is this series worth watching, and is s3 better or worse than s1/s2?

imo, s1/ova/s2 are really good and enjoyable. Animation is fine, story is so great, characters are interesting. I loved it so much ! But s3 was kinda disappoiting. Felt like they rushed it and didn't care much about doing something as good as they did.

The 1st Season and the OVAs (linking 1st Season to 2nd) are great. The 2nd Season and the Movie (Prequel) a little bit less, but still good. However, as said by the user above, the 3rd Season was heavily disappointing, be it by its animation, character designs or story adaptation. The quality is just overall way worse, and the user ratings shows it.

The Anime is only adapting the core content absolutely mandatory to understand the story, anyway; they are literally skipping over 50% of the Novel, so i would recommend to read it after/instead of watching the Anime.

That's unfortunate to hear, I come back to this series yearly (because it airs so infrequently) but I always have high hopes after Season 1 and the OVA were so good! The prequel was fine and season 2 felt disjointed but still had the bones of what made the others enjoyable. Reading the reviews and comments it's such a shame to see it in a poor state but hopefully there's another season that shifts back to the action and humour of the first season.

I’d say absolutely yes. I dragged my feet on starting this series because I don’t typically enjoy video game oriented shows AND it’s not dubbed, so I’d have to actually sit still and watch the whole show 😂

So I don’t like watching video game shows, but I do enjoy playing them, so I thought some of the personalities were really good. Steamed Bun for example, and even the cafe manager (who isn’t any good at the game but still loves it).

I also enjoyed the action sequences and battles. Our MC is a great tactician so there are some interesting strategies played out.

I also think they’ve woven a great story into the whole mix.

So despite the quality drop in content during season 3, I still think it’s worth watching. I had fun regardless
