| I hope they do. The scene felt strange and invasive, almost voyeuristic, which left many readers, myself included, baffled. While ultimately a failure, especially when compared to standout portrayals of jealousy and desire—like Humbert Humbert’s unsettling introspection over his obsession with Lolita (in Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita, 1955)—romantic comedies are typically as bland as they come. So, his pitiful and graphic introspection, a strange blend of fantasy, jealousy, and deep insecurity (over you know who), seemingly crafted for shock value, is the only interesting thing I've seen come out of the genre in recent times. |
