Thundercats reboot, I think it should be allowed on the database. Wiki says:

Country of origin:

United States (production)
Japan (animation)

Yeah, if Studio 4c is involved then the new series should be added. You should bring it though on the anime database modifications sub board.

Transformers were a production of both Japan and USA. Toei Animation was involved in the project. That alone qualifies their entry in MAL.

Actually, even though Thundercats was a western program The original series was animated in Japan.

Ironman the new series is is on the database

http://myanimelist.net/anime/6875/Iron_Man

That is a western show animated by Japan.

Thundercats Reboot is animated by Japan.

The Original series as I said was animated by Japan.

I see no reason why It's not on the DB, but most likely because it wasn't written by japan and doesn't have Japanese voice acting.

It's stupid.

Umm.. no? The original Thundercats had absolutely nothing to do with Japan, as far as I know. That is other than possible inspiration from anime of that era, but that is no criteria for MAL to include an entry of that show on the site.

Thundercats was a purely American cartoon, and only in the 2011 is a Japanese studio involved in the making.

On the other hand, this version of the Iron Man that is included by MAL, and as well others, such as Blade, Wolverine, etc. are in fact, anime versions of their western counterparts, remade by Madhouse.

Then you don't know much about thundercats. It was animated by a Japanese studio.

Well, which one is that? Point me to some official site that claims that. Wikipedia does not mention any Japanese studio involved in the making. Nothing Japanese, save for one guy who was one of the executive producers, but that don't mean a thing.

Alpha-kudasu is right.

Original Thundercats were animated by a collaboration of several Japanese studios under the name of Pacific Animation Corporation.

Hmm.. indeed. It never occured to me that this was a collaboration of Japanese studios. But I see now that ANN has listed them as such. Hmm, in this case, Thundercats should be listed on MAL.

However, is there a way to know which studios have collaborated as the Pacific Animation Corporation? Cause as that corporation, they were involved in the making of nothing but western cartoons (Thundercats, Silverhawks and a couple others), which is not very relevant to the anime business itself...

If we got some studio like Toei Animation for example, that animated Transformers but it is primarily a studio that develops anime and were involved in the making of a lot of popular series, then it could be justified.

The most important criteria for whether or not something is accepted into the database is the target market, not the producers or staff. As far as we know, Thundercats 2011 is being marketed to America and as such, despite having Studio 4C animating it, it will not be accepted into the database.

There are also a few things that should be made clear:
1. Ironman and the rest of the Marvel anime collection were created with the intent to be marketed in Japan. The production was handled by Japanese staff and they were (or in the case of Blade, is currently being) aired in the country on a standard televised release schedule.

2. We are not ANN. We are not AniDB. We are not AnimePlanet. We have our own set of guidelines as to what is accepted on MAL. What other databases list is irrelevant.

3. Unless you're familiar with the Anime Database Guidelines, please don't make assumptions as to what should or shouldn't be in the database. It's misleading and then I have to type up posts like this one to clear things up.

And finally, kodial is right in that this should have been posted under the Anime Support Board. Though actually, if you check the Recent Changes thread we generally provide brief reasons as to why something isn't in the database. If you still aren't sure, then make a thread.

Really, CC is the worst place to get an answer for this kind of stuff. No one except forum mods look here.

That is insane. I know it's set in stone, but have to chime in with my opinion on that.

There is a 1 in 3 chance that any thread you make in MAL will get locked or moved by mods who think we're invading their bedroom as opposed to posting on a public forum, so I figured I'd bypass that hassle and just head straight to CC.

We're just casually chatting about Thundercats after all. I was asking fellow members of the site their opinion, not seriously asking mods to add the show to the database. Like I said, I dont care too much as I'm not a fan of the show, but it struck me as really weird it wasnt on an anime database.

Oh well. I feel bad for Thundercats fans though.

Yup. Robotech should of stayed. But still, now I laugh menacingly as they have to add Thundercats back into the database. Lion-O is my favorite anime character, Muhahahaha!

The new pathero looks a bit strange. In fact the whole show is totally weird. How are they already on third earth? Why are Wiley kit and kat beggars, why doesn't snarf talk? Why is Krune a general? and so on.
