Ok finally got around to the read, sorry it took SSSOOOOOOOO long but seriously if I had to wait that long to read this I would say "well worth it"

You burst out the monster in the girls & reveal the seductive mastermind while still mixing in personal relationships along the way - in which was very moving, I feel deeply sorry for Evelyn & how you explained it all had me dazzled... Ok now go fix it with Evelyn, domt leave her in pain!!

Chapter 20:
Soon most of the dancing had stopped. The music now only served as background for the chatter that was going on. The cold air was welcomed. He felt like he had suffocated during Evelin's confrontation.
"Good job at not hurting her, you idiot..."
Kasumi had warned him. He hadn't expected Evelin to act first, though. No. Even if she had waited a few more days, he still wouldn't have been prepared. Now she knew. The result on the other hand was far from what he wanted. Someone let behind him let out a satisfied sigh. It was Kasumi, who, it seems, finally had decided that she was satiated.
"Enjoying yourself?"
She didn't answer right away, instead let out a long and loud burp.
"Greatly."
"Did you leave something for the other guests?"
Her reaction was snappy, as if her gluttony never existed.
"Of course I did! There were a lot of things that tasted bad. Others though were quite to my liking."
It didn't take much small-talk for her to notice his gloomy mood. And she was smart enough to guess the reason.
"You messed up with pointy ears?", she asked in a calm tone.
"Quite a lot."
A moment of silence passed, until she gave him an "I warned you"-expression.
"Did you tell her, how you feel?"
A slow nod. Kasumi took a deep breath of the fresh air, exhaling it through her nose. Michael fetl a swish of fur, like a pat on his back.
"She fights hard for your attention. Even I can see that. Her reaction was only natural."
Silence again. Evelin already told him that. Now looking back, she really was trying hard to get his attention. Kasumi interrupted his train of thought.
"Are you not going to look at her? When you two were dancing you would look over to me all the time. But now that she is alone and sad you would not even glance at her?"
"You-"
"Of course I did!", she snarled at him.
Exhaling she viewed into the distance again.
"You are not making this much of a competition between her and me. I know I'm stellar. But you shouldn't leave her, when it's her turn with you. Go to her and cheer her up. Otherwise this is a foul from you!"
Speechless he stared at her. It was strange. Shouldn't Kasumi be happy that she lost her competition? Maybe this was her way of caring for her, although she never seemed to care about anything. But she was right. Like this, Evelin would probably never talk to him again. He had to apologize for hurting her feelings. But there was also something else. Michael was about to go inside again, when he called out to her.
"What if I developed feelings for you instead?"
He was nervous. Never did he think he would ask Kasumi something like that. She turned half around, a smirk on her face.
"That would make me happy. And very sad."
Before he could ask her, what she meant, she quickly vanished past him inside.

At the same time inside
It was a strange feeling in her chest. A mixture of hurt, relieve and anger. And that anger would always flare up, when she saw him with her. Although the fox put him through so much trouble he still prefered Kasumi over her. If she had just found him faster, maybe he wouldn't have ever met her. The look of jealousy must have been clear on her face. If it wasn't for the promise she made with Michael, she would have challenged Kasumi to a fight already. But deep inside she knew, that conquering Michael by force is something that wouldn't work. There had to be a way.
"Love problems?"
Sitting down next to her was the vampire girl, who held the speech at the beginning of the ball. Evelin didn't answer. The girl looked towards Michael and Kasumi standing outside. Evelin knew how vampires could be. And she perfectly knew those hungry eyes, with which the girl looked at Michael.
"Don't they look gross together? That could be you standing there."
"Why do you care?", Evelin responded, slightly annoyed.
She didn't know the girl and Evelin was sure that she didn't look so much in need of love advices.
"I just want to help out a fellow sister in pain. Don't worry I won't do anything to him. We are not allowed to kill humans. Especially males."
The girl grabbed a glass and poured blood from a jug inside it.
"I'm Camilla. Sylvia's assistant. Care for a drink?"
Politely she declined.
"Evelin. I substitute Seria at this ball."
Camilla took a sip from her glass. A drop of blood ran down from the corner of her mouth. With her thumb she collected it, licking it up.
"You three belong together? The human, the fox and you?"
After the recent events, Evelin felt more like an outsider.
"Those two belong together. I'm just... there."
"That's suprising. Kitsune are famous for being seductive. But vampires – If we set our eyes on a male, he won't escape. No matter what. We can enslave them. Why don't you use your powers? Vampire's have the tools for the job, while she has just her looks and her magic. We have the power of blood. Bind him to you!"
The thought alone sent shivers down her spine. Sure Kasumi would be powerless if she did that. But she couldn't imagine Michael's reaction, seeing her about to bury her fangs in his neck, not to mention Kasumi's retaliation if she did that.
"Never. He's rightfully hers. I promised him not to fight her. And he already made his choice."
The blond vampire brought her head near to Evelin's ears.
"Just convince him to rethink his choice. I'm not talking about fighting. I see you are a little bit shy. But you are good looking and he seems to harbor some feelings for you, too. Otherwise he wouldn't have made that silly promise with you. You still have a chance! Let me help you out. I will show you the ropes and then take care that you two are alone. Let's see how quickly he will change his mind.", she whispered, grinning deviously.
And she hit the nerve. The faint hope that flickered inside Evelin again made her think. Was there really still a chance? Should she use it? Could she trust Camilla? Her methods seemed far more aggressive, but a more confident approach worked for Kasumi, too. Seeing Michael's face before her eyes made her forget her doubts. She wanted to be together with him. Evelin nodded.
"Perfect. But this place is to crowded. Let's give you some more privacy. Follow me."
The vampire girl got up and walked towards a door just beneath the stairs, opening it''s look and waving Evelin to follow.

The hall wasn't really big. Still he couldn't find a trace of Evelin. He strolled through the guests, ignoring their hungry look. He was sure that at least Kasumi had an eye on him.
"Maybe she already left..."
The longer the search took, the more depressed he got. Had he hurt her that much? Michael tried to think of what to say to her, should he find Evelin. Damage was already done. Now he had to try his best to repair at least part of it. Or was it already too late? Did she abandon him? He suddendly bumped into a guest standing infront of him. Stumbling a few steps backwords he quickly apologized.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to..."
Two red eyes pierced him. Another Vampire, grinning sadistically at him. Michael realised what was going on. He turned around, trying to call out to Kasumi – but he was to slow. Her hand silenced his mouth and two fangs pierced his neck. His conciousness was fading quickly. He saw two more figures rushing to his side, covering his captor, before his vision became black.

Something was wrong. She clearly felt Michael among the guests. Then suddendly, a drop. Something has happened to him. His light was nearly indistinguishable from the others. She opened her eyes again, sipping from her drink. Three figures hastily went through a door near the steps. The same door Evelin followed the other vampire girl through. The door was guarded. It wouldn't be easy to get through there, unless...
She made her way through the crowd, her tails brushing a few guests. She was near the door when a fight broke out behind her. Some of the guests lost control and started attacking each other. The guards rushed to stop them, leaving the door long enough unattended for six curious tails to slip past...

Chapter 21:
The stairway led down to complex under the mansion. Arriving at a hall with a water spring in the center, severel corridors led further inside.
"Hm... quite cozy here. Now, if I was a vampire, where would I store my food?"
She couldn't sense Michael nearby and there were to many other sounds that made detecting anything difficult. But there was something else. An air current.
"Fresh air would surely help keeping that blood tasty."
Kasumi followed her senses, strolling throught the barely lit corridors. It was almost like a house under the house with decorations hanging on walls and an all in all comfortable interior.
"Must be their daytime lounge."
Nearing the source of the air current, Kasumi picked up the presence of guards.
"*sigh* This is going to be a hassle..."

His vision was blurry. Infront of him was sitting a vampire, probably one of those, who dragged him down here. As he slowly recovered, his eyes met the ones of an elf girl, who looked at him with teary eyes, as the vampire fed on her. Her brown hair and clothes showed stains of blood.
He felt a sharp pain in his neck. Michael remembered them biting him. After that he woke up here, with the small vampire ordering the others to "extract" blood from him. Most likely he lost consciousness after that again. The vampire seemed to have finished feeding on the elf, who was now unconscious. Michael hastily closed his eyes. He didn't want her to notice he was awake. But the vampire had other plans. Footsteps came closer to him.
"Hm... I think I could use some more of your blood. The bite was tasty already, but I didn't get to drink any."
A cold breath brushed his neck. He prepared for a sharp pain, but suddendly the door was burst out of it's angles, crashing against the opposing wall. Blue flames lingered for a while before disappearing, when Kasumi stepped inside the room. She immediately brightened up, when she spotted Michael, ignoring the vampire next to him, who rushed to attack her. But her expression went dark, as she realised in which condition Michael was. Lightly brushing her enemy, the vampire instantly became a victim of her illusions.
"Sit."
Following Kasumi's order she fell on her knees, looking to the ceiling with empty eyes. Michael was hanging off the wall, chained. He was weakened but still concious.
"Ka..su..."
"Don't speak. Let me unchain you first."
Using her spirit fire, she was able to melt the chains bit by bit, while supporting Michael.
"Evelin... where-"
"I said don't speak!", she snarled at him and promptly stuffed his mouth with one of her tails. She didn't know herself, what was on Evelin's mind and why she followed that vampire, who would harm Michael like that. His weakened restrains snapped in half and he completely fell into Kasumi's arms. His breath was slow and heavy, since he was still recovering from the paralytic effects of the vampire bite. Now all there was to do, was finding Evelin and escaping as quickly as possible. They didn't have the time to wait for Sylvia. Maybe it even was her who was behind this trap. Getting Michael out alive was the priority now.
"Can you stand? We need to find pointy-ears."
With Kasumi's support Michael slowly got on his feet again.
"I think. Where is Evelin?"
With a shrug she replied, while pointing at the vampire she tamed before.
"I don't know. But she may."
"Maybe. But will she tell us?
Kasumi walked up to the vampire, who was still in a daze. With her back towards Michael she explained.
"I have my ways. But promise me that you won't refrain from talking to me for days again."
He had a rough guess of what she was referring to. He nodded and silently left the room to wait outside, still in reach of Kasumi. Then the cries started.

Somewhere else underground Evelin sat in a well decorated room, enlightened only by the flickering fire of a chimney. Several paintings on the wall visualised moments of old tales and legends, others were probably related to Sylvia's linage. Camilla was strolling through the room, fetching two glasses from a cupboard, before sitting beside Evelin.
"So you have made your move on him but he chose the fox. The way I see it you weren't nearly convincing enough. You should have used your magic."
Evelin vehemently shook her head.
"I don't want to manipulate him. If I can't win him over normally I..."
"Gah! There you go again! If he has made his choice already you either are so seductive that he can't help but change his mind, which, given your personality, you aren't, or you use your natural abilities."
Camilla's hand caressed Evelin's long black hair, while she continued in a calmer tone.
"You don't have that many options left, if you want to win him over. But if you don't want to manipulate him, I may have another way."
With a wave of her hand, a servant stepped inside the room, holding a carafe which contained a red liquid. She filled the glasses, which Evelin had placed on a table before and stepped outside again.
"You just need a little push. Maybe this will help you. Drink up!"
"I- I can't."
"You really aren't making this easy for yourself. Wait... you have never drunk blood?"
Evelin shook her head once more. Since the day, when she murdered her parents, she had never drunk blood and lived on a suppressant and replacements.
"Oh dear..."
"Maybe this isn't a good idea after all. I may take my leave now. Thank you for trying though."
Just when she attempted to walk towards the door, an invisible force pushed Evelin back into the seat.
"I take everything back. This might be easier after all. The fact that you have never tasted blood means that you are pretty weak against magical influence. This also means that your first taste will be really special."
Truly she couldn't move her body anymore. Camilla grabbed the glas and moved closer to Evelin, who tried to fight Camilla's power.
"Let me go! I don't want this."
Laughter echoed through the room.
"Oh you just don't know yet, how much you really want this."
Camilla pulled down Evelin's veil with the suppressant. The scent of the blood instantly flooded her nose. Not only that, she remembered the scent.
"Michael! What have you done to him!"
"Let's say, I wanted to deepen the connection between you two.If you drink this, you won't be able to hold back your desires. You will chase after this scent, until you find it's source. What happens then is up to your self-control. But I doubt you have much of that. Now my dear, drink!"
Camilla brought the glass to her mouth. Every drop that ran down her throat, clouded her mind more until there was only a burning thirst for more of this taste...

At the same time somewhere else
"Careful Roy!"
The Vampire materialised behind him, slashing after the human. The dagger with which he tried to parry flew out of his hand, piercing a wooden pillar. He jumped next to the mantis girl, assuming his stance with the single dagger he had left.
"Quite an annoying lady."
"Here she comes again!"
Crates flew towards the two. While Roy slid underneath them, Clair cleanly sliced them to pieces before launching another attack. A shockwave from Sylvia though forced both to fall back again.
"As expected from a noble. Didn't you have a better plan for this?!"
"Hey! The order was to lure her out and there she is! I haven't thought about the "beating the crap out of her part" yet."
A tail swipe wrecked the stoneblock, infront which Sylvia stood, followed by a stream of fire across the room. Alice's figure stepped through the smoke.
"Good one. Nearly had her."
"Can't we just let Alice torch this place? Maybe that will get her."
"Yeah... because she managed to hit her yet..."
An angry stomp from the dragon was the answer.
"Wasn't meant that way, you are doing great!"
She hated quick enemies. Against them her only chance was to burn everything around her. Her build was to massive and clunky to keep up with them, even in this form. On the other hand she didn't need to worry about damage that much either since she was well armored. Sylvia hurled icy spears towards Roy and Clair. Quickly she shielded the human with her wing, while Clair evaded with a few quick jumps.
"You maggots are beneath me!"
"Maggots?!"
"Oh oh..."
Her expression was now furious.
"Roy, Clair, take the wyvern and get out of here. NOW!"
Both followed her order immediately. A good part of the warehouse was already on fire.
"You are quite heavy miss. Although still a lot lighter than Alice"
"Don't let Alice hear that. She's conscious about her weight."
Both of them ran straight ahead into the field outside the warehouse. A flash and shortly after a gigantic dragon tore appart the burning warehouse. Sylvia's figure was less than a dwarf compared to the massive beast infront of her. A deep guttural voice echoed through the field.
"I believe most of you have forgotten, how much terror a dragon can spread. I shall remind you of that now!"
After shortly inhaling, a stream of fire incinerated not only Sylvia but a big area behind her, leaving nothing but burned ground and ashes behind. Exhaling smoke through her nostrils, Alice transformed back into her "human" form, as soon as she had confirmed Sylvia's death.
"I'm so buying her a roasted pig when this is over."
Roy noticed a movement on his shoulder.
"You have a dangerous girlfriend."
"Don't get me started... but your partner is surely missing you already. Next stop: Abbey! Alice, if we ride on your back-"
"Forget it!"
"Aw come on! It would be much quicker that way."
"It would be much quicker till we get shot out of the sky! Black scaled dragons aren't really welcomed around here!"
"....point taken."
Alice took the wyvern off Roy's shoulders and continued to carry her, as the three of them headed for the mountains again.

"I fricking love walking!"
"Shut it!"
"Shut it!"

well thats an interesting chapter, i forgot about roy and his companions, kinda lost on that group right now but sneaky business going on with cam and sylvia... kind thought evelin would be in on that

I'm interested that you went with a blood starved vampire, specifically that you didn't follow the trope about vampires being stronger the longer they don't drink, like in skyrim and hellsing, speaking of that doesnt exaclty make sense... not what you wrot just that starved stronger buizness

i look forward to your next chapter, im still feeling for ev's but katsumi's looking cooler

I also think it doesn't make sense. I wouldn't get stronger if i stopped eating.
I have not many good things to say about Vampire Knight, but I liked their depiction of Vampires slowly decaying, if they don't drink blood

Well the part with Roy wasn't really planned. More like a teaser for whats to come.

i think it has something to do with becoming "more" undead, like your risking your mind to hunger and becoming full undead instead of partially living by those you feed off of... its a bit of back and forth with their lore to me and since twilight it's just a pain for vampires... i'll be brutally honest and say there's only 3 vampiers i really approve of, alucard, the big-titty police girl & serena from skyrim

Chapter 22
"Are you sure this is the right way?"
Michael was running after Kasumi, who was leading the way ahead of him, occasionally taking turns either right or left. The underground complex was big. If he lost Kasumi here, he would not be able to find back.
"That's what I got out of the vampire. If it is wrong, I can always go back and punch her in the face."
After a while she stopped, blocking his way with her tail.
"One more thing. I saw something else. If we find Evelin, stay back. Don't approach her carelessly."
"Why? Tell me what you saw! What did they do to her?"
Kasumi waved him off and walked further.
"I'm not so sure myself. But keep your distance."
Michael was more than unsatisfied with that answer. Now he was even more worried about Evelin. Kasumi was heading for a red door at the end of the corridor. Splitting her tail and emitting a blue aura she seemed to be prepared for the worst. Michael drew his knife, too, which he had hidden in his boots
"That's it."
With a movement of her hands, an invisible force ripped the door from its angles. Further behind it was Evelin, sitting on bench with Camilla. Disregarding Kasumis warning he ran towards Evelin.
"Stay back, you idiot!"
Faster than Michael could react, he was thrown onto the ground, with Evelin holding his arms. Her eyes had something feral to them, gazing right through him.
"E-Evelin?"
A chill went down his spine, when she brought her face close to his, sniffing his scent, making a sound of suprise, as if she had found something she was looking for.
"Evelin! Stop! Don't you remember me?!"
"Oh, she clearly remembers you! Or at least your taste. Look at how much she is showering you with affection!", Camilla remarked from the back.
Evelins tounge was sliding over his throat, leaving a trail of saliva. From the corner of his eye he could briefly see her fangs, glistening in the dim light. He prepared for a sharp pain, but all he felt was a gust of wind. The force that pushed him to the ground was gone and Evelin crashed into the rooms furniture.
"You had your chance to convince her. Now let me punch some sense back into her!"
She pulled Michael up on his feet, who grabbed her arm tightly.
"You promised me not to fight her!"
"I promised you not to fight Evelin. That thing is not Evelin anymore."
He didn't let her go.
"That can't be. There must be a way to bring her back to her senses!"
"Punching her unconscious und chaining her up is the best bet we have. A rampaging vampire is hard to calm down otherwise."
Angrily he pulled Kasumi back a few steps.
"You can't be serious!"
Now it was her turn to get angry.
"Listen! I would let her bite you, just to show you how stupid your 'no fighting' rule is! But at the moment she is trying to hurt you and I'm not planning to let her succeed, even if I have to use force."
Grabbing the hand that was holding her back, she added:
"I'm disliking this as much as you do, but your safety is more important to me than hers."
Kasumi pushed him out of the way of the attacking Evelin. Completely ignoring the fox girl, who was clearly more dangerous to her, she went straight for Michael again.
"Not so fast!"
Exploiting her distraction, Kasumi grabbed the back of her head, casting an illusion on her eyes to hide Michael. It seemed to work. Evelin stopped moving. Michael circled her to get to Kasumi again, when she raised her head and inhaled deeply through her nose. Now her eyes were piercing Michael again. Fooling her eyes wasn't enough. Kasumi was too slow. Evelin had pushed Michael to the ground again, but this time, he had her by her shoulders. But given the insane amount of strength he struggled to keep her away from his neck. Kasumi rushed to his help, but Michael told her to stay put.
"You can't fight her off. She is too strong for you!"
"I'm not planning to fight her off. We can either beat her up or let her chase me around for forever. Both not the best options. But if she's like this because of my blood, maybe the same thing will bring her back."
She looked at him in disbelief.
"She can't control herself! It's too risky! She won't know when to stop!"
"I know. But somehow I feel responsible for this. Please bear with it."
Before Kasumi could act he let Evelin go and in an instant, she sunk her fangs into his neck.

Her vision was clouded. Al she could follow was a scent that lured her somewhere, but she couldnt grasp what it was or where it came from. Following it she came across Michael. He smiled at her and finally finding something familiar in this emptiness, she rushed into his arms. It was like a fire inside her was extinguished and a feeling of reliieve rushed through her. Thoughts crossed her mind. They were here for something. The stone. Kasumi and Michael were so close to each other. But now he was here with her, bringing his face close to hers. Her heart was racing, but this was what she wanted. She closed her eyes and shared a deep kiss with him.
"I don't feel the same way for you as for Kasumi."
Her eyes were suddendly wide open, the taste of blood in her mouth. She was still embracing Michael, who lay lifelessly beneath her.
"No...no..."
Evelin shook Michaels body but he didn't wake up. The picture of her parents flashed before her eyes. It was the same as back then.
"Well. Guess you really didn't have that much self-control. But if you transform him now you might be able to save- ARGH!"
Kasumi shot a flame towards Camilla.
"Shut up, you little brat! You have caused enough damage!"
Then she turned her attention towards Evelin, who was still trying to wake Michael up. The angry fox grabbed her and threw her against the wall.
"And you! If you so much as think about accepting her crazy proposal, I won't let you have another happy day in you life! The only reason, it is Michael instead of you lying on the ground is that I trusted him and didn't want to hurt you either."
She trapped Evelin inside a wall of flames and went over to Michael. Putting her ears on his chest, she listened for a heartbeat. And luckily she found it, although faint. Evelin was cowering on the ground, shaking from the repeated trauma. And though Kasumi knew the main fault was with Camilla, she knew that Evelin wasn't guiltless. Her rage was overflowing. She didn't remember ever feeling like this.
"I can't let this go unpunished. Not only did you try, taking him by force. You hurt him nearly to fatal extend."
Prepared to attack Evelin, she engulved her hands in flames, but was stopped at the last second, when a rapier blocked her way.
"I think the girl has been through enough for today.", a stern but soft male voice said to her.
It was the vampire that was with Sylvia, before she disappeared. Oswald was his name? The short white hair barely covered a scar over his left eye, which was fixed on Kasumi. Her flames vanished, and the man walked over to Camilla, his weapon still drawn.
"Dangit Oswald! It was just about to get good! Why are you even here!"
"I remember Lady Sylvia entrusted our guests as much to me as to you. So i wondered when you all suddendly were gone. So I began to search for them. It seems though, I take my duties a bit more seriously, as I don't tend to toy with our guests."
"It was just a bit of fun! I didn't intend to kill them!"
Now he was standing infront of her. He was tall and towered two heads over the small vampire girl.
"I had another order from Sylvia", he said while polishing the blade of his rapier with his fingers, before stabbing it through Camilla's chest.
"Eliminate all sources of harm for our guests. And it seems I have found myself one right in our own ranks."
He didn't have to pull the rapier out. Camilla disintegrated with a bone chilling scream, leaving behind only a pile of ashes.
"How is the human?", he asked, sheathing his weapon.
Kasumi was tending to his wound.
"He lost a lot of blood. But he will make it. He just needs rest."
Acknowledging her with a nod he walked towards Evelin, who was still under shock.
"How are you feeling?"
"I... I didn't want this. I didn't want to kill him...."
Oswald tried to calm her down, stroking her head.
"Your friend isn't going to die. You don't need to worry about him. But how are you feeling? Not every vampire takes a blood rush easily. Most are exhausted or aggressive afterwards. Will you be fine? Was this your first time drinking blood?"
"Yes and no... It... was the first time since my transformation. I never drank blood afterwards. But shortly after my transformation... it was a nightmare. I lost my brother to vampires, too. And now... I nearly... I nearly..."
At this point she was only stuttering. Did he charm her? She didn't understand why she told him all that. Maybe because she thought, he's suffered a similar fate.
"Shh... Calm yourself. Transformed vampires mostly share dark pasts. I was still a child, when I was taken. But Sylvia raised me. It wasn't a bad life. You just have to make the best out of it. Maybe your brother was transformed, too. Then you might find him one day."
"W-what do you mean?"
Before he could answer another vampire girl appeared in the room, apparantly out of breath.
"Oswald! We are under attack!"
He quietly stood up. It was Kasumi who asked the next question. Now it was her who was panicking
"Who?! Who is it?!"
The vampire was slightly suprised but he still answered.
"The fox tribes."
Kasumi paled at the answer. Oswald didn't show signs of hostility, but he still had his hand on his rapier again.
"By chance, you dont' have anything to do with this or know anything about it?"
The fox clenched her teeth. She was visibly nervous.
"I'm not involved in this attack. I wanted to avoid this all along. They are after him."
She looked at Michael, who was still unconscious.
"What are we going to do? Lady Sylvia still hasn't returned from the warehouse."
He seemed deep in thought, stroking his chin.
"I see... we will of course do our duty. I will join the forces above. We will repel them."
He turned towards the three of them.
"If you follow the path through this door, it will lead you to the back of this estate. Use it to escape."
Kasumi and Evelin nodded. Since Evelin was physically stronger she agreed to carry Michael, although Kasumi warned her from harming him any further. They ran through the door and followed a long hallway, until they reached stairs, which led them up and outside the building.

"So it really was her."
The vampire knight held onto his necklace, inside a picture of four elves, two adults and two children, one of them looking a lot like Evelin.
"Oswald? Whats wrong?"
They made their way up to the main hall.
"Nothing. I just decided that I'm not going to die tonight."
The main hall was already infiltrated by them. They used their spirit fire to fight the vampire guards. As soon as the vampires spotted Oswald, they regrouped around him. Their morale was up again. Meanwhile the enemy spotted the only male fighter, too.
"Look, they have a male fighting for them! Maybe we should capture that one!"
They giggled to her proposal.
Oswald calmly drew his weapon.
"I promise you: You couldn't handle me.

Chapter 23
The fighting sounds were hearable even from the back of the building. The mansion was located near a river, but not far from a forest. There they could lose their pursuers. Kasumi quickly analyzed the situation. Michael was still unconscious. Evelin was still weakened and had to carry Michael. She was the only one in fighting condition. But against fellow magic users it would be hard to repel multiple of them. Even more if she decided to appear. And she would definitely appear eventhough Kasumi hoped not. She'd fooled her for too long. Now they had catched up. They passed the first tree line. A movement to the right. She could sense several enemies following them. Kasumi quickly turned to Evelin and touched Michael.
"What are you doing?! Keep running!"
"They will catch up at this rate. I will see if I can distract them for a bit."
Using her magic she copied Michaels appereance and aura, hoping to trick some of their followers into chasing her instead of Evelin and Michael.
"Run as far as you can! I will find you somehow but we must get rid of them for now!"
The fox split from the group and ran into a different direction deeper into the forest. It worked. They were following her. But a few were still chasing after Evelin. Hopefully she had recovered enough to deal with them. Suddendly though, her pursuers stopped.
"Damnit, was it too obvious?"
She ran further and failed to notice the presence infront of her. A powerful blast hit her and destroyed her illusion. Her vision was still blurry, but she recognized the mature voice that spoke to her now even without seeing the face. It was voice that radiated malice with every word spoken. A voice that sent shivers down her spine. It belonged to someone she feared more than anything else.
"Playing hide & seek, little sister?"
Kasumi tried to get up and run, but the dark furred fox grabbed her tail and violently yanked Kasumi towards her. The pain caused her to scream.
"I've waited so long for your return. I almost started to worry about you."
Still holding her by her tail, she stroked her head with her other hand, only to pull her head back by her ears, causing Kasumi to scream even more.
"The task I've given you wasn't that hard, wasn't it? Find the human and bring him to me. And I mean that human and not any. Maybe it was a little too much for you?"
"I'm sorry!"
She released Kasumi from her grip, leaving her stumbling forward a few steps before falling on her knees.
"No, you are not."
Firing an orb at Kasumi, the impact threw her agains a tree, knocking her out.
"Don't worry. Your.. friends... will join us soon."

The cold air woke him up. Slowly he opened his eyes, but it took a few moments before he could see clearly. What happened? The last thing he remembers, was him trying to stop Evelin.
"Evelin!"
His eyes had adapted to dark. He was in a cell. Stone walls surrounding him with iron bars seperating the cells. Evelin was in the cell next to him, lying motionless in the corner. She was still unconscious and it looked like she sustained heavy injuries. Burns marked her face and she had several slashed across her torso.
"Evelin! Can you hear me?"
He didnt really expected an answer, given her condition but a pained groan coming from her calmed his worries a bit. Kasumi on the other hand was nowhere to be seen and until Evelin recovered, he wouldn't find out what had happened. One thing was sure though: Given the situation they were in now, it couldn't be good. Through the small window he could see that it was daytime again, though that didn't answer the question where they were and how much time had passed. Evelin opened her eyes and immediatly made a pained face, now feeling the full impact of her injuries.
"Evelin! Are you okay?"
As soon as she saw him, her eyes widened. But it wasn't happiness. It was fear.
"Stay away!"
Though her back was already against the wall, she tried to get more distance between her and Michael.
"Don't come near me!"
Michael remembered what happened before. Evelin had bitten him. It seemed his plan to snap her out of her bloodthirst had worked, else Kasumi would have killed Evelin. But Evelin instead suffered from mental scars now. He had to calm her down.
"Don't worry. Nothing can happen."
He knocked against the iron bars seperating him from Evelin.
"You can't get to me through this. What happened while I was out?"
It was convincing enough for her. She hid her face and cowered in the corner.
"Kasumi betrayed us."
Michael couldn't believe his ears. He laughed it off.
"You jest."
But now she looked at him with stern eyes.
"No! Or do you see her here looked up with us? When we escaped the mansion she said, she would distract the enemy. But soon after she left I was surrounded by them. Foxes like her. I tried to protect you, but..."
The remaining words were drowned in tears. Michael felt bad for her. Not only that, but guilty too. If he hadn't rejected Evelin that evening, the whole dilemma with her rampage wouldn't have happened. Evelin would have been at full fighting strength and together with Kasumi the escape might had succeeded. That is, if she really hasn't gone rogue.
"We will get out of here and find out."
"I doubt the first part."
Startled Michael looked towards the source of the voice, finding a beautiful fox girl. Belonging to the same race as Kasumi, they shared most traits, but unlike Kasumi, this one had eight tails and black stripes in her fur. Her hair, which was colored similarily to her fur, was long and strands of hair covered a bit of her left eye.
"Who are you?"
"My, my. No manners. My name is Kimora."
Her eyes scanned Michael like a hunter its prey and with a malicious smile, she kneeled down right infront of the iron bars. A wave with her hand and Michael was dragged over the ground right infront of her, bringing his face close to hers.
"Quite a handsome man, my little sister found."
Holding his face, it felt like her eyes stared right into his soul. He felt how his mind was being invaded. She saw it. Everything. And afterwards she burst out into laughter.
"She is quite a good actor, isn't she?"
"What are you talking about?"
She put on a suprised look.
"My, my. The elf already told you."
Finally she let go of his face and stood up again. Michael backed off a bit, glarring at her.
"About a month ago I sent out my little sister, with one objective: To find the anomaly, that appeared on the island. Something fused with an elemental. The power that is set free by that can be felt by anyone on the island that has a little talent with magic. But Seria told you about catalyst and all that already. You are a vessel for the elemental. Concentrated energy. And far easier to absorb than an elemental. Do you know what happens, when you try to absorb or seperate an elemental without a vessel? Take a look at the wastelands that Victoria calls home. That's what happens."
She turned around, spreading her arms in joy.
"You are something worth shedding blood for. Whatever magic user gets her hands on you, will become incredibly powerful. And you are mine!"
"Where is Kasumi! I want to see her!"
She looked at him over her shoulder.
"Maybe you will, if my little sister feels like it. But not at the moment."
Suddendly she turned around and looked at him in excitement. Michael didn't expect the next question.
"Say, Michael, between me and my sister. Who would you rather choose?"
What? Was that really the time to ask such a question. Even Evelin looked suprised at the fox, who was wagging her tail in anticipation. Michael didn't need to think long before he answered.
"Kasumi."
"Eventhough she betrayed you?"
"Even then."
Now it was Michael, Evelin stared at in suprise. Kimora let out a sigh.
"You disappoint me. And men that disappointed me have never lived long."
She averted her eyes and walked towards the entrance.
"Tomorrow I will absorb your soul. You will die and your power will become mine. Prepare yourself for that."
Without looking back she exited the building.

Outside Kasumi was waiting, her head lowered. Silently she followed her older sister through the village, heading for the great colorful temple. Most of the buildings were made of wood, safe for the prison, and like the mountain abbey merchants and craftsmen were busy along the main road.
"He misses you."
She didn't have to tell her. Kasumi heard the whole conversation between his sister an Michael.
"Don't worry. I will let you stand next to me, when I rip out his soul. You can hold hands if you want."
"Stop it..."
"You won't abandon your lover in his final moments, won't you?"
Kasumi didn't reply. Her sister loved playing with the minds of others. And she would get furious if she didn't get what she wanted.
"Kasumi. I really hope, you don't plan on betraying me again."
There it was again. The threatening tone in her voice, which Kasumi knew all to well. Kimora turned around and grabbed her tail.
"If you betray me, or see him without my permission, I will make a five-tail out of you! Do you understand?!"
Her whole confidence was being crushed by her sister. She was menacing and Kasumi would rather face a dragon instead of her.
"Yes..."

Chapter 24:
I wonder when she became like that, or if she has always been like this. Back when we were children, I was often with our mother, while Kimora was studying with our aunt. After all, Kimora had to take over mothers position one day. That way I had her most of the time for myself. Our mother, Akane, was a ninetails, the high priestess of our clan and therefore powerful. But she was also gentle. She hated fighting and tried to solve conflicts without violence. Though sometimes she could be scary, too. I saw her once paralyzing a mob, who was about to attack each other and then threaten them to stop fighting. They immediately obeyed. But when work didn't take her time, we spend most of it lying on the grass, enjoying the sunny days. She would often let me chase her tails or play with her hair braid, which she had casually lain over her shoulder. She always reminded me to take good care of my sister and that I should support her in her difficult task. But neither me nor my mother could guess back then, what would become of her.
The peaceful days ended, when war was about to break out. The queen of the dragons startet an invasion to claim the island as hers. Soon two faction were formed. The black scaled dragons who invaded every corner of the island and the resistance, composed of dragon knights and dragon slayers. Sooner or later our town would have to choose a side. The first who approached us was the resistance. A man with a greatsword on his back and a wyvern as his companion asked us for support. But mother declined their request, explaining that she wanted to stay neutral in this. The man explained that soon the dragons would reach out to her and they wouldn't accept a no. He offered them shelter urging her to at least evacuate the town. But she refused. Disappointed, but without further discussion he left. I quietly accepted mothers decision but Kimora rebelled. She urged her to reconsider the proposal, but mother told her that she had a bad feeling about joining either side.
"Just a feeling in your stomach? That's what you base your decision on?"
Mother just giggled, embraced her and told her that soon she will understand. She continued that she would always value the lifes of her children and people more than waging war.
Soon the dragons appeared. One to be precise. Her name was Fafnir and similar to the man from the resistance she ordered us to support the dragon queen. My mother told her the same thing she told the resistance, but the dragon laughed at her.
"I can't allow a ninetails to be alive and possibly rebel against our queen!"
A fight between the two broke out. Mother was brave. Even when Fafnir assumed her true form she didn't falter and continued to defend her home. Without thinking I called out to her, trying to cheer her on. But Fafnir also noticed me calling her mother and shoot a stream of fire at me and Kimora. We could feel the heat for a moment but quickly a cooling wind touched our faces. Mother was there, embracing us. She kept the flames from reaching us.
"Don't forget what I told you, Kasumi. And Kimora: you will become a fine ninetails someday. You are strong enough. With you, our village will survive this crisis."
She let go of us, turning towards Fafnir. Then we could see it. Her entire back was charred black from the fire, some of her tails still burning. She saved us, but payed a terrible price for it. And yet there she stood, still determined to defeat the dragon. She accumulated all power she had left and paralyzed the dragon midair, causing it to crash to the ground. The dragon shaked his head in confusion and shot a stream of fire at our mother, while Akane fired her own blue flames at her.
"You will not hurt my children!"
I once heard someone from our village say "nothing is scarier than a mother determined to protect her children". And it seemed true, within the blink of an eye, the dragon was engulfed in blue flames, winding and screaming on the ground, until it finally stopped moving. Our mother turned to us smiling and we ran towards her happily laughing, when shortly before reaching her, her body collapsed to our feet. Our aunt tried to help her, but mother had already died.

And with that Kimora was the next leader of our clan. We abandoned our home and looked for a new one. We didn't have trouble with dragons anymore and the war went past us. Soon we heard that the resistance had won, but at terrible price. According to the rumors, dragon slayers used a powerful spell to defeat the dragons, but sacrificed many lifes, even those of their comrades, to fuel it. That's what mother wanted to avoid. She protected us with her decision, though died as consequence. But Kimora didn't want to hear all that. When mother was buried she muttered about vengeance and becoming even stronger than her. I offered her my assistance as mother told me, but she became furious, telling me it was my fault and that she wouldn't be as soft to me as mother was. I felt guilty. In a way she was right. But nonetheless I never wanted mother to die. Her treatment of me got worse over time. It was as if I was only there so she could vent out her anger at me.
A few centuries after the event though she summoned me for a special task. We were both adults now, but I tried to stay out of her affairs as much as possible.
"I need you to find me something."
And so she sent me out to find the anomaly. I thought she just didn't want to see me for a while. I took my time and traveled around exploring the island. I expected to find many things but I didn't expect to find a human male. I watched him fighting his way through the days, often facing dangerous creatures. It was interesting to see him struggle against all odds. It reminded me how mother faced Fafnir. One day though, he fell into a trap and though I had chosen not to interfere in his matters, I did this time. Just for a second I let them feel my pressence. It was a pack of werewolves, but I knew I was stronger than them. It scared them away. He was safe. After watching him for quite some time I grew attached to him. He was lonely out there and I was pretty lonely myself. For some reason I didn't want him to die. For some other reason I didn't want my sister to get her hands on him, since then, I was sure, he would die. I would keep him away from her. I didn't know how long I would be able to, but I wouldn't give him to her.

And now the thing I wanted to avoid the most had happened. Michael was captured and it was my fault. I have to do something. And I need Evelins help...

Chapter 25
It was save to assume that she couldn't free Michael alone. If she got near him, Kimora would kill her. The second problem were Kimora's followers. She was powerful and certainly a capable leader. Her brutal methods though either found agreement among those that thought like her or scared the ones who disagreed. Noone dared to stand up to her. And the third problem was in case they succeeded. What then? Even if she could escape with Michael and Evelin, Kimora would chase them across the island. And she couldn't kill her sister. But time was short. Firstly she had to contact him somehow. She entered a house, where a lone woman was standing in a kitchen corner.
"Hi, aunty."
The fox woman, who was preparing food on a tablet, looked up from her work. She was visibly much older than Kasumi, already having silverish fur. As soon as she spottet Kasumi, she had a gentle smile on her face.
"Kasumi! What brings you here, my dear?"
She was the one who taught Kimora most of her life. She new how she was and especially how abusive she was towards her. But in her situation she couldn't oppose Kimora, else her sister would lash out at her, too. And Kasumi wouldn't want that. She was preparing the meal for Michael. Since Evelin was a vampire, she didn't really need food.
"Is it about the human?"
Her aunt knew her well. She was old and wise. Sometimes Kasumi wondered, why she didn't become the high priestess of their clan. But Kimora wouldn't let her. She wanted that position for herself.
Kasumi nodded to her aunts suspicion.
"He's well for now. I take it you already know, what your sister plans to do?"
"I would rather not know it. Else it wouldn't push me to do this."
Kasumi handed her aunt a small piece of paper.
"That and... could you arrange a visit between me and them? I doubt Kimora would listen to me..."
Her aunts expression became troubled.
"I can deliver the message secretly. But that... you know your sister. She wouldn't let you see the human. Else her play would be busted."
"I know... but I need to meet them, even if it's just the elf. After what she told them, she wants Michael to believe I betrayed them. I doubt she would care about Evelin though."
She hesitated a moment. But in the end she agreed.
"I fear for your life, Kasumi. I hope you know what you are doing."
Kasumi hugged her aunt tightly, thanking her.
"Why couldn't your sister turn out more like you."
"I still hope for her to come to her senses one day."

Kasumi had all reasons to assume that it was Michael, Kimora wanted to break, even more after he declared his loyalty towards her little sister. Kasumi bet she was furious after that conversation. Kimora had boyfriends before, but none of them stayed with her for long. They were scared of her and tried to flee, but she would capture and torture them, until they eventually died. Kasumi remembered one of them begging her to kill him. She couldn't do it and he died a few days later. She didn't want to imagine Michael in this situation. Later that day, a messenger from Kimora arrived, telling her to fetch something for her sister. It was no doubt to keep her away from the prison, as they took Michael somewhere else. After she was finished with the messengers business, she told her that she can now visit the prison, if she wanted. Kasumi's worries were with Michael. "Please stay strong", she thought. Two of them stood guard infront of the prison. Inside, as expected, she found only Evelin, sitting in the corner. As soon as the vampire noticed the fox, she glared at her with her.
"I want inside the cell."
"Are you sure about that? She doesn't look to friendly."
The guards laughed at Kasumi's request. But Kasumi persisted and they let her inside.
"Evelin...I-"
But she didn't let Kasumi speak.
"Traitor!", she shouted at her.
Evelin jumped on her feet preparing to attack Kasumi any moment.
"From the moment I first saw you, I knew you were up to no good! I only tolerated it, since Michael wanted you to stay."
"I didn't want this! No matter what she told you, she is lying! I wanted to keep you away from her!"
"Then good job on that! Michael is being tortured and I'm sitting her, powerless, unable to help him! If you really wanted to keep him safe, why didn't you say what was going on?!"
"And what should I have told him? 'Hi, my sister wants to kill you. Please run away with me.'?"
Her voice became more and more unstable as tears left streams on Evelin's cheeks.
"You knew all along, what was going on and never bothered to tell us. We could have prepared!"
Closing the gap between her and Kasumi, Evelin grabbed Kasumi's throat, who, being physically much weaker, tried to struggle herself free. Now the guards were on alert, trying to quickly unlock the door and help Kasumi.
"Nothing could have prepared you for-"
Cutting of her words, as Kasumi gasped for air, Evelin's fangs sank into her neck. Her struggling became weaker, as the paralyzing effect of the bite took over. The door flung open and the guards rushed to her help, forcibly seperating the two. Evelin was thrown back into the corner, as one of them pulled Kasumi out of the cell. She didn't lose much blood, so she was able to stand again quickly, although she was still dizzy. Exchanging glances one more time, Kasumi left the prison, leaving Evelin to herself.
After leaving the prison behind her, Kasumi stumbled a few steps.
"You drank to much, you idiot...."

Inside the cell Evelin sat quietly on the ground. The guards were outside chatting about the ceremony tomorrow. In her hands she held a piece of paper, with Kasumi's message on it.
"I know what you are thinking. But time is short. I need your help to get Michael out of here. I will try to visit you as soon as I can. I can provide you with my blood. It should help you dealing with the guards. When the sun is about to set tomorrow, you have to break out. Your weapon is in the same building. We will meet after that."
Though confused by the recent events, rescuing Michael was as much in her interest than Kasumi's it seemed. Crumbling up the paper in her hand her red irises pierced the dark, as the sun was about to set.
She would follow Kasumi's plan.

Final Chapter 26
The sun dawned on the day of the ceremony. Kasumi slowly awoke from her slumber and was instantly greeted with a sting in her neck. She could still feel the bite from Evelin.
"Guess she really was angry..."
She didn't sleep well. Today might as well be her last day if everything went wrong. But she had no time to worry about that now. Everything was already in motion.
She had her own small shed in the village. She wanted to stay as far away as possible from Kimora. And the last thing she needed, was Kimora dragging her out of her bed by her ears in a fit at midnight. Outside most were busy preparing for the ceremony. A wooden pedestial was errected at the villages center. Everyone would gather here at night to watch Kimora commit murder. And sadly most of them would celebrate her for it. After all she will become the mighty ninetails, that will restore our former glory and destroy the dragon threat. Nonesense. They never had any glory to begin with. All mother wanted was a peaceful life for us. And dragons weren't a problem after the war. The normal ones were a rare sight and the black scales cowered in their holes in fear of being hunted again. Mothers death clouded her mind with rage and she wanted to justify her actions with that.
She fetched some food from a booth and continued planning. It was a rather sweet tasting soup with chicken. Since it was quite cool up here it was the right thing to warm her up. There were still some unclarities. Getting to Michael while everyone was gathered there was risky. She would have to rely on Evelin's brute strength to clear a path. After drinking her blood she should have recovered a bit. She will probably drain the guards, too, which should give her enough fighting power. But Evelin won't be able to fight everyone. They had to go in quick and get out of there even quicker. As soon as they were surrounded, it would be over.
"KasumI!"
Her sisters voice startled her. She didn't expect her to show up.
"Today is the great day! Aren't you glad?"
Kasumi shot her a look of disgust.
"I've only come to ask you, if you want to stand beside me tonight? It will be the last time you will be able to talk to him."
It was her way of provoking Kasumi. But she already knew that too well.
"Thanks to you he probably doesn't want to see me anyway. No thanks..."
"Oh you are wrong. He really wants to see you. Even when I burned his back, he kept calling for you. He stubbornly refuses to become mine."
The bowl cracked in Kasumi's hands. She nearly attacked at her sister. But if she did that now, she would be in no fighting condition tonight. What has she done to him?
Kasumi got up and walked away.
"Whatever you are scheming, it will fail. I won't let you get in my way."
Kasumi stopped for a moment. Her sister was perceptive. But Kasumi thought the same. She won't let Kimora kill Michael. Silently she moved on.

And thus dusk arrived. It was the time for Evelin to act. She stood up and walked to the door of her cell. The iron bars were to narrow, so bending them open was out of the question, plus it would require more strength than she had. But an arm would fit between them. Evelin started banging on her cell door. It didn't take long until one of them came inside. "Careless" she thought. She continued to hammer against her door.
"Hey! Stop that!"
But she quietly continued to hit the door, looking at the guard. The guard grew impatient. She tried to grab Evelins throat. She was waiting for that.
"I said sto-!"
Evelin turned quickly and grabbed her arm, pulling her against the bars, before sinking her fangs into it. Before passing out the fox threw a fireball at Evelin, but she casually blocked it with her shoulder. The burns healed quickly thanks to the blood. Evelin was lucky. It was the one carrying the key. She quickly grabbed it and unlocked the door. The second guard was about to come in and was hit by the door, which was forcefully kicked open by Evelin. After draining the second guard she searched the lockers and quickly found her Katana. Outside, she could see in some distance the illuminated spot, where the ceremony was held. The sun was just setting. There was still time.
"Good thing you got out."
Kasumi rushed towards Evelin.
"I was prepared to help you, but I had my own little problems to worry about."
"You got rid of them?"
"They won't wake up till tomorrow."
Both of them looked towards the lit up part of the village.
"Why now. All of them are there now. We are just the two of us. How exactly do you want to get Michael out of there?"
"It's a gamble. Not all support my sister. Most of her supporters are the younger ones. The majority definitely is on her side, but if I can somehow convince them to help us our chances of getting away are far better."
"They won't throw away their safety for us. If they oppose her, she will kill them."
"That's why it's a gamble."
Evelin sighed.
"And afterwards? Where do you want to flee to? She followed you across the island.
"I was thinking about going to your abbey. There are many skilled soldiers there, Seria and her knight included."
"That's a one day trip on foot, without breaks! We will never make it there in one piece!"
"That's why I was planning on going through every major city on the way."
"You have seen what she did at Sylvia's estate. That won't stop her!"
"But it will slow her down. Every city has travelers and capable fighters among them. If she starts a fight there, those will intervene, which should give us time to escape."
"Which also didn't work back at Sylvia's estate..."
"It will be the two of us fighting this time. We won't seperate. If my sister shows up, we will both be able to fight her. Please trust me! It's the only way I can think of!"
Evelin had her doubts, but on the other hand she couldn't come up with a better plan. The abbey was heavily guarded, maybe even better than Sylvia's place. There were a lot of different fighters there compared to just vampires. And Harrison and Charlotte.
"Let's get to work. Time is running out."

The last sunlight was vanishing behind the mountains. His eyes were still adjusting to the light of the torches beside him. A big crowd was infront of him. He was on some kind of platform. Someone was standing beside him. It was Kasumi's sister. Right. He remembers. He is about to be absorbed by her. The pain since yesterday almost made him forget, why he was captured in the first place. Kimora stepped forward to talk to the crowd. His arms and legs were bound. He couldn't move.
"My dear people! Ever since my honorable mother was killed at the hands of a dragon, we were but a shadow of ourselves! We struggled to survive and without a high priestess, the most powerful ninetails, we were essentially without a head. Still we made it this far and tonight, we will regain our former glory. Tonight, a high priestess will rise a gain. With the help of this human, I will ascend to a ninetails and I will restore our clan to it's greatness. I will join the hunt for dragons and avenge my mother!"
What happened next was almost to fast for Michael to comprehend. A shadow rushed through the crowd, pushing aside the foxes gathered there. Some of them reacted fast and tried to hit it with spirit fire but someone shielded her. Before he knew it, he saw Evelin jumping on the platform. Kimora recieved a powerful kick and was thrown off the platform. Michael was freed from his binds.
"Can you walk?"
"I think so."
"Good. Hold on to me."
Michael did as he was told and Evelin leaped off the platform, passing most of the crowd.
Meanwhile Kimora recovered. Angrily she shouted at the guards to stop them.
"This is not what mother would have wanted!"
Kimora glared at her little sister, who was standing behind the crowd. Evelin and Michael were by her side now.
"You little rat! What are you up to?! You won't leave here alive!"
"We were never Warmongers! Mother always looked for peaceful solutions. Yet here you stand, trying to kill a human to obtain power for yourself, declaring you will go to war against dragons. You all knew the previous high priestess would have never done that."
Looking at their faces, some indeed showed doubt, while others looked at her in fury. It was like Kasumi had predicted.
"I knew it. I should have locked you up with them!"
"Yet because of your own sadistic play you didn't want me to be together with them. That was your own fault. You could've killed me plenty of times. But thinking of mother you weren't able to."
Now she snapped. Kimora shot a fire orb at Kasumi and many of her followers did the same.
"Watch out!"
They prepared to dodge, but a shockwave protected them from the projectiles. Another woman stepped beside Kasumi, who looked at her in suprise.
"Aunty!"
"I should have done this sooner."
To Kasumi it sounded like an apology. One she didn't need to make. After all Kasumi never accused her of anything. But tonight, the timing seemed right.
"Where do you want to lead us to, Kimora? I thought you were ready to follow your mothers footsteps. But it seemed I failed you at some point. I can't accept what you are trying to do. And noone here, who still has a bit of respect for Akane should!"
It was the push they needed. Her aunt had far more influence on them than she did. A few of them went over to Kasumi's and her aunt's side. Still they were hopelessly outnumbered and Kimora was furious.
"Run, Kasumi. We will buy you time."
"But..."
"Go! Now! I will be fine. I trained Kimora, so I know her tricks.", she confidently explained.
But it was the sheer number of enemies Kasumi was worried about. She heard an angry shout from Kimora and the fight broke out. Blue flames flashed everywhere.
"Run!"
The three of them headed for the towns exit. But the fighting noise seemed to grew closer still. Evelin was the first to notice they were being chased. She turned on her heel to face their persecutors.
"Evelin! What are you doing?"
"I will deal with these and then catch up with you. Don't worry. This time I'm at my peak!"
Though Kasumi had a bad feeling, she kept running along with Michael. He looked weak but he had good condition. As soon as they were out of town, they would rest for a bit. The village gate came into sight. Just a bit more until they were out. But Michael suddendly threw himself against her. Both fell to the ground and a blue flame shot across above them. The attack was meant for Kasumi. Michael got up and helped Kasumi on her feet.
Kimora was approaching them. Blue flames surrounded her and she had visible battle marks on her skin and clothes.
"We have to run. You can't fight her here! Get infront of me!"
He pulled Kasumi arm, placing him between her and her sister, shielding her from further attacks.
"She doesn't want to kill me. At least not this way."
Kasumi admired his quick thinking and kept going for the gates.

"So you want to play like this, huh? Then so be it."
A fire orb hit Michaels back, throwing him infront of Kasumi, followed by a second one that hit her. The fire burned her back and the pain almost made her faint.
"See. This is how our mother felt, when she had to protect us because of your foolishness. The ceremony is a failure, thanks to you. But as long as I get the human, all is according to plan."
Kasumi watched her sister closing in to Michael. She crawled over to him, in a last desperate effort to protect him. It was futile. Where was Evelin? Did she encounter more enemies? Someone had to save him! Just then, her sister froze in place. Behind her, she could make out a small figure.
"Please don't move. I don't want blood on my clothes.."

Meanwhile Kasumi reached Michael, who was in even worse shape than her. His breath was weak and fast.
"Michael? Michael!"
"Kasu...mi.."
"What are you doing! Who are you?! Let me go! I need to absorb him before he dies!"
"I have orders to prevent exactly that."
The mantis girl kicked her legs to make Kimora fall to her knees, her blades now aiming at her throat instead of the back.
She didn't want to believe it. Kasumi didn't want Michael to die here. She did all she could so he wouldn't end up like that.
"I will get you out of here. We will patch you up! You are not going to leave me alone here! Michael! Michael!"
His eyes lost focus.
"Too...late..."
Kasumi could feel his heartbeat grow weaker. With his last bit of strength he grabbed Kasumi's shoulder.
"Not...her! Take...it....
"What?"
With tears in her eyes, she couldn't believe what she heard.
"Scared...of...dying...Don't....want her...to have...it. Take it...Now!"
His arm lost it's hold of her and fell to the ground.
"You can't ask that of me! You hear?! Not...me..."
His body went limp, but Kasumi knew he was still with her. She didn't have much time to think. She brought her face close to his and...
"You are still owing me this one."
It was her first kiss with Michael. And her last. With her left hand, she pierced his body, ignoring the angry shouts of her sister. She pulled out a ghostly silluette of Michael, which soon transformed into a white and red flickering flame in her hand. She held onto it for a moment, before pushing it inside her chest. A sudden wave of power surged through her. She was surrounded by a bright light and even the mantis, who was expressionless till now couldn't take her eyes of the spectacle. When the light faded, Kasumi stood there, her wounds healed. Additionally she now had three more tails, making her a ninetails. Kimora couldn't believe it. She lost. Unfortunately though, someone else witnessed Kasumi's transformation. Evelin, who finally got rid of her attackers. Shocked, her eyes were fixed at Kasumi and Michael's lifeless body.
"You... killed him..."
Kasumi understood enough to know how the scene must have looked to her. Evelin charged at her before she could say anything, her blade drawn. Before she could reach her though, something crashed down from the sky seperating the two. It was a black scaled dragon, towering two head above her. But Evelin was furious.
"Get out of my way!"
Instead of answering Evelin, the dragon unleashed a shattering roar, stopping Evelin in her tracks. Everyone in the village must have heard it and the fox tribe, which had bad experiences with dragons already, was probably scared to their bones after hearing that. Kimora and Kasumi both starred at her in fear, when another voice talked to Kasumi.
[color=blue]"You should run now. If she's angry enough to shout at Alice, she definitely won't listen to what you have to say."[color]
A human was sitting on the roof of a nearby house. He was right. Kasumi ran through the gates, while the dragon held Evelin back. She had the same eyes, back when Kasumi visited her in her cell. Without looking back Kasumi disappeared into the dark.

"Why did you stop me?!"
Evelin lashed out at him, which seemingly provoked the dragon.
"Careful, lady! I have a dragon and I will use it!"
"Let me go after her! She killed him! I..
"Shouldn't you be worrying about him first?"
The man pointed at Michael's corpse.
"Why.. it's too late now..."
"Ah don't say that. Let me share a little secret with you."
He hopped to her side and whispered into her ears.
"I was killed, too! And now look at me. Alive and kicking."
"What? Are you making a fool out of me?! Wait... are you Victoria's knight?"
Evelin remembered the conversation they had about the nobles. Victoria was a wraith according to Kasumi, who tended to have undead knights at her side, which she revived herself.
"I wouldn't dare... and yes. Take his body home. Seria will know what to do. And we are packing, too. Clair, leave that sad puppy to itself. The rest of this doesn't concern us."
The mantis girl retracted her blades. Evelin picked up Michael's body and together they left the village, which slowly sank into chaos.

Epilogue 1
Before they reached the abbey, Roy and his companions went their own way. Evelin didn't have a chance to ask him further about the reviving process. But at least, she was finally home again. She barely approached the abbey gates, when she saw guards rushing towards her, before she fell on her knees. She tried to resist her fatigue but just a moment later she fell flat on the ground, her head on Michael's chest. She wasn't just tired. Back in the cell she felt the same. A feeling, as if all strength left her body. It was gone, after she had drunk Kasumi's blood, but now after all the fighting and the walk back, it was there again.
Sbe awoke in her chamber, greeted by a worried Seria.
"Evelin! How are you feeling my dear?"
She had the faint taste of Iron in her mouth. Someone fed her..blood?
"Tired... A lot has happened.... Michael... I failed."
"Easy, Evelin. I've seen it. His soul got torn out... have you seen who did it?"
The scene of Kasumi came back into her mind, filling her with rage again.
"She...Kasumi killed him.. she absorbed his soul and fled, abandoning me and her sister."
After hearing those words Seria took a deep breath.
"I warned that boy... I told him not to trust her. Now my fears came true... We have to find her."
"I will do it."
"I thought about sending Harrison. Kasumi is a ninetails now, we can't underestimate her."
Evelin jumped out of her bed, grabbing Seria.
"No! This is between me and her! Noone will be sent after her but me!"
Seria was visibly suprised at Evelin's sudden outburst. After she'd settled down again, Seria quickly tried to change the topic.
"Fine. But I want you to meet someone. He will accompany you."
"I don't need anyone to tag along."
"You won't be able to say no after hearing him out. Hagen! Come in."
If Evelin hasn't already been pale as a vampire, she would have been now. Hagen was the name of her brother, whom she lost long ago. Sylvia's knight mentioned the possibility of his survival, but she hadn't expected Seria to find him. Or maybe it wasn't him. It had to be coincidence. Her confusion grew only bigger, when she saw Sylvia's knight, Oswald, step through the door.
"I will leave you two alone."
Oswald took Seria's place next to Evelin's bed, while the latter hurried out of the room.
"It's been a while."
She could do nothing but stare at him with big eyes.
"This is not possible...."
"It is. I will let this speak for me."
Hagen handed her his necklace. Still shocked she stared at the picture inside.
"Mother, father. This..."
"The only memory I have of my family. Sylvia was the one, who told me that you were my sister., when I saw you at a meeting. You didn't pay me any attention back then, so I doubt you remember."
He paused for a bit. Evelin looked at him again, as if scanning his features. He had changed to much for her to remember him. He surely didn't recognize her aswell when he saw her for the first time.
"After I was abducted, I was sold as a blood slave. Luckily for me, it was Sylvia who bought me and instead of treating my like a slave, she made me her knight, giving me a new name... and transforming me. I didn't believe her when she said, yo were my sister. But it was enough for me to get interested in you. And at the ball, for the first time I had the chance to talk to you."
Now she couldn't hold back her emotions anymore. Tears running down her face she hugged Hagen, crying out of joy.
"I wish I could have told you sooner. But not only did part of me doubt that it was truly you, my responsibilities as her knight always kept me busy. But when I talked to you at the ball, I became certain that infront of me was standing my sister."
"What happened after we left? Why are you here now? Seria said that you would accompany me."
"We fought them. But soon they retreated. Afterwards we tried to reestablish order, when a message reached me. Sylvia was murdered. I was devastated, after all she was like a mother to me. I didn't know what to do next, when I remembered you. I handed command over and traveled here."
Hagen stood up.
"I'm sorry. I guess this was a bit too much at once. I will let you rest now."
"Don't worry. It's been the first good news I heard in a while."
They exchanged a smile before he headed for the door.
"I'm glad to have you back."
Hagen stopped for a moment, looking over his shoulder.
"Me too."

Epilogue 2
"You Idiot!"
A few days after the events at the kitsune village, Roy arrived home. And these were the first words Victoria greeted him with. Alice and Clair were waiting outside, but given the volume of her voice, they probably could hear every bit of Victoria's scolding.
"You were supposed to save him! Not let her absorb him!"
"But it was already too late. He was already dying when we arrived. So... before Kimora could absorb him, I thought he would be better off with Kasumi."
Victoria turned towards him, walking up to Roy and grabbing his collar.
"You know why he was dying?! Because you were fricking late!! You weren't supposed to look for that wyvern! Plus you wasted a day because your companion needed to rest!"
"But we discovered that Sylvia was in with the dragon hunters..."
"Which was not your objective!! Look! I have a certain timing for things. And it would perfectly work, if for once you would do what I ask you too!!"
Victoria was visibly tired after her rant. She leaned against the wall behind Roy, holding her head.
"Now we are stuck with an instable ninetails and dragon hunters... Can you even imagine what she could do now? Her mother fought a dragon in her true form! And her mind at the moment is as focused as yours..."
With her back to him she waved him out.
"Go... I get a headache from seeing you...."

Outside his two companions were waiting.
"And?"
He turned towards the mantis smiling.
"Complete success!"
"Last time she shouted like that you came through the door flying."
"At least I was spared that. Humans are not meant to fly, doesn't matter how often she tries to make me."
"New orders?"
"None at the moment. We take a day off and then head out again. Surely there are things to do. If not, we might enjoy ourselves a bit."
Victoria lived in an old castle ruin. Most of the quarters were underground with Victoria's chamber in the castle tower. The three of them had to walk through the partly destroyed courtyard to reach the quarters. It was already nighttime and most of the light came from the stars and full moon. Inside his chamber Roy fell onto his bed, arms spread.
"I kinda messed up somewhere, didn't I?"
He recalled the scenes at the kitsune village.
"Those two probably aren't friends anymore."
He witnessed the scene, were Michael was hit fataly. If he had been there sooner, he could have saved him. But it was too late. The only way he could have done it, was if he had abandoned Charlotte.
"So or so, one had to grief... though Victoria would have prefered to have the weapon of mass destruction secured and not inside an now emotionally unstable fox..."
The door to his chamber opened. A massive figure blocked the light from the hallway while walking through it. It was Alice. Wordlessly she walked up to his bed, the wooden floor creaking under her weight with every step she took. It was an annoying sound, Roy thought. But she couldn't help it. He could hear that she tried to make as little noise as possible. Arriving at his bed she snuggled herself under the sheet, uncovering him in the process because of her size. Sheet aswell as bed were way to small for her, so her legs nearly up to her knees dangled midair off the edge of the bed. Because the sheet was only made for one person or at best two smaller persons, it now mostly covered only Alice.
"Just because I'm dead, doesn't mean I'm not freezing."
In response she spread one of her wings over him, which he grabbed like a blanket. Simultaneously he felt one of her clawed hands grabbing him and pulling him closer to her.
"You did the right thing."
"Maybe, maybe not. Still a lot to fix though. Especially the elf. I'll have to avoid the abbey or she's going to ask me how to revive him."
"Is there a way to?"
"None that I know of. What Victoria does is more binding a soul to herself. Doubt they would want that procedure for him."
"We could look for a way. Maybe it will help you, too."
He couldn't share her optimism. Roy turned around to face her.
"Help? There is no hel-...hmpf!"
Alice shut his mouth with a kiss, her tail swaying over the edge of the bed.
"Get some rest. We will think about it tomorrow."
Her eyes glowed captivating in the dark. She might be a big klutz sometimes, but she was the exact support he needed.
"Right..."

======================
Well, this is it, I guess. Never thought I would see it through xD usually I stop in the middle of it because I lose interest. But this is the end of Michael's story.
