While of course not everyone will agree, what are some firsts that are widely considered to be the best of their genre or medium? Stuff such as

Toy Story the first fully CG film is still considered the best by many

Black Sabbath the first metal band still considered the best by many

Those are the first two that always come to mind with this question for me

Probably the first Jurassic Park movie still being not just the best in the series, but also the best dinosaur movie ever. And to me it's neither.

@Little_Sheepling I really can't think of another dinosaur movie that comes even close to the first JP imo. Maybe the second film, but it still isn't even close at all. There was also Planet of Dinosaurs I watched as a kid, but that was pretty bad.

@Toadfan64 I'm a bit of a dinosaur movie enthusiast, I've seen and own dozens of them. Out of pure enjoyment, I prefer some of the older dinosaur movies, but that's probably also some nostalgia kicking in as I saw those before JP.

I think JP is good, but it's one big escape movie...their literally just escaping from one thing to another and it's gets a little repetitive.
I liked seeing the park actually being run as intend in JW, before the Dinosaurs started breaking out.
I've also heard many people online not even considering watching any other Dinosaur movies, as their not JP/JW ones (or don't have their special effects), and I don't think that's very fair.

Oh lol yes, Planet of the Dinosaurs was pretty cheesy, it's much better with the RiffTrax commentary - which is how I watched it first time 😂

A lot of people would also consider Led Zeppelin for the first metal band, especially for their drums. But Sabbath is also incredible.

I think the Lord of the Rings was kind of the foundation of the fantasy genre and also the best. George R.R. Martin's series is good too but alas its incomplete. LotR is a straight up glimpse into another world.

Also they smoke weed in it ;D

The first book of the Dune series by Frank Herbert is a masterpiece that eloquently parodies the Cold War era societies in the West.

Agreed! They've just never been able to recapture that magic. Not that Hollywood really is ever able to most of the time.

@Zarutaku Apollo 15 had the cool Lunar rover though, and Apollo 13 had the most drama. I mean I think it's fair to count 13, even if they didn't end up landing on the moon.
