http://www.animenewsnetwork.com has a fairly good encyclopedia of anime/manga series. Good if you're a fan of a certain voice-actor or something equally specific.

If you're looking for recent shows, and have some basic knowledge of IRC, going to the subbing groups channels and using XDCC bots is pretty easy.

You'll get used to the horrible art. It's so worth it to play the VN. If you do eventually play it, you will come back and look at this post full of regret. And really, it's the music that makes it anyway.

It's somewhere on tokyotosho. If you do get it, you just need to grab Episode 4, since it comes with the first four.

Oh yeah, also warning you now that Episode 1 before the first twilight is a lot slower than what you've seen in the anime. You will come to appreciate this part later, though, when you're trying to piece things together.
