Disclaimer: I'm not familiar with all the english baking lingo, so bear with me :)

A little introduction: Back at my parents place, my father used to bake bread all the time - after moving away I realized how useful this skill was (saves money ^^), so I asked for the recipie which he in turn had snatched from a newspaper and modified slightly ;) - without futher useless banter, I present to you my slightly modified version:

A simple bread recipie, for those who like coarse white bread:

What you need:
An oven
4 hour of free time
possibly a baking tin (1½ liter)

Ingredients:

1 Beer (~33 cl) - I prefer using dark, but it's up for discussion what is better - you can also use more if you want and then adding less water.
~1 dl of regular water
~125-175g of wholewheat flour and/or some other coarse flour - I've occationally added a little rye flour aswell **
~½ tablespoon of salt
~½ tablespoon of honey (you can use sugar or similar instead)
~½ dl oil
25g yeast
Optional: Seeds - I use sunflower seeds, around a small handful
~600g wheat flour
some milk.

Now remember that Breadmaths isn't an exact science - more like guidelines really (lol worked hard to add in that pirates reference)
just add extra stuff until the dough 'feels right' (not too sticky not too not-sticky...)

How it is done:
pour water, beer and oil into a large bowl
add salt and honey. Crumble the yeast into the mixture.
Stir a little to disolve and then add the coarse flour (**) (and seeds if you want to) and stir again.
Wait 30 minutes.
Add half of the wheat and stir.
Gradually add the the remaining wheat, while kneading the dough (recommended to do this on a roomy table and NOT in the bowl - trust me it is really unhandy...)
Once satisfied with the dough leave it to rise for 2 hours under a dish cloth.
Move into baking tin and let it rise for another 40 minutes. At some point during this turn on the oven (225 C).
Wet the top of the bread with a little milk (or water) and then bake for 30-35 minutes (225 C - hot-air oven).

enjoy~
